"If he flies again." Roka chuckled and drummed her fingers on the hide. Her legs were crossed, signaling she had shifted out of "work mode", be it consciously or subconsciously. The slouching only made her look more like one casual friend talking to another.
A wher outside howled and she wondered how anyone could work on this island and stay sane. "The first few times I talked to him, I thought it was because he was the only woman-loving male on the sands he got that dragon, and if it weren't for Xanthoth, I'd wonder about that." She wondered a lot of unprofessional things about B'lin and some of those bronzeriders back there. "He didn't even have to listen when you were his Weyrlingmaster. A lot of us heard about what happened during that lesson. That's not something you forget, watching some nervous wreck of a Holder get a bronze then defy the Weyrlingmaster the very first class. He was pretty dismissive when I asked him about it, but word has a way of getting around on its own."
Not unlike greenriders, she was tempted to add, just to annoy him.

F'sey twitched. Visibly.
"Yes, yes, the entirety of Pern has heard about that lesson by now," he replied dismissively, flapping a hand as though he could usher the topic out the door. "Made a good story, it did. Made the boy a sharding hero." Stupid idiot, that boy. But still, there was something to be said for courage, and sticking to your guns. It didn't happen often enough anymore.
"I think we digress, Roka. Where are we trying to go? I've told you what I think about him. We only keep reaffirming the fact that I-" No, he couldn't admit to admiring one of his students, especially the one afraid to get back on his dragon. That just wouldn't do! "-that I think he'll be a fine Wingleader. I think J'aro just needs to exercise some patience. After all, why does he need B'lin right now? Thread isn't Falling, unless things have changed since I've taken up residence in this lovely cell. You wouldn't believe the fascinating company I've met."

"Don't get dramatic," she scolded. Roka had a way of making the oldest men feel like children when she used that tone. "Not everyone in the Weyr cared. My point is, you can't argue he does this out of an obligation to listen to you when he's already proven himself capable of going against you."
She stood up, stuffed the hide in her bag and hauled it over her shoulder. "I'll admit--" (If she had to.) "--that I might be wrong and he's changed in the past... how long as it been? Two or three sevendays? Yes, it's possible he's taken some kind of drastic personality shift in that little time, so I'll talk to him. About you. I was just debating if I wanted to discuss some of your other problems or not, but I get the feeling you're not going anywhere, so I have time for that later."

"Ah, what good news! I was really hoping they'd let me stay here," F'sey prattled on, growing more and more aggravated with every turn the conversation took. "I'm sorry I can't be more interesting, every seems to say that."
Rolling his eyes, the redhead retreated to the back end of his jail cell. "Good day, Roka."
He was going to throttle J'aro when he got out of here.
