Bones: ~Cleaning her paw till something catches the corner of her eye, turning slowly she lowers her body and spots it.... a butterfly of varying colours. Grinning she turned her predatory instincts on and watched it just pass out of sight before bounding into chase, oblivious to most but her prey.~

Varran was snoozing, his black and orange pelt highly visible were he lying in short grass, as it was it came above his body and unless you were a bird, it was extremely difficult to spot him. Suddenly he was wide awake, the breath flown from his body as something bounded over him, well .. on him, "HEY!" he growled.

It was all going to plan, she had the speed and the colourful flying insect that as far as she was concerned only existed for her entertainment and pleasures in her sights. Bones was gaining and her smug grin was expanding just as it usually did when she successfully hunter and generally got her own way, then she felt her paw catch on something wobbly yet solid at the same time. Everything seemed to go into slow motion as she lost her footing and felt her back paw thud again as she went head over tail whatever had magically appeared to trip her up. Landing with a thunk the smug look was miles away as she looked around dejectedly and spooled something very orange..... "HEY!" Scowling she slinked down and moved towards it.

Varran snarled and curled a lip "What do you think you're doing? running over decent B'alam while they're sleeping" he grumbled, getting up so that the top half of his body was visible above the grass "Didn't your parents teach you to watch where you're going?!" he said low as he saw the grass shifting his way as something moved towards him

"I'll have you know I was deeply involved in a chase and you MR, who just lies around right in the middle of a path like that! Crazy Males!" Shaking her head she sighed and rolled her eyes, inspecting the paws that had obviously collided with the male. She didn't look relaxed nor did she look on edge but she had no doubt that if he made a sudden movement she'd was ready to sprint off and away and out of danger.

"in the middle of the path?! i was in the grass, out of the way almost asleep thank you very much" he growled, getting annoyed this female was blaming HIM for her mistake. He glared at her when she inspected her paws "i'm not dirty" he huffed, curling his tail around his body.

"Well you just so happened to be in my way so there!" Snuffing out a gush of air she turned away, knowing that she was loosing this one, it was just chance and a accident and she knew it but she was dammed if she was going to admit it and loose the argument she seemed to be having. Raising her brow at his last comment she tracked his gaze to looking at her paws then to him "Dirty? I was checking to see if I hurt myself on your hunk of male flesh, uh.. I mean chunk." Lowers her brow and bites the inside of her cheek.

Varran huffed, "it's grass... and i'm not exactly a rock, i doubt you're hurt" he snapped back. His ears flicking back a little, if it had been a male stood in front of him, he might have been a little more forceful in his side of the ... argument but since it was a female before him, he controlled his temper. Her misworded comment flying completely over his head...until she corrected herself, "hmm? Hunk of male flesh you say?" he questioned, eyes softening just a tiny bit.

Staying on her feet without moving she gazed to her paw as she flexed them, they didn't hurt but it was as if she could feel the weight of them colliding into him as a distant weird kind of ache. The first point of argument seemed to have dropped which she didn't really notice, she did however pick up on that her slip of the tongue had been noticed and emphasized now all she had to do was stay cool and not make herself look like cub.....

"Uh yea 'cause obviously I'm not as big as you ad uh... oh shut up!" Scrunching up her maw she tried to look everywhere but at him and failed miserably as she seemed to find her eyes finding him, whether it was to gadge his reaction or something else she didn't know.

Despite the fact he was still annoyed with her, he was slightly amused by her reaction, "nice comeback" he snorted, a slight smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he stared directly at her, while she seemed to be trying not to look at him, but failing.

"Yea well... thanks." Letting out a sigh she shrugged and seemed to relax, looking around she noticed there was no sign of the butterfly. Bones wasn't surprised but she was a bit miffed, slowly she found herself giving up on the whole looking away from him and caught sight of him. She had to admit that given a choice this male could undoubtedly be more fun than a some fluttering insect she was sure to get bored or or catch not too long after starting her chase. Shifting on the spot she started to feel a little awkward she didn't interact with others often, and never really outside her family and here she was looking at this strange male who she had only just been arguing with.

Varran had to stifle a smile that threatened to destroy his whole serious act. "So what were you doing running around like that?" he asked, his ears flicking away the odd fly that tried to settle on him, as he sat so still.

When he spoke she had to stop herself from physically jumping on the spot, and probably failed covering it up completely, as his words seemed to break the mood that was building. "Chasing something...." realising that her tail has been swaying back and forth on the grass she curled it around her as she decided it was probably safe to sit now, by probably it was a light sit that still allowed for a quick retreat should she need to. "Well by something I mean butterfly thing, very important daily activity don't you know? How about you, always lie about snoozing at this time?" As she finished asking her question she smirked, she didn't speak harshly but it was a little challenging considering their previous conversation.

Varran raised an eyebrow at her "butterfly chasing? that's a useless cub game" he said in a quiet voice. "Not in this exact spot no, but usually around this time of day, yes, i do lie somewhere....out of the way ... and sleep for a little while" he replied, his stomach grumbled and he looked a little embarrased.

"Nu uh! It's not useless it's fun, don't you just do things for fun sometimes?" Eyeing him up and down she holds back a giggle as his belly grumbles but can't resist commenting "Sometimes you sleep too much and forget to eat, eh?" Just as she started to snicked she found her stomach join in with his and cut her laughter short, a soft blush coloured her cheeks as she shifted her laugh to that of more an embarrassed tone.

Varran glared as she laughed at him. "It is useless now you are no cub anymore" he growled "I....I don't forget to eat, i just...." he couldn't finish the sentence, knowing she was right .....this time. When her stomach growled too, that small smile tugged at his mouth again. "seems i'm not the only forgetful one" he replied flatly.

