"T-t-that's it, I'm g-going b-back." "D-don't be a dumbass, it's a f-farther walk back than it is f-forward."
The siblings hesitated for only a moment on the sidewalk they were following in order to bicker, then turned and continued onward with no lack of shivering and chattering teeth. Neither of them were really made to deal with cold weather, so they had at least been smart enough to wear coats - it's just that they had underestimated just how freezing it could get when walking all the way over to their friends' house. For example, never in Adeline's life would she ever regret wearing a skirt so completely as she was right now; and never in Theo's life had he ever thought he would regret acting tough and wearing a really uselessly thin jacket to pretend like the weather didn't bother him. Poor choices were made on either side.
The rest of their journey was spent in awkward silence outside of the shuffling of the presents weighing their arms down, and the increasingly unhappy hisses from the golden snakes that were huddling at Adeline's neck. By the time they were standing at Sun's doorstep, the teenagers were shuddering so miserably that anyone looking might forget that they were there to deliver presents and spread 'cheer', considering how they looked as if they wanted to strangle each other. This would be further put into question as Theo reached out and repeatedly pressed the doorbell, only stopping when the snake-like flash of Adeline's hand smacked him in the back of the head.
"Don't t-touch me you freak-" "You p-press that button one more t-time..."

Luckily for both Adeline and Theo it was at that moment that Sun opened the door. She looked only mildly agitated that in her house full of capable kids not a single one could be bothered to answer the door. Well Edmund WAS in the middle of cooking, but the rest surely had no excuse.
However when Sun saw the two freezing teenagers on her doorstep her face brightened into a smile. "Hello Theo!" She had met him when Gavin had brought him over one weekend. Turning to the girl she scanned her quickly. Though Sun had never met Adeline, Sun knew who it was from various descriptions of her. Sun did have to note that Theo's claimings that Adeline was a '"horrible and disgusting monster" was as untrue as Sun thought it would be. "And you must be Adeline! Nadia has told me all about you! Oh goodness you both must be frozen! Come in!" She scooted back a bit so the door was more open to letting them in.
Once they'd entered Sun shut the door behind them to prevent more cold from coming in. "Here let me take your coats." She held out her hands for Theo's ridiculous excuse for a coat, boys were really so ridiculous sometimes, and Adeline's as well. "Do you want something hot to drink? We've got hot chocolate mix, hot cider, tea, or I could put on a pot of coffee!" Sun was clearly thrilled to be having visitors. She did so love when her kid's little friends came over.

The two teenagers had the uncanny ability to straighten up and smile shakily at Sun the moment the door opened, playing the near-brawl off as just normal idle movements they had made as they were waiting. More than likely, it was a mutual act put on to make sure that the lady with the warm house had no reason to keep them out. Ready to claw each other's face off or not, they were freezing, and that took top priority.
"Heyyy Ms. Sun, thanks for that. I t-think my antennas were actually going to freeze off my head at that rate." Theo drawled casually, cutting his sister off as she took a step forward and purposely extending his arm out as he pulled off his jacket. He effectively kept the frowning girl out in the cold as long as it took him to quit blocking the doorway and saunter to the side with his gift bags. The stupid bee could not have looked any more smug about it, either. Rubbing his hands together briskly to shake off the frostbite he felt he was definitely in danger of, he glanced around for some of the other family members to show up and then met his current host with a level, sincere stare. "Hot chocolate. Seriously, that would be awesome."
Adeline didn't really have a chance to speak up until after her pushy younger brother had made his grand entrance, with a lot of annoying frills that weren't lost on her. The urge to just kick the legs out from underneath him was boiling inside, although she was too much of a lady to do that. Not in front of other people, anyway. So she waited her 'turn' and offered her tiny smile to Sun as she shuddered into the house, trying to silently urge her hair not to start striking at a certain bee as she walked near him. "I-it's a pleasure to meet you, I hope we aren't actually intruding. I brought s-something for you and the rest of the house, though." She managed carefully, shakily maneuvering a festive tin from one of her gift bags and holding it out. "They're..mini fruit tarts." With a sidelong glance at Theo as she heard how casually he was regarding the owner of the house, she shook her head. "But I'd love some t-tea, if it's not out of your way. Any kind at all."

