Stocking Festival  Location: Town Square
Time: 9am - 5pm Were you naughty or nice? Well, no need to check twice because the fairies just plain knows. Those judge nice will receive a present when they wake up, while those who were naughty will receive a piece of coal. Even more, if The Goddess herself, thinks of you as worthy, she might give you a greater gift! On the other hand, if she doesn't like you, she might just put rotten crops all over your bed.... Gather at the local town square to tell everyone what you got! (And be sure to thank The Goddess... (or else...)
Rule: There are no rules! Just gather around and talk about the gift you received and give some to people you like!
Also, Make sure to Nominate people in OOC as being the worthiest character overall. The one with the most vote will receive a gift from the Goddess. 3 characters per person can be nominated! Anyone is eligable if they aren't dead, as long as they were on the island for at least a season during the year. Nominees

  After a very disturbing morning involving Romane spending an hour simply staring at the tea cup on her kitchen table, another two hours of her testing the liquid inside with every known method she could possibly think of, one more hour spent searching the home for a sign of break in for whoever had decided to leave a perfectly safe cup of tea inside her home, and then some more time she didn't bother to keep track studying her gift. She was mostly at the gathering for work related purposes – watching to make sure the festival went on without a hitch – but, she did look over the group that had gathered in hopes that someone familiar would be there. A very specific someone that she should know wasn't going to walk out into the open if the contents of the letter left to her was correct. She sighed out a visible breath in the cold air. Even the festival's uncanny ability to always find itself on a sunny day couldn't cut through the cold of winter, hence why she was wearing a long, plain coat over her uniform, something she was somewhat thankful for from Paprika. Even if the fluffy edges didn't seem to make much sense to the article of clothing, she couldn't deny it was warmer than what she had on. She really wished she had brought that cup of tea with her.. Ah, circling the festival would help keep her warm better than standing around, she supposed.

Well, after such a warm welcome on a cold day of the year, how could Talna not come to celebrate the goddess? Plus, she had really missed the annual festivals – the city folk just didn't know how to throw a good party anymore! So, with her husband and her bowl of fruit salad in hand, she came to the square happy as a can be when there weren't any crops on their farm to live off of. Really, it was probably the worst time of year to come to town, but she could hardly wait another season to come back to her hometown. The little fairy that had left her her note reminded her of just how much she missed this place! Even if it was somewhat disappointing to see that the festival was so.. quiet for a festival. Oh, well, she could shrug that off. “'Bout everyone in town must be lazier than a squirrel in winter.” She laughed off the lack of activity to Turner before turning to straighten out his hand-knit scarf for what felt to be the hundredth time since they started to walk. Nervous? Nah, she just liked to make sure everything was perfectly – perfectly – straight!

  Following his lovely wife was, of course Turner. He had spent all his time since arriving on the island cleaning the field of the farms, so it was about time he got out, and what better time to get out that a festival were you were suppose to give gifts to everyone you knew! Oh, and why stopping at the people you knew? He could give gifts to everyone! Or well, nine people, since he had brought with him nine turnips! Oh, or cours he was going to give turnips to people! What else would you have expected from him? That was the best vegetable one could have! Oh, of course, they weren’t the freshess, coming from oversea, but starting next season, everyone on the island would get to know what a grade Class –S turnip was! Nobody was better than Turner Hipp into making those god-like vegetable! When his wife an him arrived at the townsquare, he couldn’t help but to have the same reaction as Talna! There wasn’t anyone else there, but a femal police officer, who was strangly familiar. Perhaps they had met in an alternate universe? IF an alternate universe existed, but that was just presumptuous.
”Oh my Goddess! Ain’t you right! Bunch or lazy dunkeys they are! And ya know what mamma always said : The laziest piggy is always da first one to end up as da morning bacon, oh yeah.” Lazy people all of them! At least him, Talna and that very dutiful police officer were there! He let his lovely wife set up his scarf again – oh, what would he do without her? Going in public with a crocked scarf? What a shame that would have been and just for that, he kissed her on the right cheek! He would have kissed her on the lips, but they were in public! That would have been indecent. ”I’ll be right back, Honeydew. I’m gonna go tell that officer what a fine job she does!” He permit himself a little public display of affection by patting Talna oh the shoulder (ohohoh, naughty Turner!) before walking toward Romane, turnip in hand! ”Good day to ya, miss officer! What a fine morning today is, don’t ya think so? I wanted to tell ya how much grateful ma wife and I are! ‘Cause we sure are! A fine lady such as you taking her job so seriously is an honour! We feel safe thanks to ya! Here! Take a turnip! It’ to show our appreciation!” 8 turnips left~
Coming from the other side of the townsquare was the town token old woman, Gladice! Of course, she was one of the few people living on the island who still workship the fairy and the goddess. Sure, she might not bring them offering every day like she use too when she was a young lady, but she still did it from time to time. It was only normal she came here with something to give to the Goddess on that one day; an apple pie. She also had a large handbag with her that contain her knitting equipment as well as various knitted piece of clothing to give to her friends and family! Talking about friends, she had just noticed her her first one! Talna! Oh my! She hadn’t changed at all! The old woman walked toward her grand niece, full smile on her lips. ”Talna! Oh my! Look at you! Look at you!” She wrapped her hands around the woman who, coincidently, was about the same height as her! Yes, her side of the family had never been very tall… It was all Trevor’s doing that all her children and grandchildren were giants! ”I am so happy you came back to the island! But bad you! You didn’t even come for a visit! Oh, don’t worry, I know you’ve been very busy setting the farm up…. Don’t tell anyone, but the people who owned it before you were crazier than the mayor….” And that meant a lot. Oh! Right! She had something for Talna! She started to look in her bag and took out a pair of green muff and handed it to her. ”It’s for you! Happy Stocking day, Talna!”

