So here in Michigan we do this thing for marching band, and just regular band where we play and get rated from one being teh highest and then the lower the number the worse grade it is for your band.
So any other states do this?

I'm very sure we do this. I'm never sure when it is though. sweatdrop that's neat we're doing it i think in late february or early march

I think most schools do this in some way, shape, or form, whether it be the I-V rating system or by points.
I'm from California. In marching band, we usually do the Western Band Assocation (although there are lots of circuit options in California, depending on your region and travel costs).
For festival, we do the California Music Educators' Association festivals, usually two of those I think. We also have a festival our district puts on, and we go to a local CSU's annual festival.
For jazz band, we just go to random places. Usually we go to festivals that have amazing guest artists or judges. Like, our last festival, we got to see Kurt Elling. =D
Our percussion and guard compete in a local circuit, although the guard also competes in WGI power regionals sometimes.

Yeah we do that sort of thing. I'm from southern California and our school competes in the SCSBOA festival. It's usually held somewhere close like San Bernardino. For jazz band, however, it really all depends on whatever random place we go each year.

My school hasn't been in a few years though, due to other scheduled things or surgeries for the director... >>