Taking each of the teen's coats, Sun turned and open the coat closet and began hanging them up. "Intruding? Oh not at all!" She waved her free hand dismissively out at them from the depths of the closet. Once she emerged Sun took the tin from Adeline's shaking hand and gave her a bright smile. "Thank you, that was very thoughtful of you. I'll put them out in the kitchen so we can all enjoy them. So that was one hot chocolate and one tea. Come with me to the kitchen. Edmund's making up something to eat in there as we speak." She turned and started leading the way to the kitchen, pausing to shout up the stairs. "Girls! Your friends are here! You should come down!"
And indignant sounding Gavin voice drifted down. "Mom! I'm up here too! Don't lump me in with Kei."
Sun gave Theo and Adeline a mischievous look before shouting back up. "Well ok Gavin! When you're done arranging your hair barrettes, Theo and Adeline are here!" She smirked as a groan of "Mom!" drifted down. "That's what he gets for making me answer the door." She informed her guests before continuing to lead the way to the kitchen.
Edmund was busy chopping away at various vegetables though he paused in his staccato pace to peer up at the guests. He had of course met Theo before, though Edmund hadn't totally decided how he felt about him yet. The girl that was with him was new to him, though he thought he'd seen her around school. "Um... hi there." He waved with the hand not wielding a knife.
Sun set the tin down on the island and then bustled over to the pantry to pull out the hot chocolate. "Edmund have you met Adeline before? I know you've met Theo."
Edmund shook his head at his mother as she emerged victoriously from the pantry before she opened the tea cabinet to peer in there. "It's nice to meet you Adeline." He turned his head down from her, looking slightly shy. He couldn't really help it, she was just very pretty.

Despite the almost stifling tension between he and his sister, Theo had the ability to act completely unfazed - probably because he was aware that the situation wouldn't go downhill much farther with all these witnesses around. Especially witnesses that included Sun, who had just referred to Gavin as a girl, to which Theo snorted loudly and gave her an approving look. "Did you really just say that? You have to be the most awesome mom ever." Awesome indeed, because he would probably be laughing in Gavin's face for that the next chance he got. Securing his place in the kitchen and waiting for the rest of the household to start trickling down from upstairs, Theo squinted at Edmund and gave him a short "Hey." in return. There was a lopsided kind of smile on his face when he said it, and that was probably because there was a whole lot else he wanted to say. One of those words might have been housewife. His mouth gave a little twitch. Belongs in the kitchen.
Adeline responded to the thanks with a satisfied little smile, and a nod of her head. After all the snide remarks she'd taken from Theo concerning the 'brown nosing' factor of bringing a gift like that, she had started to regret the idea. Now she could at least be assured that it wasn't stupid after all. Theo was stupid; obviously. While trying and failing not to smirk a little at the disdainful reply from Gavin, the purple girl edged to the other side of the walkway to avoid her brother (who she noticed had an annoying look on his face already), stopping a moment to stare at the pile of chopped vegetables on the counter. She had heard Sun mention that someone named Edmund was cooking, but somehow seeing a boy legitimately preparing food that didn't have 'instant' in the name surprised her. What else had she been missing out on? "Oh..hello, it's a pleasure to meet you too." She added with a short delay, smiling a little before noticing he looked uncomfortable. "...You're very good at that." She added awkwardly, gesturing vaguely to his knife cuts. Adeline then flushed with mild color. Just because she tried to be social didn't mean she was always good at it. There was a poorly disguised snort from Theo the a** shortly after.

"I really did just say that." Sun gave Theo an amused look. "And thank you, I do try." She continued to rummage around in the many tins and bags of tea. It seemed to her that Adeline might be a jasmine tea type of girl, or maybe even oolong. She pulled out her favorite sort of each and set those on the counter as well.
Meanwhile Edmund was giving Theo a steady look. It was as if he sensed the snide remarks buzzing around in his head. Finally he looked away, dismissively ignoring him the way a cow might ignore any annoying buzzing thing and turned his attention back to Adeline. "Oh... thank you. Mom taught me." He lifted the cutting board to scrape the chopped up bits of vegetable into a bowl with the knife. He moved aside a bit so Sun could put a kettle on the stove.
There was a slightly loud noise upstairs like something crashing then then the sound of hurried footsteps down the stairs. Before anyone else could say anything Nadia came on the scene with a well satisfied look on her face. She looked around until her eyes fell on Adeline. Ignoring Theo completely, she walked closer to her target.
"Hi Adeline. You look nice today. I'm glad you came to visit." She was hoping that Adeline would notice that she'd now grown very nicely into a child instead of a toddler. Nadia had been very happy to shed that form. She had no greeting for Theo. He was that weird bee boy that her stupid older sister had a crush on.
