One of the many crater-like geysers was bubbling. The white part of a black and white face was lit up green as a young lion stared into it. His green eyes danced with the light from the eerie liquid. It fascinated him, to say the least, that the geysers glowed green in particular. Reaching his pale paw towards the water, Toshiro pondered if his paw would turn green. Maybe it WOULD... He stopped when he felt the heat, retracting his paw again. Well, at any rate, they could at least provide warmth... Standing, he looked around. As he'd grown, the young lion had become less absent-minded and was starting to see the world through the eyes of one wisening up with age. What he still didn't see was that hyenas and other large animals - Mostly hyenas, though - posed a threat to him still. He lived in a world where few dared to set paw or hoof lest they were about to die. Padding along, he looked around amid all the bones that made up his pride's domain, one silver ear - The only silver on his body besides his mane and tail - moving about for any sounds. Not like there were any, the only sounds that were usually around were dieing animals or bones shifting. He didn't quite realise that he was practically dancing on the invisible border between lion and hyena land, not realising the danger he was in by doing so. The one encounter with Mafa was a long-buried memory in his mind now.

The grim, shady colors of the graveyard were often reflected in that of the inhabitants living in the dieing lands. Monotone colors tended to gather, between the off-colored bones and the shadows of small cliffs, caves, ravines.. a broken land, so to speak, with little colorful life thriving within it.

The day had quickly blackened tonight, setting an even more shady cast across the graveyard. Only a few remained awake, perhaps some hyenas and other assortments of creatures. Two in particular roamed absentmindedly near the center of the area, one wandering near the geisers and the other following behind, like always. Runai found it his obligation to take and watch over his younger brother, despite that he was in fact the youngest of the pair. As usual, Rune had taken his time to catch up to Toshi, only showing as a splash of auburn running along through the bone-laiden territory-- an unfortunate drawback to his particular color.

Eventually, however, this young male did manage to catch sight of his sibling, quickly moving up to meet him. "Hey Toshi," He said lightly, gait coming to a slow stop several steps behind. "Y'know you really shouldn't get too close to those.. never know when a hyena'll come up behind you and just.." He began, moving quietly closer meanwhile before raising a paw and giving his brother a light shove in the direction of the glowing green substance, although not enough to really.. knock him into it.

Jumping in surprise, the older of the two princes turned and threw a glare at his brother. Indeed, looking at them, Runai would appear the older, being the bigger, but it was true, Toshiro was the older despite being slightly smaller. It wasn't much, but he WAS still smaller. Stumbling back a bit, he caught himself from falling into the geiser. "Well, at least I can blend in with the shadows should one of the smelly animals come after me." He sat down, giving his brother a dark look. He was starting to wisen up, that was certain. His hyperness of cubhood was ebbing away, giving way to a more mentally capable lion.

Rune couldn't help but laugh quietly at his younger brother, who had been forced offbalance by his mild little poke, however the glare had silently quieted this male down momentarily. However it wasn't long before he continued to speak.

"Psh. Something comes after me then all I say is bring it on. It's not my fault that I'm like this. I can blame that on our 'dear mother and father'," He snerked, putting an extreme sarcastic sort of edge to those last words, also giving a wave of his head. Psh. He couldn't care less.

"Y'never know," Rune continued, raising a paw and eyeing up the front bit on them, for some reason or another. "They might not be so bad. Or smelly. How would y'know if you've never really been around 'em..?" He questioned, quirking a brow. There was some truth to this statement.. all his life he'd been told of these so called hyenas.. however had only run into one. She seemed nasty.. but he didn't know her. How could you honestly judge something without knowing it to begin with..? "Besides. If they're as dodgy as everyone says.. they'd be useful around here. Guarding and keeping stupid things out of this place," He murmured, ears flicking forward.

The older brothe scowled at his browner brother. "You, face a HYENA? I'd like to see the day!" He climbed up a slight bone ridge, knocking some small bones aside, sending a rabbit's skull into a geiser.

He glanced back at Rune, a frown on his face. "I've seen few hyenas around here, maybe that one we met was the ONLY hyena around. For all we know, it could just be some ploy, a trick to keep us out of the inner Graveyard." He leapt down, walking over to a geiser. "I bet there's LOTS in there that they don't want us to see, so they told us there were HYENAS about to keep us out here."

Rune frowned, brows furrowing momentarily while a silent, deadly glare was shot towards Toshi. "Least I wouldn't turn tail and run the opposite direction. If y'kill whatever the threat is, it can't threaten anymore, can it? So heck why not," He stated blankly, relieving the rest of his comment with a shrug of his paint-splashed shoulders before taking another step or so forward, evening himself with the geiser. He couldn't help but repeat what his older brother had done and reach his paw towards the hot steam rising from the green-colored substance.

"Bet it is a ploy.. Never know if you haven't seen it for yourself. Besides.. bet there's lots of COOL stuff they're hiding in there.. caves.. hide-aways.." He began, inky black eyes glinting momentarily as they slowly crept along the surrounding terrain. He couldn't help but wonder.. that curious mind of his tended to churn often with ideas and iffy conclusions. "Why don't we go see it all, then..?" He questioned, intending on secretly doing just that anyway, even if his older brother didn't approve.

A new frown came to Toshiro's face. "But he who runs away today lives to see tomorrow, while he who faces danger may not be lucky to see the setting of the sun today." His tail flicked a bit, the silver glinting in the green light.

The older male looked into the inner graveyard far beyond. "Perhaps when the sun rises. Besides... Mother was saying something about us helping dig a stream from the waterhole to the Graveyard." He made a slight face at the prospect.

"Ah," Rune stated lightly, tilting his head. "But a threat can kill you anyday.. so you might run.. and you might be killed.. oooor.. you could run.. live and then be killed some other day! Brilliant, Tosh, just a genious idea," He mumbled, eyes rolling inwardly before continueing. "Sunrise..? Neh.. why not now..? C'mon.. it's always so much more fun at night.." he started, shifting his weight and allowing a sleek, subtle, knowing sort of o smirk hang across his muzzle. "Unless.. you're scared, of course.. You can always run back home to 'momma' and 'dadda'.." He stated, disregarding the idea of digging a stream into the graveyard. If something wanted water, it could just as easily walk up to the watering hole and get some.

Yes. It was his obligation to watch over and keep an eye on his little brother.. but it was also his duty to interrogate and shove him into sticky situations, along with pick and tease fun at. What a world, eh?

Toshiro stared at his brother, frowning a bit. "Okay, then... Live stupidly. I won't stick around." Turning, he started for home, ears twitching back. "I was gonna ask if you wanted to come with Nkechi and I in traveling around for a bit, but I changed my mind." He threw a scowl at Rune, following the path back up amid the bones.

"Psh. You? Leave this place..? I can understand Nkechi's reasoning in leaving.. I wouldn't blame her for not even coming back.. but you..?" Rune questioned his turning brother, who had already started walking away. "Thought you liked it here. Or are you curious about the other prides, too," He concluded, speaking his mind as always.

He often thought aloud, even if he'd not meant it. It was a habit at this point. "So where were you planning on traveling to..? Heard wind of the firekin.. nasty group they're supposed to be.. really into bloodlines and keeping that sort of thing clean.. pridelands.." He scowled at the thought of those last words. Too.. happy and green. Nothing to explore besides perhaps if you could survive after being run after by a hoard of elephants.