Well, wasn't this surprising? The fairies thing seemed to be true, and Matthew even told her a story about one putting pink polka-dots in some woman's hair, though he didn't answer when she asked who it was. That was so frustrating! Gemma wanted to ask what it was like to wake up with their hair all screwed up, but he didn't divulge the information, no matter how much she pried. And she did pry, let me tell you. She did, however, not have her present with her. What kind of present are fireflies, anyway? Come to think of it, they were free and flying about over all the house. That was a really pretty sight when she woke up extra early and went down for a drink of water, because, dammit, this RP'er was not gonna allow Hyacinth's gift go to waste because it was daytime and the little lights of the fireflies wouldn't be as... fantastic!
She'd seen fireflies before, but it was just such a nice surprise. As soon as she was over the initial surprise, she ran upstairs and bounced on the bed beside Matthew, several times, to wake him up. He was a little cranky, but whatever. He just had to see the little show and his spirits would be lifted! He spirits were lifted, but by a marginal level. He told her about this festival, too, but refused to come with her. Why? Because he wasn't gonna waste a holiday to do some good housework instead of coming to socialize. And since she wasn't in the mood for hard work, she decided to come here, instead. Now that she was here, though, she lowered her scarf to be tucked under her chin and smiled at the small foggy breath that came out everytime she exhaled. "Ah..." she exhaled, thinking about the hot coacoa she'd be making later.
Since she knew better than to approach people herself, considering the people that lived around here, she stood around by herself. She had wanted to approach the kindly old lady, who just happened to be busy talking with someone at all the festivals, but there was that crazy cop Matt told her to avoid, too, a little a ways. She was never one for that saying, 'Better safe than sorry', but she'd rather be able to still use her legs after this. So, without further ado, she went toward Gladice and stayed nearby. Near enough to be able to dash toward her if the cop pulled her gun out, but far enough to not actually be thought of as being with Gladice. Happy medium~

Stocking Festival~ Nanami had liked it for as long as she could remember. She wasn't a superstitious person, but even the biggest skeptic could enjoy a festival like this. With her brother on her right and her daughter on her left, Nanami strolled into the festival, gloved hands clasped behind her back. She was in a wonderfully bright mood, but her two family members were... not so much.
Yuuto was still perplexed by his gift. Since he had moved away from the island when he was still a kid, he had only ever received toys on the Stocking Festival. He had just assumed it was his parents being sneaky. So it had confused him to find a popsicle and an origami bird and a letter when he woke up. He still wasn't convinced that his sister wasn't playing some sort of prank on him. Still, she insisted that he come, so he did. It was as simple as that.
Haruka had a similar look on her face. That wasn't to say that she didn't like getting gifts -- she loved presents, and she was pretty damn materialistic, but as always, her mind was on more... shallow issues. Like how red her nose was! Stupid cold, made her face all pink! She tugged her scarf a little higher up as the three of them stopped walking. She hadn't even noticed they were there yet.
"God, would it kill you two to smile?" Nanami rolled her eyes before turning to the two, patting them firmly on the face. It had little effect.
Another family had entered the festival, right behind the Koyama's. The Parks! River, in all of her enthusiasm and excitement after her letter, had convinced Elliot that they should take part in this great Nirvani Island tradition~ River and Elliot hurried ahead, holding hands and swinging their arms back and forth (actually, River was doing the holding and the swinging. Elliot was just walking and going with it.) while Alex trailed a short distance behind. He really needed to learn how to say no. And to trust River out on her own. The former would happen much, much, much sooner than the latter.

