Right then... Eyes narrowed, F'al advanced on the lanky beast before him. "It's going to be a little different this time. Stand. Still."

"Of course, Mine, anything for you!" Dith's eyes spun brilliant green, and he stood up as tall as he could. "Standing perfectly still, just as you asked."

He was five foot five. Dith's shoulders were now a good way out of his reach. F'al let out a long slow breath and lowered the straps. "Dith. You are not helping. I want to practice putting a harness on you so that we will be ready for our manned flight lessons. I also want to be sure that I am now making straps correctly. This is important, so please stop being juvenile."

Dith just gave a rumble of amusement and batted his rider prone with a casual swipe of one wing. "Relax," he instructed the sprawled and thoroughly displeased blond, "we've got ages yet. You need to lighten up, Mine, and put up with me having a bit of fun before I submit to your obsessive preparations."

"I am not obsessive," F'al replied, sitting up and treating his dragon to an icy glare, "and you are impossible."

"Na," Dith grinned and pushed him over again, this time gently but firmly holding him down with one forepaw, "just highly improbable."

Lovely; and now he was stuck. Unable to do anything else, F'al continued to glare. "I hate you."

Ah, that feels so good! Thank you, Mine, I feel so much better! Freshly oiled, the young dragon shook like a wet dog, extending her wings as far as their quarters would allow before folding them all up. Are we done with chores today? I think Dorath's said our lesson was finished. Oh, can we go out? I'd like to go out. Let's go out!

Wagging her tail side-to-side, Kanaleth almost took out her rider as she shuffled about, trying to turn.

"Kanaleth!" Andere barked, quickly scattering back. Pushing her reddish hair from her face, she scowled. "Settle down. I have to clean the oil off my hands, but we can go down to the feeding pens or to the bowl after." It was not so much a question as it was directions; over the past six months, the seacrafter had quickly learned that Kanaleth was too smart to simply ask 'alright?'. Because, no, it was not alright, and the gold went ahead and did as she pleased. They were going to have to curb that.

Unfortunately, her methods were failing more quickly than she thought.

That's quite alright, Mine, dear. I'll go see who is at the bowl, take your time! the Queen was chirping, wriggling her haunches before setting off, all on her own.

"Kanaleth!" her rider exclaimed, scandalized for the second time.

Don't worry, my dear! I'm independent! The youngest Queen arrived at the bowl shortly, settling to glance around before spotting a brown dragon playing with his rider. Oh, how wonderful! While Kanaleth didn't recognize either beast or boy, the Golden Retriever gold had every intention of introducing herself. They looked like they were having so much fun!

Hello! I hope I'm not bothering you? What are you doing? It looks very fun. Approaching steadily, Kanaleth trilled to the handsome brown. Oh! I almost forgot, how rude of me! I am Kanaleth! How are you, this fine day?

Ah-ha; company! Turning his head, Dith called a cheerful greeting to the slightly younger dragon. "Nice to meet you Kanaleth; I'm Dith, one of the three Ghenzan dragons who've transferred here. This," he nodded his head at the still pinned and still peeved blond on the ground, "is my rider F'al. As to what I'm doing, I'm teasing him, because he's hilarious when he's cross."

"You're a brute Dith," F'al grumbled, trying and failing to wriggle free, "a horrible, horrible brute; my life was so much easier before you became a factor in it." This was actually true; Dith forced him to interact with people, and did things like this to him... Oh. Oh no. That large, smirking brown face was coming very, very close to him; he knew what that meant.

"He's horrible to me," Dith smirked at Kanaleth and gave his rider's face a really good lick, "but I love him anyway. What're you doing down here then? Just relaxing? It's amazing how much free time we get here, isn't it?" Egh, dur, it would seem perfectly normal to her. Still, no matter, he wasn't too worried by making a fool of himself.

