Without getting into any sort of discussion on religion, I think everyone could agree that christmas is a nondenominational holiday now. The Japanese celebrate it just because, as do many other cultures where the majority of people are not Christian. Here in the US, people who were born without any kind of religion celebrate, and even some jews have christmas trees.

That's why I differentiate between the secular X-Mas and the religious Christmas. I could easily be satisfied with how things were, if it weren't for Christian fundamentalists that their like insisting on "Keeping the Christ in Christmas" and family members deciding that proselytizing little sermons, no matter how many don't share the speaker's beliefs.
There's nothing much you can do about it. In their view, this is a holy day that has been lost to marketing ploys. I think people who insist on preaching about "keeping the christ in christmas" forget that though the religious symbolism is lost on the public, the giving spirit has not. Christianity isn't supposed to be about making everyone Christian anymore, but I think they've forgotten.

Why should Christians not follow Matthew 28:19?

I disagree with Titaniana. I don't believe that Christian teach that Christmas is a time for evangalazation. At least, I don't feel that that's what the Roman Catholic church teaches. Sure, Christmas is celebrated all over now. I think that it's because of the loving, peaceful feeling that appears at Christmas, that people love. Yes, Christmas has givin way to modern day marketing, but like it or not the bace of this hollliday is Christ. If you take Christ out of Christmas, what do you get? A holiday just about presents and candycanes? That's horrible. Sure, some people who aren't fully knowledgeable about the actually holliday might think that, but thats is not what it's about.

I'm not saying that Christians shouldnt follow that verse, Esiris. But, I don't think it possible to convert everyone. Some people are too strongly rooted in their believes to leave. God told us to speak the word of God to who ever will listen. Some people just don't listen.

No, it's not about candy canes and presents, at least not entirely. A secular Christmas (or X-Mas, as I, as well as many others chose to celebrate it) is about the spirit of giving, togetherness, unity, and family.
Granted, as usual, one of my in-laws didn't get the message and prattled on, almost endlessly with divisive (and almost comedically uninformed) talk about what he thinks is going on in politics (poor creature) but this is another issue, entirely.

The Christians beat you to it already. Their "War on Christmas" bullshit is what takes the Christ out of Christmas. Rather than using this time associated to incarnation of Christ as a time for reflection on what this mystery teaches, they would rather use this time to ironically assert cultural superiority over others.

Oh for those that don't know X is the Greek letter Chi, an abbreviation of Christ. X-mas coined by monks as shorthand way to write Christmas and save on ink and valuable parchment.

I wasn't aware of that. You're quite well informed.
