Name: Kellon
Age: 15
Gender: Female
History: Born to a wherguard and a (at the time) Healer, Kellon's background does not seem to warrant her constant bad mood at first glance. Though her parents split up shortly before she was born, she still grew up to know both of them quite well. As an only child, it is often the case that said only child is extremely coddled and looked after. However, Kellon was a grump from the very beginning, and was extremely fussy even as a young infant. Growing up, she was hardly the most pleasant little girl and her poor mother, who had never been of a particularly strong constitution, was hardly well-suited to raise someone who took every opportunity to be downright miserable.
Once her mother unexpectedly Impressed to a purple dragon, things got more complicated for Kellon. She began to be shuffled around an incessant amount, from her mother back to her father and then again, and it caused an already grumpy little girl to grow even more grumpy. As she grew and began to understand the situation more, feelings of being unwanted began to sneak into her heart. Father had his wher and his whergaurd duties, mother had her dragon and rider training to think of. Though both parents definitely spent time with their daughter, it's a bit off-putting to feel like a trading card that's constantly swapping between the same hands. Rather than her ill nature fading away with age, it only intensified.
Kellon never could find any common ground with the cheery, timid woman that is her mother. Though she loves her mother, the two shared very few “teehee mother-daughter time!” moments while the girl grew up. Instead, from Kellon's perspective, her mother seemed to spend all of her time with the idiotic lump of a purple dragon that had Impressed to her. It was often that Kellon was left to “play nice with the other children” while her mother skipped off to train more with her dragon. The girl found a little more in common with her father and his wherguard buddies, but similarly he had things he had to do as well.
When she had aged some, Kellon began to Stand for the various clutches that were laid upon the sands. An odd choice, perhaps, especially for someone who seems to genuinely dislike the company of others. However, the girl grew up observing the tight bond her mother and her dragon had. She wants to feel wanted, even with all of her faults and temperament, and knows a dragon would fulfill that. As much as she dislikes people company, a dragon who understands her wouldn't be quite so annoying.
Appearance: What with her grumpy attitude and nearly perpetual scowl, Kellon certainly has the potential to be an imposing sort of figure - or at least she could be, if it weren't for her small stature. Standing at just barely five feet, she's still scrawny and gangly in her adolescence, with neither hips or bust to boast about. Slender, but not in an effeminate sort of way, and it mostly makes her grumpiness more comical than intimidating. Her complexion is pale, contrasting starkly with her black, gently wavy hair. She typically keeps it long, reaching down to her mid-back, and it’s nearly always tied back in a braid. Though her features are small and simple, the planes of her face are angular and sharp, contradicting her otherwise frail appearance and contributing to her nearly-constant look of sourness. Overall, she looks like one of those pale creepy corner stalkers.
Kellon doesn’t give much thought to her wardrobe, which is just as well. When she has the choice, she seems to prefer lighter colors: whites, light grays, tans. Perhaps it has some unconscious appeal in that it balances out her less-bright personality, or maybe she just fancies the way it contrasts with the darkness of her hair. In any event, she’s as likely to wear skirts as pants, and anything comfortable is fair game.
Personality: Despite her youth, Kellon is a notorious, brooding grouch whose dreadful bedside manner can be bested only by the grumpiest of old men. She does not typically enjoy being around people, especially younger people. Apart from Candidate duties and jobs, she does not socialize much, and her less-than-friendly attitude only helps in that respect. That's not to say, though, that she goes out of her way to be mean or antagonistic - although she's quite capable given the right catalyst, namely someone whose company, for one reason or another, she finds particularly grating. In all honesty, she is simply one of those people who is rarely in a good mood, and has neither the inclination nor the patience to put up any sort of front to the contrary.
Aside from her stormy disposition, Kellon also has a reputation for being frank and straight-forward. She's frequently callous and unflinchingly blunt, and doesn't seem to be capable of even the occasional subtlety. She tends to be very concise and to-the-point, efficient in conversation as she is in almost everything else. She isn't afraid to step on any toes, and it doesn't usually cross her mind to refrain from saying something to spare someone else's feelings, although in her mind she doesn't perceive these habits as bold or tactless. In actuality, she just doesn't give much thought to repercussions, because in her mind the consequences aren't particularly daunting. So maybe she gets lectured by her mom every now and then – so what?
On the other end, Kellon also seems to think that everyone else is as blunt as she is. She tends to deliberately take most everything at face-value, and she can be very literal. Unless she consciously makes an effort to be perceptive, which she isn't often motivated enough to do, most jokes or allusions go right over her head. She doesn't do well with humor in general, in fact, and her own arsenal is limited almost exclusively to sarcasm - and even then, she doesn't always pick up on it coming from other people. It isn't so much that she's stupid, she just as an extremely large case of “don't give a damn.” She finds that it's easier not to spend the time or energy “over-thinking things” (as she would put it). It's easier to take things as they are, and to assume that the simplest explanation is always the correct one, and it doesn't bother her that as a result she might have quite a lot of potential that will likely remain untapped.
In addition, Kellon also likes to keep things as simple as possible whenever possible, and is really rather lazy. Oh, she'll do her chores if someone is watching, but they'll be done as quickly as possible and surely in a sub-par way. This only extends to actions that won't have an immediate positive outcome for her, however. Go to the kitchens and get a little snack to bring back? Right on! Go to the kitchens and fetch a pot of soup for the infirmary patients? Hey, she's not your slave! She's kind of selfish in that she doesn't see the point of helping people. She won't let a person drown in front of her because she's too lazy to swim to them, or anything drastic like that, but the fact that she's sometimes expected to perform boring and tedious tasks because some fancy-to-do guy can't do them himself is mind-boggling. She'll do it, but she won't be happy, but that's nothing new.
Is this character being trained as a 'White Candidate'? Naw.
Other: Linnea of Purple Purkleth is her mother, and they're also my characters so IT'S ALL GOOD.