  Normally, Romane would have been left alone during festivals like this. Even when Cid was still around, he hardly spent time with her so much as enjoying the people that all gathered. It was odd to see such a day without the monk wandering around in his awkward way.. Did Cid enjoy the snow? She wasn't sure as she hadn't bothered to ask.. In fact, she didn't know much about Cid.. It was too late now, though. She scuffed her boots against the snow, seeming to consider touching it for a moment or so before she forced herself to move along, her eyes turning back up to do a quick head count and study who had apparently joined in the festivities during her musings. Gemma Rhodes – safe. Quiet, kept to herself, but didn't seem to be aiming to cause a disturbance or harm. Gladice LeBlanc – safe. The woman was a town representative and, although Romane had arrested her once, it was proven false by her superiors. If anything, she should probably apologize to the woman instead of suspect her. Koyama family – all safe.
Seemed to be a well rounded group, average. Alex Park, Elliot Park – both safe. The younger girl even reminded her of herself, what with the red hair and stoic stature~ ..Though, she doubted that anyone would appreciate her telling them something like that. She wasn't very well liked in town, after all. Last was River Park, who was probably the biggest danger the festival had. False arrest or not, the woman still had a record on her plus she had been caught drinking with minors. Deplorable behavior! At least there was only one threat this year, she couldn't even count how many there had been last year! ..Which was probably more due to the fact that she hadn't come the year before, but that was only because everyone outside her house were dangerous! And she had been busy asking Cid to stay.. Ah.. Perfect, now she was starting to feel saddened again! What better way was there for Romane to cheer her up than to interrogate some civilian? So, with her eyes on River, she had started straight for the blond when.. A turnip was thrust at her. What?! She jumped back a step, the snow crunching beneath her feet and a little near-stumble threatening that she slip on the ice below taking her further off guard. She quickly stabled herself, though her heart was still racing at a hundred and twenty miles per hour in her chest.
“Pardon me, Mr..?” She stopped to look him over, pausing to eye the turnip both curiously and suspiciously as she went back into her usual posture. It was at that point that what he said came to her, though it did little to alleviate her confusion. Was he.. honestly saying that? He appreciated her work? She forgot her urge to go question River silly as any sadness washed away. That honestly cheered her up more than anything could! She almost smiled, but she had forgotten Cid's request for her to practice that action when he left. Instead, she straightened up further, proudly took the turnip as if it were a medal or trophy than a simple vegetable, and spoke with all the seriousness she could muster, “Thank you, Mr. Hipp, I am pleased to know that my work has not gone unnoticed by a civilian such as yourself.” With that said, she held the vegetable in one hand and looked at it carefully. Had she ever eaten a turnip? No. Was she going to? Still, no. But, she was going to keep this turnip safe~

