I once attempted to build a coffee table out of four shells. The glass broke, unfortunately. I may try again someday, if I can find some thicker glass.
ETA: Also, if you want major brownie points, a suggestion: if your ship crew is retarded like
these guys and does NOT have a sheet of plywood on deck to soak up the smiley-face dents a flying 5" shell leaves, suggest it. It's easier to replace a giant sheet of chipboard than it is to replace a welded steel deck plate.
