Greetings and Salutations everyone!
I've come across several different threads including, (Favorite character, best male character, best female character) so on and so forth. I've enjoyed those posts, but thought I take it a step further. And have decided to present...
The ULTIMATE FINAL FANTASY PARTY!
Here's the scenario, you must put together the greatest, most elite party members from any Final Fantasy, to create your Dream Team. Here are the rules...
1. Party of 8- Your party will consist of 8 characters, 4 main characters, and 4 alternates
2. Only playable characters- Saying you want a party of Rude, Kadaj, and Kefka is out of the question, only characters which were actually in your party and that You Had Control Of. For example, in FFVIII you were able to have Sorceress Edea in your party, all be it for a short time, and she was controllable by you when she was in your party, so she would be acceptable. Sephiroth from VII though he was in your party during the flash back scene was controlled by the computer, so sorry Sephiroth fan base, he is ruled out. (Dissidia does not count in this.)
3. List party Role- Every Final Fantasy has a main character, a healer, magic damage dealer, tank, ect. ect. So if you make a party which has both Cloud and Zidane for example, only one can be the main hero/character, so you must choose who would be the main hero, and who would fall back to Warrior or Thief role. And keep the party role true to the character. Meaning don't make Lu Lu your main warrior, or Summoner/White Mage Yuna your Dragoon.
4. Only 1 MMO Final Fantasy Character- Some would call it cheating, but Final Fantasy XI and XIV are still titles in the FF series. If you wish to include your character as part of your party of 8 you may, but Your character only, and only one MMO character. So you cannot make a party with only members of your Linkshell, or have the whole team be all of your characters from FF XI and XIV, you are limited to just one of your characters if you have one. So if you have multiple characters that you would like to use, choose wisely.
5.Only one represntation of a character can be used.- Example of this is if you wanted to use Yuna FFX and Yuna FFX-2 in your party. No cloning of characters, you can only use Yuna once even though she has been in multiple FF games.
The Rest is up to you. Choose who you think would make for the best, and your personal dream team.

Well, I thought about it for about a minute or two, and I instantly thought of this team.
Main Party Hero: Cecil Harvey (IV) White Mage/Summoner: Yuna (X) Black Mage: Terra Branford (VI) Thief: Rikku (X)
Alternate Party: Red Mage: Rydia (IV) Dragoon: Kain (IV) Monk: Tifa (VII) Mime: Bartz (V)
I would absolutely LOVE a game in which I could use this party.

Ha, my party would probably all consist of heavyhitters. [My choices are also restricted by the FF games I've played; I got in late with VII}
Black mage: Lightning Farron. Weird choice but she's got speed on her side and can deal physical damage with her elemental strike skills.
White mage: Yuna. She knows Holy, Auto-Life, Regen and Curaga. Plus she's adorable.
Warrior: Cloud. His Omnislash is one of my favorites, second only to Light's Army of One. Plus, like him or not, he's a beast with the right weapons/upgrades.
Sentinel/Dragoon/Saboteur: Oerba Yun Fang: I'm pretty sure she's the strongest character in any FF game. [Stat wise, you can get her strength past 3k, which crushes anything in earlier games.] And her Highwind limit is pretty much a dragoon's jump skill.
Alternate:
Lead/Warrior: Zidane: Love his swords, his native ability set and his weird tail.
Dragoon: Auron: Bad a**. Second only to Fang on my list. He's not as old-school as Steiner from IX, with a similar skill set {Armor Break etc} His Overdrive clears the whole screen if done correctly too.
Synergist/Green Mage/Time Mage: Tidus: Not to overuse FFXIII terminology, but Tidus' speed and Cheer abilities let him buff the whole party with Bravery and Hastega. It also makes him hard to classify, since in other FF games, he'd fall under green/time magic/mage.
White Mage: Hope Estheim: I don't really like any other white mages [Not even Garnet from IX] and Hope can keep up with both party's obscenely high HP totals. [If both Auron and Tidus have on a Genji Bracer and a Genji Shield they can match and exceed Hope's natural HP. Same for Yuna. Cloud and Zidane are the only ones left out]