Talna gave a firm nod and an even firmer, “Mmhm.” after Turner spoke in complete agreement. Did she always understand what he meant with those sayings? Oh, who knew? But, he was her husband and she knew the man she married! Whatever he said just had to be something truer than what any of the other city folks could even dream of coming up with! Really, she always told Turner, he should try writing a book to teach all those folks what was really what, but man was too much in love with his farming to ever sit down long enough to do that.. Maybe when they were old and letting all the kids do the work? ..Not that they had any kids.. yet~
She gave him a soft pat on the scarf to show she had just right again when he kissed her cheek. Awe~ She would have kissed him back, but the man already had his sights elsewhere. She chuckled softly and nodded at him before he started to run off, raising her brows and giving a small gasp when he touched her shoulder like that. She was about ready to drag him back and scold him for doing that in public, at a festival for the Goddess, no less, but he already ran off. She shook her cheeks free of any color when she noticed that no one seemed to have caught the affectionate display – she guessed even the Goddess could forgive them for that, right? She grasped her own bag, checking inside to make sure Turner hadn't accidentally stuffed a hoe or pliers in there like he had last time, but it seemed to just have her usual bundle of gifts, knitting tools, a few turnips to use in dinner that night.. Yep, seemed like her stuff! Her other hand easily held the fruit salad she got from her fairy that morning and, after confirming both were safe and sound, she started to head off..
To run into Gladice! She smiled brightly at the woman, excited to see her after so long and tried her best to her back, hands full as they were. “Gladice!” She practically squealed that out, pulling her arms back and holding the salad to her chest with one arm as the woman went on. “Why, thank ya, darlin'!” She added as she took the green gloves, looking at them happily. Ah, she loved getting knitted garments! They were so useful and she could always compare them to her own knitted mittens. ..Too bad, looks like Gladice was still better than her by miles. She slipped the gloves into her purse, having already a pair of gloves on that she was a bit too preoccupied to change just then. “Oh, I know, Gladice – Ya should'a seen the home when I first got ta it! It was worse than if one of them tornadoes went plowin' through it.” ..Then again, Talna said that when a sock was on the floor.
“It's not as good as yer handiwork, but..” She went into her bag and took out yet another scarf~ Pink and white, like some of the prettiest turnips on their farm were! She slipped it over Gladice's neck and fixed it up as best as she could with one hand, “What'd yer fairy give ya? Yer a Wind too, aren't ya? Field goer?” She asked before going on with a small nod to her bowl of fruit, “Left me one of them fruit salad's and – oh, my Goddess, she even told me ta visit ya! Now don't this just work out perfect?” She smiled again as she realized that – how nice was that? It was like the Goddess wanted them to meet too~! She looked back at the entrance to town square, noting the new group of folks joining the crowd. ..There was even Alex! She held up a hand to Gladice to ask for a small moment before waving to the man, “Alex! Come on down here! Don't ya be goin' shy on me!” She shouted loudly at him from where she stood, unwilling to leave Gladice when she knew she could call him on over. She looked back at the old woman once she finished, “Ya know Alex, Gladice? Poor boy don't got no girl to do knittings for him! Pity, ain't it?” He was probably freezing in this weather! Honestly, what kind of man didn't even have a mother to knit for him? It was downright sad!

 Well then. Someone was going to get a proper smack upside the head this morning. So far the only culprit in mind was that girl he had met at the docks. She seemed far gone enough to sneak into his house and put rotten vegetables on his bed while he was sleeping. How she had managed to do it without waking him was a mystery to Dimitri. He was still new in town, so if this was some sort of hazing ritual of theirs, he was going to be even more upset. Still though, the man said nothing as he minded his own business, sitting on a bench in the town square. His expression remained uninterested in the happenings going on, reflecting his feelings for the festival. He had only heard a small snippet of banter concerning the event the day before while walking around town. Something about fairies and a deity? Pure and utter nonsense, in his opinion.
Perhaps it was something to entertain the children? Like Christmas? The thought made him smirk as he cupped his hands around the end of the cigarette hanging from his lips. With a lighter in his exposed fingers, he lit the end of his cancer stick before pocketing the chrome covered Zippo. The weather was nice. Chilly, sure, but he had suffered through worse. Simply folding his arms across his chest to keep his hands warm, he began to observe the townsfolk engaging in their silly tradition. Some people seemed quite taken with the idea of worshiping an imaginary creature. Simply allowing the ashes of his cigarette to fall on his coat as he continued to people watch, he wondered vaguely if this little island had its own cult of some kind.
It wasn't unheard of for farming communities to believe in the spirits of nature, he had to concede that point. Either way, he would have n-o-t-h-i-n-g to do with it! So long as he could romp around in the wilderness and go hunting? These islanders could worship their tiny gods to their heart's content! Hell, if he ever saw one running around maybe he'd try to catch it, even. Ah well, back to studying the locals... In all honesty they seemed like a nice bunch of people. Just a couple screws loose in the head, perhaps.

