There are many different names for the Winter holidays: Yule, Winter Solstice, Saturnalia, Winternight, forgive me if I missed yours. Share with us what you celebrate and/or the reasons behind. Tell us about your holiday time. Do you participate in Christmas, etc. Discuss if you want, just be considerate of other's beliefs. The idea of this is to help us learn about each other, different beliefs and to show that the holiday season is celebrated by many different people.

The name for my holiday is Winter Solstice. During this time I celebrate the god Ra because he is linked to the sun and creation in Egyptian mythology. I do participate in Christmas for family reasons and because I want to raise my son to understand and to be tolerant of other religious practices.

I don't celebrate Christmas, though am often 'forced' into attending celebrations. (which I hate doing) I recognize Yule. I don't really celebrate, but I do pay respect and recognize it.

Winter Solstice is one of the big ones for me.
I was discussing this topic with a friend of mine last night because I was saying that it seems more so this year than previous years people just seem to be down right ignorant on the holidays. Ever since I joined this one online group, there is a select few members that seem to insist that if you are Pagan you celebrate Yule. It is really starting to annoy the rest of us who are not Yule pagans.

Well, the coven I joined only celebrates every other sabbat together. Personally, I don't feel the need to anymore. When I had first started on this path, I felt it necessary. Now, I realize that this is a continuous, ongoing cycle that has been going on since...well, since they've been around I guess lol. They seem happy enough that I recognize this cycle and pay respect to it. Ritual is something I do for myself now, mainly, when I feel the want/urge.

I rarely do rituals myself, I don't feel it is necessary. I do say blessings to the ancestors or deities during certain times of the year. All the groves or covens around here are doing big Yule celebrations and I think I'd rather just stay at home and do my own thing.
