"You know," Touma stated, moving up behind Dreamer. "that really is not going to do much when compared to what he is fighting. In the end most of this city is dead. Why bother to help them when they don't remember us or the goddesses?" If nothing else, he could distract though he was quite certain Valkon had everything he needed to accomplish the destruction. And he was entirely sure that this place deserved its fate.

Dreamer heard the words behind her. Without bothering to look at the winged ghostling behind her, Dreamer said, "I don't expect him to defeat the dragon. I just want to keep him alive for now. He amuses me."

Not hearing a biting retort, Dreamer looked back to see the ghostling effortlessly cutting through a rope that had found it's way around his middle. Having lost interest in Dreamer, the ghostling floated away.

These creatures seemed to have the attention spans of children. The dragon seemed to have also lost interest in the meager mortals flailing at him. He was back to flaming and dismantling the ships in the harbor. Dreamer dropped her protective aura as the dragon lit the Morgan up like a torch.

That won't be good, thought Dreamer. Dreamer remembered the ship belonging to Sarah's father. If the girl hadn't been crushed under one of the demolished warehouses as she was sneaking around them, she'd still be trying to get to her father's ship.

-----

Sarah had managed to get past the warehouses before the dragon crushed them. With the dragon's attention elsewhere, or so she thought, Sarah dodged across the wharf and onto the pier by her father's ship. Before she could run up the gangplank, the Morgan exploded into flames in front of her. The force of the inferno knocked Sarah off her feet.

Shaking her head to clear her senses, Sarah looked up to see the dragon making his way from ship to ship leaving destruction in his wake. Looking back at her father's ship, Sarah knew there was no boarding it now. If her father had been on the ship, she couldn't help him. She had to hope that he was out on the wharf somewhere among the mob of men trying to cease this fiery rampage of the dragon.

This time she noted where the dragon was, got to her feet and ran for her life. There was nothing more she could do here on the docks that sailors and guards weren't already doing. Sarah ran back the way she'd come and kept running until she got to the Square.

Touma grinned. Maybe the fellow would remain alive and maybe not. He could be quite useful as a ghostling too. He was almost tempted to get out some marshmallows and roast them as he watched the ships burn.

Valkon ignored the water, but moved towards the sea. Flying up into the air, he suddenly plopped down directly into the water. A huge wave came across and over the docks, wiping people from their feet and soaking the ghostling that was trying to soak him.

For good measure he roared as loud as he could as he clambered back out onto the docks. Moving forwards, he wiped out the small warehouse still standing. It crumbled like a house of straw would have in a windstorm.

His feet left deep clawmarks in the ground as he moved towards the next area of ships. Turning his head towards town for a moment, he could see the murder of crows and other birds circling upwards and then diving low. He was sure that they were doing some damage.

And they were. They pelted the people in the square with their wings or grabbed hold of their hair in their feet before moving back into the sky. Panic blossomed in the area and those normally there began to take shelter beneath the clocktower. Strangely the birds did not follow them there and some breathed a sigh of relief as they moved inside where they were sure they were safer.

Valkon moved quickly forwards, jumping up into the air and landing in the center of the Wanderer. His breath set the sails on fire as the ship began to sink. Moving onto the docks again, the dragon's claws dug deeply into the planks, breaking them in half. His breath flamed outwards again, catching the sails of the Kestrel on fire. The sailors began to dive off the ship into the water trying to get to shore before the dragon saw them.

Winchester growled orders at others who were trying to help. Nothing they did seemed to phaze this creature. He was not even sure it was a true dragon except it looked like one, breathed fire like one, though oddly seemed immune to the water. It was.. odd. That was all he could think of to describe it. Distracted, the sailor did not see the tail coming his direction. It hit him solidly knocking him up in the air. There was a sickening thud when the man landed and he lay unmoving.

As the Kestrel began to sink, Valkon made his way through the sailors trying to stop him, once more swiping them aside with either his tail or his feet. One or two were crushed. Seeing that caused some to simply run. There was no way to stop this creature and it seemed intent on destroying the entire docking area. Some had families and rushed to them, packing and hurrying to leave the area. Others, looked for the safety they could find in their basements or under their beds.

