[This is Halloween] A Spoonful of Agent God, how she loathed the Desert. Yet once again, there she was. The cockpit itself was less than comfortable for Devi, but at least it was better than outside in the blazing heat. This was for the Shield Liger, though, so she would have to endure. It wasn't as though she could just avoid the desert. It was a good thing that this time she'd decided to actually bring along some food, or else she would have most likely become incredibly miserable in the barren wasteland. And she wasn't prepared to put herself into that situation again.
The Liger's large feet trodded along, pushing harshly against the sand dunes with each step. Adorned in a long cape, the Zoid trudged through the sand in order to locate the person who had candy for it. It did not need pointed teeth, because it already had them. Now the front two teeth were painted an even brighter white in an attempt to make the Liger seem like a vampire. Of course, it wasn't as scary in the fierce light of the desert, but had it actually been dark around, then the effect might have been different. Soon, they came upon something other than the sand.
Even before she stepped out of the cockpit, Devi felt the heat attacking her body. She was apprehensive, to say the least. Might as well get this over with as quickly as possible. Then she could move onto another, less insanely hot, place. Seeing someone below the monstorous machine, she yelled, "Oi! Trick or treat!" Her arm waved to the man before she hopped down to see him. His grotesque form seemed to be fitting for the holiday season, yet Devi wondered if it was possible that this man actually lived out in the middle of the desert with a bunch of dead people. ...She decided not to ask.
Having gained her prize, Devi made her way back to the sanctuary of the cockpit in order to move on to the next trick-or-treat spot. "Thank you!" She'd almost forgotten to say, but as the Liger's cockpit closed, the girl called out to the already retreating figure. She had no idea if he'd heard her or not, but at least she'd said it. "Now, let's get out of here." She manipulated the Liger's controls and turned it 180 degrees. It felt like the desert would be that temperature soon, so she high-tailed it out of there. A Spoonful of Agent So the mountains are next... Devi thought to herself, still glad to be out of the desert. It was amazing to see all the different changes in the landscape as she made her way through each one -but of course, that could wait until after she'd done the Shield Liger's trick-or-treating. The pilot herself had been wearing a witch hat, but had taken it off while in the desert to avoid it getting in the way. There was a string attached to it, and it sat loosely on her back so she could grab it when she wanted to. Instead of putting it back on her head, she allowed it to rest between the seat and her back.
This seemed, by far, more annoying than the desert. But the Shield Liger could take it. The obnoxious cape would get in the way, and it could be the thing that brought them down. She was anxious to see whether or not this would present as much of a problem as the desert. Maybe it would, maybe it wouldn't. She was going to find out either way, so she headed straight for the temple in order to get it done. After this, there would only be two more places to go. Halfway done. But that was only _after_ she had the candy in her hands. The first one had been easy enough, other than the heat trying to kill her. She was even colder in the cockpit now, because of the sweat that had clung to her skin and her costume. Great.
How long was this going to take? Devi was going to obtain the candy for the Liger, that was for sure. The first candy was good, but have all four would be very, very good to have. They might be useful for something, and it seemed that the Liger liked them. Of course, it would be able to find out what they did when it was all over. Who knew how long that would be, though. At the moment, all Devi could do to help was keep moving the Zoid forward, toward the next place they could trick or treat.
---
The temple had seemed so amiable from a distance. But now that she saw it up close, Devi realized that there was something formidable about the large building, some sort of darkness that could only come from something that came out during Halloween. And she was heading straight for it. Smart move, Devi. With a sigh, she moved the controls again so that the Liger wouldn't stop walking. If it did, then she might be tempted to just leave. And the Zoid wouldn't be happy about that, not in the least. Whether it would stop her or not was a question only it knew the answer to.
At first, approaching the monk felt like a good idea. But the bird's fate almost made her leave. She did not want the same thing to happen to her. But because she was a pilot, and because she owed it to herself and her Shield Liger to do this, Devi came out of the safety of the cockpit to confront the pale-looking monk with pointed teeth. Her hand clutched the hat and slapped it back on top of her head, and her arms crossed after this was completed. "Trick or treat, sir." She was glad to see that she hadn't gotten the wrong place when he pulled out a piece of candy. What was it for...? She wondered.
Then, as suddenly as it had appeared, the little red object was gone. Now, it lay high up on top of a pillar. "You're serious." She spoke, almost not believing what she was going to have to do. He couldn't really get it back, so he probably meant what he said. "Fine, then. I'll get it." The Liger got a nod from its pilot. If she fell, then it was possible that she would die. And it would be on its own again. But if she succeeded, they could move on. The Zoid appeared to know that she'd gone through enough near-death experiences in her life that this wasn't that big of a problem. So, as its pilot began her ascent up the pillar, the Zoid stayed put and did not help.
Again, Devi had to adjust her hat so it wouldn't block her view. This was going to be almost impossible as it was, and the hat would just be a problem. With a few tears, it went from a bother to an asset. Luckily, the costume itself worked to her advantage. She wrapped the fabric around her hands. Luckily, the entire place looked old, and the pillar itself had a lot of holes that she could grip as she made her way up. She found herself making a spiral pattern up the pole, and having to go dowan a few times in order to get higher up. Altogether, it was a pain. Many times, she'd almost decided it wasn't worth it and almost gone back down. But in the end, she wanted it badly enough to keep going.
