When I was in 10'th grade we did a Frank Sinatra theme for Marching Band.
It was definitely one of the best times of my life that year.
We played Fly Me To The Moon, My Way, The Coffee Song, Forget To Remember, and Luck Be A Lady.
We did a ton of really cool moves while marching too lol
Also that year for Winter concert we played Star Wars music ;D
Was so awesome ;D Star Wars pwns <3

Last year our wind ensembled played a piece called Summer Unending by Jacob Narverud. I fell in love with that piece, as well as the piece used in our 2009 field show for our ballad, Aspen Jubilee by Ron Nelson. :3 the wind ensemble also played rocky point holiday, however i really didn't fall in love with that piece xD though it is nice to listen to once in awhile.
Another wonderful show that our 2008 marching band did (I was not in high school then) included cathedrial in a suitcase, minuano, letters from home, and first circle, all by the amazing Pat Metheny. Here's a link to the show if you're interested.
Everytime I watch it, it makes me regret that I wasn't born a year earlier xD

Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli.
Favorite. Piece. Ever. I can't remember when I've loved something so much.
Music wise.

I think the second was Fate of the Gods which I played in concert band when I was just starting out. I don't remember the composer.

There haven't been many others. But A Christmas Festival is always one of my favorites around the holiday season.

This year in our show, we played bits of The Death Hunt by Bernard Hermann. I think that is my all-time favorite second to Vesuvius. Especially the run that our director wrote for the woodwinds and trumpets.
Sick.

Bermuda Triangle: My first marching band show and we did really good with it. Plus, it sounds amazing.

Pilatus: Mountain of Dragons - My sister played it and now the concert band is playing it again two years later. I love it, it sounds amazinger than Bermuda Triangle.

@ Kavalnir: Fate of the Gods was composed by Steven Reineke, I'm pretty sure.

Rites of Tamburo! (: Speaks for itself?
Rhythm Danse - Richard Saucedo. I hated that piece, I could never finger fast enough. X'D
Etowah - Brian Balmages. I loved how dark and creepy it sounded and then it got fast. :'D
Minerva - Jan van der Roost. Because of spacing at band camp, 10ers had to play in a 11/12 band. It was torture.
Shepherd's Hey! - Percy Grainger. Again, with Minerva. I hated the really high chromatic at the end. Playing with cold fingers is no fun at all. :I
Brighton Beach - William P. Latham. It's so pretty!

Solas Ane by Samuel Hazo. By far my favorite piece I've ever played.
Granted, I'm an oboe and got to play in the beautiful quartet at the beginning AND the jig in the middle. But it was still my favorite.

Ballet Sacra, Ghost Train, Armenian Dances, so many more...and I've got another to add to the list! The Divine Comedy. =D We're playing it in our spring concert, and I just played the first movement for Shepherd Honor Band. I'm really excited for it.

I really liked playing "Route 66" the closer this last fall, probably because
1: It's fun to boogie to [a (too-oft overlooked) requirement in our pit]
2: Our parts were pretty killer
3: The director gave the trumpet solo to us only a few weeks before the first festival. m/ [ >3<] m/

I see that others have played Pirates of the Caribbean medlies, too. This will be the third year in a row that I've had to play one; the one this year just so happens to be a pain in the face for a lame-o with only four timpani.

I'm going to be playing Into the Storm this year, too.

American Faces by David Holsinger. I was the piccolo that year and the picc solo goes to the top of the piccs range... eek a.k.a. stab-me-in-the-ears-because-after-this-concert-i-wont-hear-anything

We always play amazing songs for regionals, and they always stick in my head. This year and last year are definately some of my favs, i cant wasit to hear this years full band, cause two of my fav songs are on the list^-^

-Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli(Honestly, anything Ticheli is love in my eyes)
-Chorale and Shaker dance by John Zdechlik(Its up there with American elegy and second suite in f on my fav sogns lsit. I love the simple gifts melody)
-Amazing Grace by Frnak Ticheli
-English Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams(Another of my fav composers. Vid not very good quality)

Songs I've played outside of regioanls that I <3
-Into the Light by Jay Bocook(Very pretty melody and clari solos! My third solo performed in front of an audience, well, not yet, but will be)
-Triumphant Spirit by I forgot(This vid is kinda crappy, but i cant find any others)
-Ontario Overture by I forgot(Give me a break, this was 4 years ago in 8th grade. First ever Solo in front of an audience. Gotta hold a special place in my heart)
-Sparks by also forgotten(Same concert as Ontario Overture. I've seen it on youtube before but currently cant find it)
-Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst(Holst is my second love. I'm cheating on Ticheli with him lol. I'm not gonna post this one cause it has 4 movements, all seperate vids. The link is to my favorite movement, #4. So wish I hadnt lsot my music to this)
-The Planets By Gustav Holst(Loooove. Fav is Jupiter, which is what is linked to this. I've played so many versions of it, but the original is my top fav. And this one holds a er...fond memory of my old bd blowing my music off the stand in the middle of a cocnert last year o-o)

All of these are on my mp3 player