In another half hour, Valkon had destroyed the rest of the docking area leaving only one ship untouched. It was the Tempest. The captain had gotten the ship away from the docks and set sail while the dragon was distracted with the rest. His ship and men would remain intact and return when it was over to help repair. If there was anything left to repair.

As the last warehouse crumbled, Valkon stalked towards the town square. He would crush whatever was there and then move on to his next target. He bet the mayor was an unhappy man.

((Ghostling encounter for Cricket only. You did such a good job with Winchester, that I'm giving you the opportunity to catch his ghost. Don't worry, if you miss him, he will pop out again somewhere.))

Dreamer saw the fateful blow of the dragon's tail. She'd dropped her protection of the sailor too soon. The white spectral was disappointed that she would no longer be able to watch the interactions of Winchester and Sarah.

Dreamer floated down as Winchester's spirit arose from his smashed body. He reminded her of someone that had been long lost to her. She beckoned to him. Perhaps he would stay with her and ease her longing.

He looked lost for a moment, then saw his body laying on the dock, unmoving. Looking at Dreamer, he said, "I'm dead, aren't I?" Despite being posed as a question, he didn't seem to need an answer.

"Stay with me," Dreamer replied. "I can help you."

"I need to find her. She must not meet my fate." Winchester looked around, his deep blue eyes searching the chaos around them. "I must find her."

Dreamer watched him drift away. She felt a little sad that he hadn't stayed with her, but she hadn't really expected that he would. Dreamer didn't know whether she hoped he'd find the girl that ran from the burning ships or not. With the way the tide had turned tonight, Dreamer expected the girl would soon be joining them in the spirit world anyway.

Touma saw Valkon's tail drop downwards hard in the midst of the sailors. For a moment he watched them, then he said, "I guess he zigged when he should have zagged." His lips turned upwards as the dragon moved towards the town square. It took him only a few moments to get there.

The crows were already wreaking havoc on those people having lunch. Touma settled on a ledge of the clocktower to watch. It was the one safe place to be in this area. Some had figured that out and gone up the stairs. Only a few.

Peeking around, he saw the girl he had spoken to that day. She was urging people into the tower for their safety. She had said she lived in the forest, but he had not gotten her name. It had not seemed important that day.

She urged them into the tower. "Keep climbing. Hurry. You will be safe here." The fruit she was bringing to the market lay forgotten as the sky filled with smoke and she could hear the roaring of some creature taking its ire out on the docks. Nia had been tempted to look but instead was trying to urge people to safety as the crows continued attacking.

Sorry my dates/times are all confused didn't realize this section ended already. sweatdrop

The charm dragon sisters had been set to relax their day away when the screaming began. Both tried to have as little as possible to do with humans especially during daylight hours, their speciality was working by moonlight. The allowed the noise to become random background as they dozed on a rooftop.

When the scent of smoke began to reach them however they could ignore things no longer. Tygress and Hazalinia woke together and exchanged a glance before taking to their feathered wings.

Tygress hovered clutching her hands to her chest at the sight of the dragon setting fire to the docks. "Oh no... what can we do?" she asked her heart sinking. So much was destroyed and the dragon proceeded ignoring any attempts at distraction.

Haze flew back and forth a low growl of frustration escaping her. She didn't want to feel bad for ignoring the initial cries of fear but knew that guilt would haunt them both. Although Tygress was the elder of the two it was Hazalinia that took charge of the situation. "Look there's people taking shelter in the clocktower, maybe you can help out there. Since the dragon seems to be focused on moving on, I'm going to see if there's anyone or anything that can be salvaged from what he's left behind." It seemed hopeless right then to try anything against the dragon, but those who survived this would need to rebuild and whatever could be saved would aid in that.

Tygress nodded. Her own gifts ran toward empathy therefore she might be able to lend some strength and comfort to those seeking shelter. She only hoped it would remain a shelter...

"Stop thinking like that and fly, sis," Hazalinia growled before she began her flight toward the docks.

((after much fear and debate thought I'd try to jump in with something.))

(( OOC Everyone may continue until the sign on the title says "Closed". And don't be afraid about jumping in. You CANNOT mess anything up. The dragon is doing that. XD And I editted your post, Tygress, so feel free to continue. ))

Valkon noted the ghostlings coming out. He ignored them, but saw there were more here than he had thought. No matter. They did not understand what they were up against. Yet.

