I'm working on getting my degree in video game art atm, and I'm in a 3d modeling class. It's a beginners class, just the basics in Maya, modeling random things.

Here's the catch though:
1) My teacher is horrible and for the first half the the semester avoided me like the black plague. He wouldn't even answer my questions when my hand was up in the air.
2) No textbook.
3) No previous knowledge of the program. What. So. Ever.
4) Health problems with nerve damage reducing my hands to nothing but a numb mess for most of the semester.

Sad to say I fell behind rather quickly due to these problems so for the next week I'm trying my hardest to catch up on a semester's workpile. Atm, I'm working on a chest, a human chest. And I'm having the most difficult time with the damn boobs and trying to attach them to the damn body I made. Then I have to work backwards and finish my character hand (pretty much done), character head (almost kinda done), airplane (fml), car (I HATE THIS THING SO MUCH! ARGH!) and my blade (easy..... sorta). I did my background scene just fine because throwing together maps is amazing and fun. Trees I still have to work on.

So I'm sitting here tired and frustrated, going to skip out on another class because I'm not learning anything. But I'm doing my best. Finals are coming up but I'm probably not going to bother taking my finals for my two classes since I'm going to fail them anyways, might do it for shits and giggles but whatever. They were filler classes and will hurt my gpa but at this point in time I really don't care. Throw stones at me all you want. LOL

Next semester though I'm excited because even though I might have to retake this class if I don't finish my models, I will be cramming as many art classes as I can together. Animation, still life (lol saggy old men ahhhh!) and design/drawing classes.

:0 SO

STUFF.

omg and on top of all this I'm trying to catch up with my commission... stupid background lol

I've noticed my style has slowly been changing again and I'm really happy with this. I love it when my art style changes. :3 I'm also happy that my hands are getting their feeling back slowly. It makes typing so hard sometimes but meh.

This song is amazing. TRANCE DUBSTEP HYBRID.

Best of luck with all your work! /cheerleader mode YOU CAN DO IT!

I can totally relate to the horrible teacher bit, too. My astronomy professor was so horrible that there wasn't enough room for me to b***h on the prof evaluations I just filled out a couple of days ago.

I'm done with finals for this term and I'm fairly certain I failed my mythology class, despite putting in 20+ hours a week in work on it. Grades get released next Tuesday and I'm so nervous... More nervous/anxious than usual.

My plans for next term: MATH146 - Intro to Statistics @9AM, PHYS100 - Physics for Non Science Majors (retake) @11AM, PSYC220 - Abnormal Psychology @10AM. After this upcoming term, I'll be done at my current school and moving on to another one. :3

ergh, modelling can be a bloody b***h. I just started on Maya this year, though we weren't supposed to learn about organic models till next year. Our group decided to make raptors for our game.
Which meant Skeletons (third year)
Unwrapping (third year)
Animation (third year)

actually, overall, the entire maya class was supposed to be a third year thing. Our final assignment consisted of unwrapping a ferret model, making a moving skeleton for a mechanical joint with hydraulic pressure system parts, and making a mailbox.

That took 8 hours for us because we had such a rough time. XP

Exam tomorrow morning. Studied my a** off. Followed by 4 programming assignments for Animation due on the 14th. my job art is due on the 11th (i have two pages to go) I WAS a day a head until one of our group members (which we are booting this next semester) and that put us behind, because this assignment which took the span of two weeks we had to redo in TWELVE HOURS! FFFUUUUU
So we're a day behind. Exam tomorrow at 8... four others to go, and I'm going to go insane.
I can only hope I pass. ><;
Summerschool sucks.

Ugh next semester we are going to learn animation and rendering. I'm not confident enough in my abilities to make them move just yet. 3rd term we're learning Dynamics and Rendering.

I would sign up for winter classes but they don't have ANY of my classes... yay winter break! *waves little flag* That means 8 free weeks to prepare for next semester and work on my website.

I just hope I can get into animation for 2d next semester ON TOP OF all my other art classes. I hope the work load won't be CRAZY, I know it will be though. > 3 < UUUUUUUUUUGH!! I hope my hand doesn't go numb again!!

All I can suggest is that you find a cracked copy of maya. That's what I had to do. It's bloody expensive, but it's good practice to make stuff on your own.

"They made you model a human chest in your first 3-D class?o_O That seems pretty silly to me. My professor had me model objects in my frist 3-D class."

"I know how you feel though. 3-D animation= GAHHHHHHH. Its extremely difficult and made me cry alot lol. 3-D is DEFINETLY not my forte >___>;;; I don't work with Maya but if you need help ask me ^^ "

"Also, is Maya made by Autodesk? If it is and you are a student, you should be able to get it for free ^-^ I got 3DS Max for free that way. As long as I'm a student anyways lol"

Ya, I made a human chest... and to make it more socially awkward for him to grade I made it a female chest, that's for ignoring me all semester! HA.

I'm very scared about animation > 3 < ;; I kinda want to do 2-d before I jump into 3-d haha.

And dun worry I have Autodesk on my computer........ > _ > I got it for free.............. < ___ <

Max I have heard is really good but Maya apparently is fancier, not better, just fancier. A lot of students weren't pleased that we were only using maya but according to my friend in the entertainment industry all they use is maya so... I didn't throw a fit about it or anything. ^ u ^

Today for our final we had to replicate a room from a picture he gave us. I was happy because even though my hands were completely numb and cramped up, I managed to model more furniture than anyone else. HA. That's what happens when you take all week non-stop working on models XDD

I had a lot of fun too. I really like making backgrounds more than people... just easier for me. I just really wish I knew how to color and add texture. I'll have to figure that out over the break or something. > 3 <

" I know the game company in Pittsburgh where alot of professors work use maya. But they teach us 3DSMax x.x;;; it depends which company you work for I guess lol"

"The only thing that I can say about 3-D animation is its extremely time consuming and linking constraints will mess up alot of your animation and make you cry -referencing to me lawls-"

"I am more of a character designer. I didn't get a chance to rig/design a character since I dropped out of the class that was doing it, but t looks fun/hard as hell lol. Its easier to design chairs and stuff but it bores me xP I'd rather be a character concept artist ^-^"

"Coloring aand texturing is pretty easy. Just remember to ALWAYS save your UVS. They are extremely important. Alot of people forget to save them so they have to do their texture over again D:"

*jots that down in notebook*

:3

Basically what I'm shooting for is character design/concept artist. I'm not going to close all my doors though and I'll keep an open mind about animation and stuff, but I much rather sit there for hours stressing over how to map the character than the movement of said character. I know I'm going to screw up in the animation class so much. > 3 <

Aw man I really want to do backgrounds and world stuff though. = u = Ahhh <3 It's fun putting together rooms. :3

"Its better to have a job that you will have fun with than a job that you won't ^^ Also, be neat with your texture maps. Fill up as much of the box as you can." ((You'll see what I'm talking about when you learn about texturing.)) Texturing is pretty easy but character texturing is a little tougher since you are pretty much putt each piece of the character in half so you can texture them correctly >3>;"

"I'm hoping to like animating more but I don't think that I will xD;"
