cacao/cocoa/chocolate/same difference o.o
So I bought some ghirardelli chocolate today, 86% cacao. 5g fiber for a little section (20%) and a small amount of protein. It also has all those good old antioxidants.

BUTTTT. wtf?

25g fat and 15g saturated fat-- and only for a small portion! D:

Oh My Goodness.

Without some fat, your brain will not function. Nothing is perfect.

Just savor your wonderful chocolate! You can eat just one.....and most people wouldn't have a wheelbarrow full anyway!

You know, people used to live a very long time without worrying about every morsel they consumed. They enjoyed life. Would you rather live forever and never eat chocolate? Sometimes I think we get so wrapped up in what's supposedly good and what isn't that it takes all the joy out of life. Wonder what the life-extension factor for "Joy" is......?

I completely agree with this right here. Is it better to live to be 90 years old by depriving yourself of all sorts of enjoyable experiences and foods or would you rather have a slightly shorter life where you enjoyed as many things as possible and had less stress worrying about what you ate everyday.

If i live to be 70 heck that's long enough for me so i'll go ahead and enjoy eating different foods that may not be the absolute healthiest thing ever.

Saturated fats are still something you can burn for energy.

Calories aren't the enemy. Bad metabolic math is consuming too little or too many for you to burn.

You can eat to live and enjoy life, or you can live to eat. With the latter you might not enjoy living for quite as long. Not even taking into question quality of life. Ghirardelli uses a lot of artificial ingredients, though, and they mostly use cacao as a health buzzword. "health foods" are generally a market which takes advantage of people who don't really understand dietary science.

Arm yourself with knowledge, and eat free!(Free to eat every 3rd thing, because you know how awful first and second really is.)

It's not like you're eating a lot of it. Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, is a much better indulgence then some of the other ones out there. (I personally wouldn't eat Ghiridelli, if you want a good one Sharffen Berger! <3)

Besides, your body does need a certain amount of fat, calories, sugar on top of the daily vitamins and minerals.

So enjoy your chocolate square and stop worrying...

Also, to add to the rest of the 'eat your chocolate and like it!' I doubt it's actually the cocoa itself that has trans fats, but whatever has been added. Try eating it right from the pod, if that will make you happier. smile

It's important to keep in mind that fat is essential to our diets and while it's best to choose poly-and mono-unsaturated fats on labels, all saturated fats are not equal.

Ghirardelli Midnight Reverie only has unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, sugar, soy lecithin, vanilla, and natural flavor in it. The saturated fat comes from the cocoa butter in the form of stearic acid. Stearic acid actually converts to an unsaturated fat in the body and it's neutral in terms of cholesterol. The rest of the fat in cocoa butter is poly- and mono-unsaturated fat, which can reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol.

That particular chocolate is so rich that even though a serving is listed at four squares, many people can really only handle one square at a time. Either way though, as long as you aren't eating more calories than you are burning, the chocolate will not cause weight gain.