It took a long time to reach the top. An hour, at least, she thought. But that was because she was going slowly in order to keep herself from falling and the imminent death that was sure to follow. When she did make it to the top of the huge pillar, she could not help but revel in her glory for a few moments. But she couldn't keep it up for long, for she was tired and had to make her way down. For a second, she thought she heard a large sigh of relief from the Zoid far below her. That wasn't possible, though, so she grabbed the prize she had been seeking all along and started going down again.
It was much harder this time, because she was tired, dirty, sweaty, and still hatless. A few times, she almost fell, and the Shield Liger stepped forward in order to attempt to catch her. In the end, the girl clung tightly to the large pillar.
---
"Thank you very much, sir." She grinned largely as she returned, triumphant with her victory. Now she was halfway done, and her goal was within reach. Her energy was momentarily drained, so she didn't try anything fancy with the Liger on her way to the next area. A Spoonful of Agent This 'trick-or-treat adventure' was getting to be incredibly painful and long. She was going to finish this, no matter what. It would have been smarter to go to the cliff before moving on to the temple, but she could survive the trek through that area again. As long as she could stay far away from the monk who ate the birds and threw her candy up to the highest place he could. As long as this next person didn't do anything of the sort, she would be fine. The Shield Liger moved quickly, glad to be moving to another place with more candy. It was going to have fun once it was over -actually, it was having fun at that moment.
The large cape had yet to get in its way, so it was beginning to believe that the costume wasn't that bad. The paint on its teeth could be easily removed, as well. It didn't really want to look like it was going to suck some human's blood at every moment. After all, the liquid would probably mess up its circuits. The costume couldn't be that bad if it got the Zoid candy, though. And its costume was still intact, unlike its pilot's. Hers was dirty now, because of the climbing she had just done. It was grateful that she would go to all the trouble of getting candy for it. They were getting close to a second forest now, but this one was much darker than the first one.
Devi was too tired to notice the quick change in the environment. "Let's see. The place we're heading to is called..." She paused, finally realizing where they were at that very moment. "...Death's Lake." She groaned lightly, rubbing her forehead. "Well, then, we'll just have to see how bad this place is for ourselves, won't we, Liger?" The metallic beast let out a loud roar, happy to be nearing the end of its journey of the day.
---
Devi abandoned the Shield Liger momentarily in order to keep it away from the swampier area. Who knew what would happen if anything fell in the water. She could keep her balance better than the Liger could in this situation, and she would be right back, after all. Now all she had to do was find the house on the island in the middle of Death's Lake. It seemed appropriately named, from what she could see. Her curiosity almost made her look to see if they really were bodies floating by, or if she was just imagining things from exhaustion.
It didn't take long to get to the house. For a moment, she almost went up to tap on the door. Then she heard something moving, and a... man stepped out. His form was digusting, to say the least. And his story was hard to take, even if it was almost impossible to understand. She lost track of what he was saying, but even if he was a zombie or something of the sort, he wasn't trying to eat her brains. If he was cursed to the land, then was it even possible for him to go to the hospital? It might do him some good, even if it wasn't that much. "Trick or treat..." Te hatless witch with hands that were in pain said.
How he obtained the candy was even more disgusting. But she wasn't about to say anything about it. Surprisingly, she didn't feel like she wanted to throw up. "Thank you." She took the gummy worm, however strange his method of obtaining it was. She waved to him as her feet turned and moved back toward the Zoid. One more place to go. The Liger was happy to see its pilot safe, and glad to see that she had also accomplished her goal once more. They had a long way to travel in order to make it to the last place, and the pilot wondered if they would make it.
Devi was definitely meeting the strangest of people while getting candy... A Spoonful of Agent Devi was exstatic to be on the last part of her Halloween expedition. One last piece of candy, one last person to visit... She was almost happy that the day was almost through. The ride to the cliff was a long and unhappy one, but being inside the comfortable cockpit of the Shield Liger was nice. Her costume was beginning to feel incredibly heavy and sweaty, and that wasn't good in the least. It would be off soon, anyway. Regardless of what Devi thought of her own costume, the Shield Liger was content with its own, and happy to wear it for a while. Possibly because of the candy it brought the two.
The pilot hopped out of her Zoid warily, unsure of what type of person would be living in such a place. A monk that drank blood in the mountains... A zombie who lived in a swamp... And of course, the man in the sand from her first visit. The last person couldn't be that bad. But still, she was a little nervous. Her costume was already partly destroyed, and she wanted it to survive as long as possible. "Trick or treat, ma'am." She glanced back to see what Sasuki had seen, and only caught sight of a grave. Creepy, but not really deadly.
The metal kiss was her final candy, and the pilot was a little over enthusiastic to obtain it. Her hand reached for it and grabbed hold, but the woman's reflexes were like that of a predator going after her defenseless prey. And Devi had fallen for it like a chump. "Let go! I don't want to stay!" Devi literally slipped out of Sasuki's grasp, as well as out of her costume. Underneath, she was wearing her everyday clothes. Which explained why she was so hot all the time while in her Halloween outfit. No longer a witch, Devi blotted with her hand clutching tightly to the candy.
"Liger! We're leaving! Now!" She called to the Zoid, running quickly in order to escape the woman who was undoubtably following her. Faster than she ever had before, Devi jumped into the cockpit and fired up the Shield Liger. The machine asked no questions. It never did, though. "God. I'm so glad this is over. You happy now, Liger? I almost died a couple of times back there." The Zoid roared happily, ignoring her undertone. It was happy to have collected its candy during the Zoid's first Halloween.
