"I will take you up on that offer. Entirely, 100%. Without a doubt."

Apparently having heard Jerishude the first six times, the guard that the candidate was standing in front of waved the young man off and wasn't the least bit surprised to see him skip away. It was a lot of fun to go out and do random acts of violence for the guards, seeing as it was beneficial for everyone anyway, and he had to conceal his childish glee at being told he'd been cleared to go out.

Go out and break firelizard eggs that is, seeing as some people had seen several greens and golds flittering around lately. While some people couldn't handle the job since it was the destruction of innocent life, Jerishude found he didn't have much problem doing it. He didn't overly enjoy the action other than the fact it was a fun change from the normal, but he didn't shirk away either. Maybe there was something enjoyable about smashing eggs while chasing off a very angry (and sometime flaming) Gold.

"Okay then, what to wear and what to use. I hope I'm not the only one out there, not so much fun running around with no one to watch me."

Talking to himself brought no fun so he hurried and changed into something more suitable once he reached his room, a massive oar-like object gathered into his hands as he made his way out onto the rocks to find some eggs. It was time to get cracking.

Narenne was already perched on the rocks, waiting for whatever partner she was assigned. Given her druthers, she would not have been out smashing firelizard eggs. They were, undoubtedly, nuisances and they bred like no one's business, but she couldn't help feeling just a little bit bad for those unborn creatures. She'd seen a few that were very close to term before their eggs were crushed, and they'd looked almost exactly like miniature dragons. It went against everything in her upbringing to damage dragons.

On the other hand, destroying firelizard clutches meant that she got to climb around on the rocks and the heights, and she enjoyed that. There was that element of danger from a misplaced hand or foot which made it so much more interesting. Plus it meant she got to be outdoors and out of the kitchen.

Ren was not much help in the kitchens, but that seemed to be a favorite place to put her to work. Personally, she would rather have been recruited to help the tailors and weavers, but her sense of style was not appreciated there, as she'd been told at great volume last time. The only thing, she supposed, which could really make this unpleasant would be if she was assigned a bad partner to work with. Someone like...s**t.

She looked down and saw a young man with a bludgeon in his hands making his way onto the rocks. Not him. Please not him. He was such a strange, uncomfortable person. Not to mention unpleasant and freakishly immune to her charms. Ren found very little to like in Jerishude, and barely managed to stifle a groan when she realized that they would probably be working together for this shift.

Jerishude was halfway out onto the rocks when he noticed a certain female sitting amongst them, bringing a massive smile to his lips. His eyes widened a bit to mirror his joyous expression as he recognized the fairly pretty (but clearly not his type) woman as a fellow White Candidate, leaving him to skip over to her side like a child running up to touching some eggs.

"Why if it isn't Ren~ How are you doing on this fine and lovely day?"

He moved the oar-like object to rest on his shoulder as he paused in front of his obvious partner in crime, downright delighted that he was paired up with a woman. He loved the looks on the faces of girls as they smashed the eggs, not to mention he loved watching them cry. People crying in general was like winning an awesome prize to Jerishude.

"I take it by your presence that you're here to assist with the firelizard population control?"

Ren plastered a smile on her face that was so obviously false she would have been ashamed to lay claim to it if she'd been dealing with anyone else, but Jerishude was a special case. He seemed to take entirely too much pleasure in making people uncomfortable, and so she saw no reason to please him by pretending she enjoyed his company. There wasn't really any reason to flirt with him - he really wasn't her type.

"Jerishude," she cooed mockingly. "I'm fine. And my day has just gotten so much better now that you're part of it."

It was immature, she knew. She was twenty three turns, and he was significantly younger, but he gave the impression of being older, which made her more inclined to treat him as though he was her own age. Or, rather, his youth seemed to give her freedom to indulge in being immature as she felt like being. And he did tend to bring out the worst in her.

"That's the general idea." She didn't off her him any further conversational gambits except to say, "So, shall we get started?"

Jerishude's eye twitched slightly at the clearly mocking tone that escaped from Ren's mouth. It made him laugh on the inside to know that she was uncomfortable around him with just his presence. Bragging rights, anyone?

"But of course~ Would you like to take the first hit? A gentleman always allows a lady to go first."

It was likely that Jerishude was all too aware of Ren's obvious dislike of him. He could acknowledge that she pretty and had boys fawning over her like flies on wherry dung but she just wasn't Jerishude's type. Not that he had a type at all according to the gossip that a few people were trying to spread around.

"I don't see any tools with you though, are you wanting to use mine? A strong girl like you should have no problem swinging it to smash small, innocent eggs."