  ”Hipp!” Exclaimed the farmer with all the pride in the world! Oh, he loved his name so much! After all, it had been given to him by his poppa who had received it from his own who had received it from his own! From generation to generation, up until the first settlers of the island! Always given from father to son! Just like their love of turnips. Ah, it was good to be a Hipp! It was a family name to be proud of and he would teach his own children (soon~) to be proud of it too! ”Turner Hipp, that’s mah name, ma’am!” He hoped she would remember it! That way, whenever she would eat a vegetable, she would think of him! She might even become a regular customer to their farm! Oh, he could give her a little discount if they became better friends! Yup, he had just decided, anyone Green-heart level would have a discount at his farm! That was what friends were for, wasn’t it? ”Now, if ya’ll excuse me, ma’am, I need ta go back to me wife. We wouldn’t want her to think that I might be flirting with ya, now do we?” He flashed his best smiled to the female police officer and walked back toward his wife…
…Only to end up in front of Gemma! Not that he knew her name, only that she was midway between where he used to be, to where he was going to be and that she was alone! Oh no! Poor girl! All alone on stocking day? Without friends of family? That was just unacceptable! But his wife was waiting for him… Oh, she was busy with Gladice! All was right then! She could wait a minute or two! Surely she would understand that this was a crisis. ”Good day ta ya, ma’am! Happy Stocking day. I sure hope ya got yerself a wonderful gift this morning.” He said to Gemma while smiling. Oh Turner, were you ever not in a good mood? ”Now tell me, what is a fine woman such as you doing here all by herself. That ain’t right, oh it sure aint. Like Mama always said, the fly would be nothing without the manure!” Not one of Mama’s finest… He placed his hand in his turnip bag and took one out, handing it to Gemma. ”Here, that’s fer ya, alright. That’ll be da best vegetable ya aint ever taste, you’ll see! Will bring a smile right back to yer lips, oh yeah.” 8 Turnips left~

What a lovely scarf that was! That cheers Gladice right up! Not that she was in a bad mood to begin with. In fact, today was probably the day of the year were she had been the happiest. Everything just seemed to go well. Keith was awake, Conor was less of an ungrateful child, everything was well with Yoakim and his family, even Judith was less angry that usual! The cherry on top of it? She hadn’t seen Gaston in almost a week! Wonderful, simply wonderful! ”Well, I’ll tell you Talna, conciering the people who’ve been living there before you, it might have been for the best if a tornado did went throught it.” Oh yeah, she knew the rumours and, knowing what she knew about the Valentine/Rockwell/Jalapeno, she could believe them without fearing being wrong. Especially with Holy! Satanic sacrifice? Really? Dear, that island needed a shrink. Maybe one would appear from nowhere no that she had thought that…
”Oh! You wouldn’t believe what I got! Muffins, cupcakes and cookies! Enough to feed an army! If I didn’t know best, I’d believe that little fairy wants me to take some weight!” But Gladice wasn’t skinny, now was she? Sure, she had lost a pound or two since last year, running around the island like she did, but there was nothing alarming about that. Oh well, half of those pastries had been eaten by Conor anyway. That would teach her of leaving the plate on the kitchen counter. ”Oh, of course I am! She actually told me to go there someday. I’ve been neglecting it, I know, I know, shame on me. OH! I just had the most wonderful idea! We should go there together! A picnic?” Well, maybe not in winter, but surely the little wind fairy could wait until late spring for that.
The old woman took a look in the general direction of where Talna was waving. Alex? Who was that. The name was familiar… When she noticed the blue hair, she knew who it was! No, it wasn’t Kade… rumours were that he had dyed his hair purple, anyway… No, but that was the blue haired cook from the festival! Of course she rememebered him. ”I don’t know him personally but… I’m a judge at the cooking festival, like you know and he was there… Oh, poor boy. He failed so, so, sooo bad. Way at the bottom. You would expect better from a professional cook.” She shook her head in disappointment. You would expect so much more from a cook! Of course, she hadn’t expected him to do better than Alanis, that was virtually impossible, but at least beat a hairdresser and a small child! Then again, if he had no one to knit for him, he could have just been depressed that day. That would explain so much. ”Oh, poor boy. Everyone should have at least someone to knit for them, but… talking about knitting… you and Turner have been married for a while now. When can I expect you to start knitting tiny clothes?”

