I've been peeking in on many topics asking just this question but each have various answers depending on how the question is asked, so I will try to be as specific as possible *clears throat*
I'm on gaia quite often and have watched items rise and fall in price with no clue as to what causes these drastic fluxes. My question, I suppose, is what do you suggest now that will rise in price in a month? Two months? Three?
Also, holiday items; when is too early to buy/sell? I believe Valentine's is the next to approach (after x-mas and new years, of course)

Yes sell it sometime soon. This item spikes a lot during Christmas time. The price it's at right now actually well surpasses my expectations o__o

price fluxes can happen randomly, or there could be unique circumstances for that item that are causing it. a general example would be everything from the Cash Shop.
crazy high @ release steep drop until hoarders get in on it <<< you can buy here slow rise/constant price until <<< you can buy here too small/medium spike @ date the item is pulled out. (for anything except CIs) slow fall until supply decreases enough to = demand. <<< waiting for this is risky but buying here will make you the most profit. constant rise with somewhat unpredictable spikes and troughs.
Right now, the items that are currently good to buy (i.e. they're at a low) are the items from the bundled re-releases (minus Powdy Pengy, that's already recovered). Bitter Frost will soon be ready to buy too, and has a much greater chance of showing promising returns in another 3 months. CIs are all uphill after they're pulled from the Cash Shop.
If you're looking for the best investment though, the Super Prize 2010 (which should be coming out soon) is your best bet. its time to buy is just before New Years, or before it leaves whichever comes second.
I might be missing a lot i'm kinda sleepy, so i'll hope you'll excuse me if this isn't really the answer you were looking for. ): just posting to make sure I remember to stay active, and your thread was the unlucky first victim lol.