Interesting selections so far. I've spent some time thinking about it, and here's what I've decided.
MAIN PARTY
Leader- Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics: Dark Knight/Squire)- For a Heretic Ramza has shown incredible fortitude and drive against adversity and under the worst of situations can rally his friends and party members even when everyone is out to get them. From War of the Lions I had Ramza as Dark Knight first, Squire sub, Gave him double weapons ability and euqipped him with both Excalibur a Save the Queen. The power of the Dark Knight Class along with the extra mettle abilities his version of Squire has including Shout, chant, steel, and even Ultima just made Ramza a Beast in battle, really tough heavy hitter, but a good leader against adversity.
Beatrix (Final Fantasy IX: Paladin)- According to Final Fantasy Wiki Beatrix's official job class is Paladin, what makes her the perfect choice for being my tank is how powerful an attacker she also is. Where most Paladins lack strength for defense, Beatrix has all the abilities a successful Pld would need, and the Strength to deal lethal damage on the level of an Auron. This was made apparent when she defeats your whole party not once, not twice, but three times. Strong physical attack to make a good one/two punch with Ramza, and can be the main tank.
Celes (Final Fantasy VI: Red Mage)- Instead of filling out my main party with a black and white mage, why not go both? Celes was a strong attacker, and her rune magic ability made her a really broken character in FFVI. Very strong and effective black and White magic makes her maybe not the best Whm or Blm in FF, but probably the best at wielding both at the same time. Throw in her physical strength as well and she is a solid, well rounded character just right for any situation.
Sazh (Final Fantasy XIII: Synergist)- While not the best gun wielder in Final Fantasy, he still provides me with a nice long ranged attacker for taking care of those pesky back row or flying mobs, but what makes Sazh extreamly effective is his role as synergist. Arguably the best Synergist in the game, he throws out party buffs so fast and effectively that he was an essential member of my main party in FFXIII in getting quick and effective 4-5 star battles. And how can you say no to a man with a cute baby Chocobo?
ALTERNATES
Quistis (Final Fantasy VIII: Blue Mage)- Not as effective with their magic as Red Mages, but blue mages still have a nice array of attack, healing, status effecting magic which have helped me out of a bind many times. My main party is overly powerful with it's physical attackers, and have a nice representation of magic wielding, but if a battle comes up where the enemies are strong in defense against physical attacks, she would be quite effective no matter what role she needs to be plugged in.
Cid Highwind (Final Fantasy VII: Dragoon)- Cid's have been a stable in Final Fantasy, Dragoons/Lancers are my favorite job class, Cid Highwind combines my favorite job class with the coolest Cid into one character, too hard to pass up. And even though Sazh is a pilot, Cid comes with his own airship which he uses to launch missals at the enemy. Pretty convenient and can be useful from time to time.
Yuna (Final Fantasy X: Summoner/Whm)- Though both Beatrix and Celes have white magic spells, sometimes you've got to have an all out powerful white mage for the serious healing if the party needs it, and a summoner is always a good addition to the party, making her another useful and effective offensive magic user. And she has of today has the best version of Bahamut I've seen in an FF game.
Basch (Final Fantasy XII: Warrior)- His loyalty is to be admired, a great fighter on the field, and has experience up the wazoo. Along with Beatrix's background on the field and in battle, it helps motivates the party knowing it has plenty of veteran experience. If Beatrix needs to focus on tanking, Celes on magic using, he would be a great additional damage dealer to bring in and deal good damage along side Ramza.
And that's my party.

Main Party: Leader: Freya Crescent Freya has the mindset of a leader and has overcome some seriously hard trials of her own. Even when she is devastated by something (like Fratley's amnesia), she picks herself up and refocuses on the task at hand. And unlike the vast majority or FF females, she less eye-candy and more realistic (personality-wise). Not to mention her Jump ability can be a life-saver in combat when dealing with enemies with party-wipe attacks, and a fully built-up Dragon Crest is something to be feared.
Mage: Vivi By far perhaps the most loved mage in all of Final Fantasy.
Tank: Zack Fair The underdog of the year, and one of the most awesome swordsmen. With access to various materias, he can tank it out and fill in as a back-up healer or back-up mage.
Healer/Summoner: Eiko Spunky, magnificent healer, access to Phoenix and Madeen and the anti-reflect ability to ensure her healing spells go to the party and not to the enemy? Yes please!
Backups:
Thief: Zidane Zidane can hold his own in a fight with his dual daggers, and stealing items from enemies which can then build up into a powerful Thievery attack is always a good thing to pack.
Tank: Steiner Clank, clank, clank, PRINCEEEESSSS?!?! =P Beside comic relief, his attacks hit for major damage, and when paired with Vivi, not much can truly survive a Flare Blade. And when tranced, his attack power increases drastically.
Misc: Red XII (Nanaki) Nanaki has always been my favorite FF7 character. Like Zack, he can fit any role depending on his materia spread. And no matter what anyone else says, he was infused with cells from Chuck Norris.
Another Tank/Healer: Squall Squall is another jack of all trades, depending on his equipped Guardian Forces and what magics he has drawn, stored and attributed to his stats.