Gemma had just happened to see Nanami a little a ways, but she didn't want to be an pestering annoyance, so she withheld herself from approaching. It seemed that these people really did believe in that whole fairy business, but she did not. She, on the other hand, believes Matthew had done it and that was why he was so cranky when he woke up. She did wonder back to how that girl would get her new do, the one he had told her about, but she couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that it was some kind of small being that flitted around leaving gifts for people. But really, why would Matthew back up Judith? Yes, it was to throw her off! Nothing more, it just had to be!
She was snapped out of her thoughts when a young man approached her, he was... okay. But that weird way of talking... it was so... country. Gemma found it extremely hard to resist looking at him strangely when he quoted his mother, that was a disgusting quote. "Oh, umm, thank you!" Gemma chirped up when Turner handed her the turnip, raising it to eye level and just inspecting it. She had never tasted one before, so that appealed to her quite a bit. But then she went on to say something rather odd, "It looks a little like a shrunken head, don't you think?" She asked, holding it up for him to look at it. Morbid fascination was something people normally didn't expect about Gemma at a first glance, or anyone ever, for that matter.
"You know, but without the eyes, mouth, nose, cheekbones, eyebrows, ears... well, you catch my drift, right?" As Gemma said all of this, there was a rather small smile around her face. She even went to point where everything she noted would be, were it a shrunken head. That wasn't weird, not at all.

Neither Yuuto nor Haruka seemed willing to humor her, so Nanami gave up on the two with a sigh and a wave of her hand. Since they weren't as enthusiastic as she had been hoping, she glanced around the festival in search of someone else to talk to -- and she immediately noticed Gemma. A small smile playing on her lips, Nanami raised her hand to wave to the woman... and then noticed that she was already talking to someone! Unwilling to interrupt whatever conversation Gemma was having with Turner, Nanami pretended that she was doing something else, and she pulled Yuuto into a hug.
"Nanami, wha--" Yuuto began, but was cut off as Nanami yanked him down so that she didn't have to stand on her toes to fit her chin on his shoulder. "Shut up, don't talk," she snapped, moving him to the side slightly so she could spy on Gemma over her brother's shoulder.
Alex was confused when he heard someone calling for him. For a moment he thought he was just imagining things, but sure enough, there was Talna waving at him. The man hesitated -- their date (if you could even call it that) had been unusual and awkward at best. At least on his end. He returned the wave with a small smile, and fully intended to end it there... but then two skinny pairs of arms appeared, one pair on each side, and grabbed his arms to drag him forward. River and Elliot, forcing their brother into social situations as usually. He let them pull him (River more than Elliot) a few steps before yanking his arms free and walking forward on his own. "Err, hi. Talna. And... Gladice," he looked at the two women uncomfortably. He just remembered Gladice from the Cooking Festival, and that wasn't something he wanted to be reminded of. But both sisters were standing on either side of him, making sure that he couldn't run away. He felt like he had intruded on a conversation he wouldn't fit well into, so that was exactly what he wanted to do. His sisters knew him well.

  Oh, well, of course Romane didn't want anyone to believe she was flirting – especially on the job! So, she nodded and let Turner walk off without much of a protest, going back to her usual rounds in the snow, but this time with a turnip in hand that she paused to study on occasion. She still wasn't sure what sort of gift it was meant to be as it didn't have much usefulness to her – she wasn't going to be stupid enough to eat something just handed to her on a whim, after all. But, she apparently wasn't smart enough to drop it as she kept the little purple and white vegetable in hand for the remainder of her round and, most likely, for the remainder of the festival. It was a nice little reminder that someone still appreciated her work around here and, certainly, it made her work just a little harder with the idea in mind. Ah, motivation, it really came from the oddest of things~