Ren saw Jerishude's eye twitch and she wondered what she'd done to provoke that. It made him seem even creepier than usual. It was hard to remember that he was actually her age. She frequently got confused by the way he acted. Sometimes his behavior made her think of him as barely pubescent, and other times his levels of oddness definitely pushed him into his twenties, because no one in their teens could possibly be self-confident enough to be so ooky.

"How about we find some eggs, first, Jeri?" Ren suggested. "I've always found that tends to be the most effective way of doing things, though if you've determined a way to get the eggs to come to you, I'd love to see it."

Actually, she would rather not have anything to do with this weird, uncomfortable person. Basically everything about him made her feel sullied and unusual. There had to be something wrong with his brain. She didn't doubt the dragons could sense it, and that was why he'd failed to Impress so far, and would only ever stand any chance of Impression with a white. She hoped he never managed it. The idea of him with a near-feral dragon at his beck was horrifying.

"I have tools. I just don't feel the need to compensate for size deficiencies in other areas by carrying around a big stick." She slid a small rock hammer from her belt and held it up to show him. "See?"

Jerishude visibly winced at the nickname that Narenne felt so kind to bestow upon him, but as soon as the shudder happened it quickly dissipated. There was no reason for her to get joy out of the fact that he really didn't like having his name shortened into something other than a proper honorific (not that he expected that to ever happen).

Ignoring the snide remarks that Ren was tossing his way he started to walk along, only glancing back at his partner when she said that she had a tool of her own to use. This he had to see...where did she pull that out from?

"I'd almost venture to say I'm curious where you had that hidden, but seeing as it came from your nether regions I'm inclined to keep my wondering to myself."

With that he turned his head back and started off towards the rocks and then - there! A gold flitter was hovering around a sparce area of vegetation, and Jerishude raised the oar to his shoulder.

"Ladies first."

"Don't wonder about my nether regions. You won't be getting anywhere near them."

Given her preferences, it was unlikely any man would, unless she Impressed and his dragon flew hers - or vice versa, she supposed. The idea of having a man between her legs wasn't repugnant, but it also wasn't interesting, and it certainly wasn't arousing. Men were just not her cup of tea. A little too solid around the chest and a lot too thick around the waist. Ren preferred her girls to have grabbable asses.

She noticed the shimmer of gold and watched Jerishude lift his bludgeoning tool. She was not enthusiastic about this particular task. Not at all. But at the same time she would be damned if she would be sick in front of him. It was just firelizards, after all, and they weren't good for anything. Nuisances, every one. She nodded curtly and crept closer.

"Keep the mother from taking my face off, will you?" she said as she held her little rock hammer at the ready and moved toward where the clutch might be laid.

"S'easy enough."

Jerishude took a deep breath before he raised the oar up and off his shoulders, the motion quite fluid as he swung it and the end made contact with the golden flitter. Apparently the queen had been too distracted looking at her eggs to notice the fact that something was coming her way and the sound of impact was a sickening thud. The little creature gave a shriek before jumping between. If she were lucky she wouldn't come back out.

"Alrighty then, there you go."

Of course as soon as he'd spoken the queen darted back out from [i[between, this time followed by what looked to be a bronze and a brown. Jerishude frowned since it meant there was a nest that had been allowed to hatch somewhere, but he smiled on the inside because he got to hit things more.

"You go at it, I'll stay here and get in some swinging practice. Let's see who gets done first, shall we?"

Inside Narenne cringed when she realized how Jerishude intended to keep the adult firelizards from attacking her. He was a sick, sick person and she hoped to anything he never Impressed. She couldn't imagine the sort of dragon which would choose someone as freaky as him for a lifemate. Though, perhaps she could understand the dragon's choice if there was no one else on the sands or in the stands and the only other option was to go between. Maybe. In truth, Ren had always approved of dragonets' high standards, despite the sadness every time one chose death over Impression.

The sickening sound of impact as Ren bent over the depression where she thought eggs might be hidden and began to shift sand out of the way to reveal - lo and behold! - eggs. She was just reaching in to see how far along they were when she saw the gold leap between from the corner of her eye. It was all she could do to keep from actually being ill at hearing that sound. She had never realized how horrifyingly unpleasant that particular noise was.

Unfortunately, the shells of the eggs she'd found weren't hard yet, which meant that simply cracking them with her little rock hammer wouldn't do much. She'd have to cut them open, which had a much higher chance of being fatal to the babies, and wouldn't provoke the mental image of squashing them, which she really didn't need, but it did mean taking a more personal approach to the destruction. Her stomach flip-flopped as she replaced her rock hammer with a knife.

"Please don't kill them," she said weakly. She hated to show that kind of reaction to Jerishude, but she didn't think she'd be able to hold down breakfast if she had to hear - or see - another impact like that last one. "Just...keep them at bay. I'll work quickly."