Ghenzan? What's a Ghenzan dragon? Kanaleth inquired, setting her haunches down to watch the silly pair of boys. She never played like that with Hers! Wondering idly if Andere would like to play rough like that (after all, she was always insisting she was tough as any boy), the Queen dismissed the idea when she realized the brown was still chatting. It was rude to inquire after him, and then not listen to what he had to say! Sitting more attentively, her eyes swirled a bright blue as she listened to Dith carry on.

Horrible to you? Oh, my. I can have Mine say something to him, if you would like! She is a very good Mine, even if she forgets to talk sometimes. She works very, very hard. Kanaleth took a moment to check on the rider in question, snorting softly as she realized Andere was bustling about, trying to put a fresh shirt before hurrying after her nosy dragon. Nosy! Honestly, she was just being friendly.

Oh, free time? Do you get a lot? Dorath's makes sure me and Mine always have much to do. We don't get out to socialize very much, just a bit. Mine says its good to know the crew. Speaking of Mine, here she comes! She takes a while, sometimes. Kanaleth swiveled her head, glancing at the approaching rider. She twitched her tail, wagging back and forth before she stood, lumbering over to great the girl like...well, like an over-sized dog!

Mine, this is Dith and His! Dith, this is Mine.

The redhead was still in her oil-stained shirt and pants, tied on with a rope. Andere, despite having Impressed several months ago, still looked every bit the sailor she grew up as. She wasn't the least bit embarrassed about it, either. "Uhm, hello," she greeted Dith's rider, giving him a curious look. "I don't believe we've met. This is Kanaleth, as I'm sure she's said. I'm Andere." There was a long pause.

"...is there any particular reason you are beneath your dragon?"

Riders were so strange.

What was a?... Oh. Of course. The dragons here forgot things within a few days, or even less. It sounded terrifying to him; not to know who people were, to forget facts and lessons and... And things would get better once Ghenza started trading the herbal mixture over here. That time couldn't come soon enough, to his mind.

"A dragon from Ghenza," Dith supplied, "it's a place where the clutch before yours was sent, along with a few candidate and such, when they thought the plague had come here. Mine was one of the candidates that went along; I hatched and chose him, even if he is horrible... Still," the large brown gave a draconic grin, "it would be fair to say that I'm horrible to him too, and we love each other really, right F'al?"

F'al glowered up at his dragon, but after a moment he gave a grunt of assent. "I suppose so," he said dryly, "one is rather obligated to love one's dragon, even when he throws his weight around and slobbers on one."

"I did not slobber!" Dith protested, eyes whirling bright with amusement. "That's slander on my good name... Ah, but free time." The brown gave a deep rumble, turning his attention back to Kanaleth. "I have more free time here than at Ghenza, a lot more, and it seems everyone does. Riders don't do their own chores or anything, not beyond seeing to their dragons anyway. Mine said it would be like this, but I still find it strange to be treated like we're better than most everyone else... Ah!" As the red-haired woman drew near, Dith bugled a cheerful greeting, before going on to show the Ghenzan norm of open speech to other humans; "Nice to meet you, Andere."

"Ugh... Yes. Charmed I'm sure," F'al muttered as he finally wriggled free. "I was beneath my dragon," he went on as he got to his feet and dusted himself down, "because my dragon enjoys tormenting me... Oh, yes, I'm F'al. I have lived here for several turns, but not the last six months; I went to Ghenza along with the weyrlings who're just grown now, and while I was there I Impressed this brute. I feel it would have been less trouble to me to remain here." Less trouble, yes, but not better. He was happier now than he could recall being at any point in his life, but that didn't mean he was going to admit it.

"See," Dith addressed the gold, her rider, and included his own as well, "see how under appreciated I am? He's lucky I chose him, the little wherry; I could have picked a much better rider but I went for him out of pity, and this is the thanks I get. I am quite disgusted."

"You are quite a pain in the backside," F'al muttered, shooting Dith a death glare as he tried to get the dirt out of his hair.
