it's hard to trust a group that's so secretive. besides i've seen people just disappear in that outfit, like edward Bear that sang "the house at pooh corner", he's never been heard of since joining....

Now I don't know anything about Scientology (I intend to look it up before I post in detail), put please, try not to be so rash!

For what I know, most modern religions emerged under cult like circumstances... Back in the day, 2000 years ago, Christianity would have fit the modern definition of a cult perfectly. What was Buddha's religion? What was the birth of the Neo-Pagan movement? ALL of these started as cults...

And as far as suicide goes, for hundreds, if not thousands of years, suicide was seen as an honourable act in the Eastern world. Besides, there's a difference between TELLING people to kill themselves and ALLOWING them to kill themselves.

My point is, flat out calling someone's religion a cult (though not intended that way) seems like a very intolerant thing to do. As I said, I have reading to do before I can comment on Scientology in particular, but please, try to keep your topics to a relevant discussion and not blurting personal biases.

i personally didn't say they were a cult. i said they creeped me out, though.

there's a difference.

spiders creep me out, but they are not a cult.

they are an alien conspiracy.

Agreed Personal Baises are WRONG in every way. But scientology is a cult it is not a recognised relgion in any form. It expects you to give up your entire life to them not just devot yourself, literally give up everything you can to them. Including your life.

Now I am not saying that everyone who is part of the scientology religion is a bad person or that their views are wrong, they are just going about it the wrong way.

And yes I realise there is a difference between accepting Suicide and Commanding suicide, and they command it.

Saying someones religion is a cult is an IMMENSE insult. I don't think we have any Scientologists here, but I would appreciate if did not insult others religions or, so to speak, shove your view down our throats. No offense meant, but some more tolerance would be appreciated.
That said, Scientology was, essentialy, founded on a self-help book. I believe the author is dead now. Maybe he's not. I don't know about the suicide thing, but they are a highly secretive society, and you learn more of the secrets as you gain rank in their order. Since that applies, not much about Scientology is known.
PS:I hope I didn't offend you with the complaints about the tolerance thing. I myself may have my own views which may be in agreement, but please consider the people with ARE Scientologists.

I highly doubt there are any real Scientologiss in this guild. If there were they would have been banned long ago. The Scientologist vew on place like this is less than kind. Although there may be some people following them, whcih for that I say, I am sorry, but please rethink your views, it is a dangerous dangerous thing.

NOTE: Scientology IS a cult. It is not a recognised religion. It was not an insult it was a fact.

I'm locking this thread. When you feel like creating a thread about Scientology that would be non-insulting to any members of that religion, and has a point of view valid to both sides of any argument you take up, go ahead and create a new thread. This guild stands for one thing: Tolerance.