Better if a tornado – my! If someone like Gladice was saying that, then it must be true! Gladice was one of the most gentlest, sweetest women she knew! She couldn't imagine Gladice wishing ill on someone unless they really deserved it – which was why she was sure to steer clear of the mayor.. She would have to ask Turner to be the one to befriend that man! The men were all his job at any rate, even if he seemed to be so keen on the women in this festival.. Oh, well, she bent the rules too with Alex! Who seemed to be heading right over after she called him. Ah, perfect! She smiled and looked back to Gladice, brightening even further when she heard that offer for a picnic. Oh! “A picnic – why, Gladice, me an' Turner would love ta join ya on a picnic.. In fact, why not bring all yer family down!” Didn't that sound just lovely? She was sure the Wind Fairy would enjoy the company and Talna hadn't found very many cities with a picnicking spot quite like the field on Nirvani~! Threatening animals aside, most of which new from her last stay on the island, Nirvani still had the most charm out of any place around.
..Plus, she missed having some old friend to gossip with. She nodded sympathetically to Gladice's comment on Alex, sending him a small glance as she considered that. A professional cook failing the cooking festival? My, he didn't eat enough turnips, did he? Or he didn't do his weekly visit to the church for good luck! She was about to comment on that when the mentioning of small clothes came up. An instant blush and she gave a bashful smile at the woman. It wasn't rude of Gladice, of course, but she couldn't help being embarrassed with her answer, “I can't be sure mahself.. We hadn't got any signs yet..” To think, Talna was twenty-four and she didn't even have three children to show for it! It was downright pathetic! Her aunt already had five by the time she was Talna's age and still went on until she was clear up to twelve! Talna would be lucky if she even got seven children in before she was too old..
She let out a sigh in disapproval with herself, disliking having to think of such things – but, thankfully, Alex had finally managed over to them to drag her mind from it! Smile returned, she looked at the taller and then to the woman on either arm of the man. “Hi, Alex, who're these purdy ladies hanging off ya like a calf to it's mama?” She questioned with an eye going over each girl. She sent a short look to Gladice in curiosity whether she knew anything about either~ And here she thought Alex was a single man! Looked like he wasn't having any trouble with the bachelorettes of the town~!

  Ah! She liked the turnip! Of course she would, everyone like turnips! Turnips were good for you after all! Not only were they the best tasting vegetables, but they also had a high quantity of Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z! It also was a rich source of iron, potasiom, phosphate, zinc, uranium, mercury, lead, stainless steel, foil and barbed wire! …. Something was strange about what he had just thougth about the tunips…. Oh! Right! It could also make you 20years younger if prepared correctly! Really, there wasn’t any reason to not like turnips! People should just eat them all they long! Shame that he could only grow them in spring. Damn those gamerules that make no logic sense!
[ b]”Quite happy that you like it, ma’am! I beg you pardon, I didn’t caught yer name. Me name’s Turner! Turner Hipp! I be the one running that ol’ farm all da way back in the fields!” He introduced himself proudly. Being a farmer was the best job in the world!! After all, without farmers, what would people eat? Meat? Ah! Blasphemy! Or they could try them come back running to him once they were all too fat to run after the animals of theirs. Only good old vegetables could make you lean and healthy like the Hipps! Sure, slice of ham every now and then was good for you, but the vegetables needed to be the main meal! And thankfully, that woman looked just like one of ‘em veggy eater! How else could she have such good skin? You would think she bath in mud every day since she was four!
”A Shrunken head?” He asked her, a bit incredulous. Turnips weren’t heads! He looked back at the vegetable that she was olding, trying to see the head in it… of the shrunken. It looked more like a small beach ball than a shrunken anything, if you were to ask him. ”Well, a head without the eyes, mouth, nose, cheekbones, eyebrows, ears and the rest of yer drift aint a head ‘nymore, now aint it? I say that it’s more the other way ‘round if ‘nything. A Shrunken Head looks like one of ‘em turnips, but with eyes, mouth, nose, cheekbones, eyebrows, ear and the rest of the drift.” Ah, talking about turnips like that was so rejuvenating! He felt like a young man once again! Like a young 18 year old boy with a head full of dreams! Just like that one time where he thought about becoming a rutabaga farmer, of all things! Oh, he was such a foolish child.
A bit further from Turner and Gemma were still Gladice, Talna and the newly joined gossiping housewife Alex!...and his sisters. But the point was, they were now three gossiping housewives at the townsquare! Just like things were suppose to be! Too bad Alex wasn’t the kind to wear a dress or a skirt… or was he? Hmmm…. That was something to be pounded upon. Would Alex have the legs to rock one of those mini-skirts? Maybe if he was to wax~
”Oh, my! What a lovely idea that would be!” Exclaime the old woman at Talna’s suggestion. A picnic with both of their families would simply be divine! Judith would… no. No. She wouldn’t bring Judith. She liked the woman, but for some reason she didn’t quite understood, not so many town folks seemed to share her opinion of the woman. No, instead she would bring Yoakim and his family as well as Alanis and Keith and… No. She didn’t see the boy as being the family picnic style and pushing a wheelchair all the way to the fields would just be bothersome. That, and the fact that Conor just didn’t want to leave his side anymore and he wasn’t officially part of the family… yet. ”I’m sure Yoakim, that’s my eldest grandson, if you remember, your great-grand-cousin twice remove who’s about the same age as you… or something like that. Well, he got married a bit more than a year ago now and him and his lovely wife have two little Rumpelstiltskins that would just love to play in the field. And his youngest sister would just love to join us, I’m sure. She’s as lovely as a cupcake.” Cyanide filed pink cupcake with mercury sprinkle on top, but a cupcake nevertheless!
She then turned her attention to Alex and the two other girls that had now joined them. Of course, Gladice knew that they were his sister! Mostly because she had been thrown into jail with River a year ago…. Not something she wished to remember. The old woman smiled to the three newly arrived before resuming her talk to Talna. ”Ah, you just need to keep trying, I’m sure you’ll have some soon enough. What about, Alex? Any woman you fancy? No one to start a little family with? A boy your age! You should have a girl, already. Where are you hiding her?”