He walked around the circle stomping the flowers and crushing the benches. The fountain was smashed, the stone crumbling letting the water escape. His feet raked away the debris, tossing it as meaningless junk would be tossed into a garbage pile.

Then he stopped, watching the clocktower for a long moment. It was one of the places those there would find safety. He roared loudly, but then turned carefully away, moving towards the town hall of all places.

The mayor stood staring as he watched the creature stand up, his head towering over the building.

"Mr. Mayor! Mr. Mayor!" the guard at the door called. "We have to get out of here! Now, sir!" When he got no response but saw that Mayor Thimbleditz was transfixed by what he saw, the man winced. Running over he grabbed him by the arm, jerking him around hard. "Sir, we have to get out of here!"

"Yes... yes of course..." the man replied, allowing himself to be pulled away from the window. He barely had time to glance back as he reached the door before the ceiling where he had been standing caved in. He and the guard ran as quickly as they could down the stairs until they reach the bottom.

Pieces of the ceiling caved in as Valkon began destroying the stone exterior of the building. The town hall began to crumble in on itself as the dragon did not hesitate. There was enough distance between the clocktower and the town hall that the tower was in no danger of being touched, but the people inside stared in wonder from the windows. They crowded around as they watched their town hall being torn down.

"First the docks, then the square. Now the town hall. What does this creature want?" one asked softly. "He left the clocktower alone as if it had special meaning. That's just odd."

Nia was still urging people up to the upper floor. "Please go all the way to the top. You will be safe here."

"How do you know? He may still destroy us." one man replied.

"I do not think so. I.. spoke to a ghost a few days ago. I realize now he was warning me about something coming. He said there were three places that were safe. The clocktower, the park, the temple of the goddesses."

"And you told noone?"

"Who would have believed me? I had no proof. Only the word of a ghostling." she replied. "He seemed almost sad somehow. But he told me I would be safe in any of those places. That means you will too. Eventually the dragon will go away and we will have a chance to see what needs done then. Until then, everyone cliimb as high as you can so that there is room for everyone."

They watched the girl for a long moment, then many began to slowly climb all the way to the top floor. Strangely some began to look around at the inside, running their hands along the smooth wood.

"I never realized this place was like this inside," one lady commented as she climbed upwards. "The wood is very pretty."

Nia sighed as she watched the people. Shaking her head, she directed more to come that were running from the town hall. Catching a glimpse of the mayor and someone else running away, she sighed again. Hopefully he would get to safety. He was too far away to hear her yells to come there.

The mayor and the people with him continued to run. He headed directly for his house, putting out guards and telling them to make sure his property was not injured. Then he went to his study to try to figure out what to do. Pouring himself a drink or two, the man simply sat down, shaking in fear. What had brought this creature down on them? He had no clue. Or did he?

Valkon continued crushing the town hall taking all the levels down to the ground. He slammed his tail against the portions he could not reach with his feet. They broke falling, smashing the floors below. The once beautiful carved stone was broken into pieces that shattered even more once they hit the ground. Few would recognize it ever again.

Nia and the others inside the clocktower simply watched as the dragon continued its tirade. Few said anything other than hushed whispers of fear as much as awe at the strength the creature had. A couple even asked why this was happening, but none had a reply.

Touma continued to sit on the ledge of the clocktower. Several noted him but wondered why he did not help them. When they called to him, he simply ignored them and laughed all the harder at what was happening. At least the clocktower was safe for those inside. Every now and then more would enter, but many were running away from the city to save themselves.

When he was finished, Valkon roared several more times. His tail lashed about as he looked about trying to decide which direction to go next. He walked over to the clocktower, roaring loudly at those looking out the windows. Then he carefully stepped around the building, making certain his tail would not hit the building. When his decision was made, he smirked at Touma.

There was more to be destroyed.

((OOC This portion of the metaplot is finished. The next portion will start on January 10, in the new thread. It will be played the same way.

Synopsis: The docks, warehouses, town hall and town square are in ruins. The dockmaster, Captain Jamison, and Winchester have been killed. The clocktower is the only safe place at present.

Stay tuned. More destruction and havoc to come unless Valkon can be stopped. ))