Alex was so uncomfortable right now. It made him think of all of those awful parties his dad dragged him to as a young teenager. With his brother away at college, the person closest to his age was his step-mother. He had spent one too many evenings hanging around his twenty-something year old step-mom, listening in on the housewives chat about boring things. He didn't mind just standing there quietly, but there was something about the conversation that made him feel deeply out of place. So when Talna and Gladice started talking about women and his lack of a significant relationship, he felt a deep surge of emotion that he hadn't felt since he was fifteen years old and listening to his step-mother talk about giving birth to quadruplets in excruciating detail--the primal desire to make a run for it. But River, the freakish alien that she was, had wedged her shin behind his ankle, keeping him locked in place. Unless, of course, he wanted to fall over. And he did not.
"I don't even know what that means!" River exclaimed with a cheerful laugh, grinning at Talna. Alex suppressed a sigh and gave up--River won, once again. "These are my sisters, Elliot and--"
"River Park, nice to meet you!" River jumped in, grabbing Talna's hand and shaking it enthusiastically. "And nice to see you again!" she added to Gladice. Alex shot her a skeptical look; how did they know each other? Oh, he didn't want to know.
River was in a great mood. Alex wasn't speaking, which meant that she could do it for him~ She loved speaking for Alex! Like Elliot, there were lots of things he usually didn't express, but unlike Elliot, he always had the best reactions! "Alex is like a monk or something! He hasn't had a girlfriend in years," she stepped forward, elbowing Alex back a few steps so she could take his place. There, she had probably bothered him enough that he wouldn't run away for a while~ "He says it's because it's not a priority, but I think he's just shy." Alex bit back a blush. What the hell was she talking about? "I just don't know what to do with him," River let out a long, forlorn sigh, placing a hand against her cheek. "I'm not getting any younger, you know? I'd like to spend time with my niece or nephew while I still can... I'd love to hear your suggestions~" she ended on a cheerful note. Oh, she had so much fun teasing Alex~

Hick. Everytime Turner opened his mouth that word popped into her head, hick. It was even in the way that he spoke, too! Oh, but he was polite, that was for sure. "Oh, I'm sorry about that, Turner. I'm Gemma, Gemma Rhodes. Current teacher for the younger kiddies down at the--" Creeping Vulture, "Schoolhouse." Gemma said brightly, because some or other she'd be seeing him around school sometime soon. He looked way too young to have older children, and she was sure she'd never seen his face around the school grounds, ever. There, at least the introduction was out of the way.
However, once he got a little off his rocker. But, it wasn't surprising. What would someone like him know anything about Shrunken Heads? Or herself, for that matter. That'd have to be a story, and not an particularly interesting one, for another day. She did, however, see his simple point of view. With none of those things, then it couldn't be that, right? She looked up at the man, then at the turnip, then at the man, and, finally, back at the turnip. "Yeah, I see your point." She allowed, she shrugged and nodded good naturedly. "But, I still think it's the other way around. So, agree to disagree?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