"Phft, a'ight Captain obvious so we're both hungry, want to take me to lunch?" Smirking she flashed a little tooth as she was being cheeky and trying to hide her embarrassment at the growl in her stomach and thinking over what she said. It wasn't like her, but then again she had nothing to compare this encounter to and he was quite handsome, despite there apparent need to bicker about most things it was turning out kinds fun.

Varran sighed, "Why, can't you catch your own lunch?" he asked coldly before turning away, he hunched down into a hunting mode, "Well, are you coming?" he growled when she didn't immediately follow "We hunting or not?"

Rolling her eyes she waited a moment "I could but where is the fun in that." Bones then lowered her weight and joined him in a hunting position, shifting forward she growled and came equal with him "Yea Yea keep your tail on" Shaking her head she started off keeping close to the floor and listening to any prey near by.

Varran nodded silently to her, letting her take the lead in the hunt.

Whilst staying low as entering the more densely, Bones left herself high enough off the ground to keep a good pace, senses on a alert it was probably the quietest the male had seen her so far. Since loosing contact with her family she'd had to do all her hunting herself and though it sounded like she was being cheeky it was more of a test, not that she knew it.

With a twitch of her ear she picked something up, they where nearing the edge of the jungle closing in on the foot of the mountains, stopping briefly she turned back to nod at the male then in the direction she'd picked up the scent.

Varran sighed, "why am i letting her lead?" he wondered to himself, normally he never hunted with another, preferring his own company. He was so lost in thought that he bumped right into her when she stopped, looking away briefly embarrassed. He nodded when she indicated the scent.

As he bumped into her she went from indignant to wanting to burst out of laughter, it well and truly broke her hunting mood, shaking her head, still trying to calm herself and not laugh she lowered back down and switched back into huntress. Starting a careful trot she followed the scent as it got stronger she lowered down and slowed herself till the animal was in sight. There was a good bit of cover between them and the horned beast, which as good as she doubted she could hunt this on her own it seemed she actually needed the male to achieve this kill.

The animal was about 2/3 of her size, thin furr covering most of it's body with hooves and most noticeably huge horns, twice the size of it's head. Most would know it was a goat, quite common in the mountains, this one had obviously wondered off to find fresh grass but was easy picking for two B'alam. Turning back to the male she nodded at it then him then the left as she used her paw to indicate herself and the right, the grass was thin here and couldn't be used as cover but there where numerous tree's and bushes to work there way close enough to pounce.

He glared at her as it was obvious she wanted to laugh at him, he almost turned and left her to hunt on her own but she seemed to calm, he let out a barely audible huff. He raised an inquisitive eyebrow at the beast she selected, it would take the two of them to bring this creature down. Nodding as she sent him left, he circled round, using as much cover as he could. The orange parts of his pelt would have been easily visible otherwise

Taking the right she slinked around, keeping low and as quiet as possible she comes to the rear of the scene, using the bushes to keep herself concealed. Hoping that he was ready for the distraction she jumped up, hiding herself behind the tree she was jumping into the branch creecked slightly and a few leafs flew down.

The goat turned it's head looking up into the tree, suddenly alert it was peering directly into the spot Bones was occupying, but could not see her due to her coverage.

Hoping he got the idea she was expecting the male to pounce as soon as the goat looked away, to avoid his vivid colours getting him spotted. She was banking on it being distracted long enough for him to get the kill, slinking down she held her breath praying to the temple gods her parents had spoke of that this would work and she wouldn't look like a newb hunter.

Varran crouched, having moved into an almost ideal position. He froze as the goat looked directly to where the female was hiding, he held his breath for a second before swishing his tail a little in his impatience, why didn't she spring already?! ... a twig snapped as his tail moved, forcing the goat to look his way, he cursed under his breath and pounced, his muscles pumping to reach the goat before it escaped, it fled before him, running towards the female, it's focus on him entirely, rather than what was in front of it.

As soon as the predator appeared the goat looked in shock and horror then started to run, there was still a chance, run run run run run run run, just run and maybe survive....

Bones was waiting, the male took longer than she thought to pounce but there it was!

Into the tree's then into the mountain, home free, run run run run run!

Waiting till the goat was in the perfect position, just coming up to her tree, !There!. Jumping down, claw out, ear back and with a vicious roar she landed and sunk her razor sharp claws into the goats back, using her weight to slam it down.!Down! Onto the floor the goat landed with a thud, bleeding from several places but not yet dead or unconscious it was down to the male to finish it off as the weight of the slam sends Bones rolling a few steps before being able to get up.

"come on come on, where are you stupid female?" he thought as the goat started to pull away from him, where was she? she should have been nearer.... He was forced to skid to a stop as she leaped down from a tree right onto the goat. "About time" he muttered, bounding over, expecting her to make the kill, but she rolled away? "fine" he humphed pouncing on the goat and finishing it off. "can't make a kill? no wonder you're skinny" he said, sitting up and wiping the blood from his muzzle, standing back slightly to let her eat first.

Getting to her feet she let forth a vicious roar as the adrenaline was still pumping through her veins, starting her charge back the few steps she had to make herself skid to a stop to avoid crashing into the male or kill. Though she had hoped he'd do his part, as she couldn't avoid the force of the slam making her roll away, she was ready and acting just in case he hadn't. Everything started to calm down just in time for her to catch his last few words, staring at him and his blood dripping maw she found herself taken back and blinking. "Skinny?" Shaking her head she looked herself over, she supposed so wasn't well filled out as she generally only hunted when she needed to, leaning down she started to eat but left enough space for the male to join.

Varran nodded "yes skinny, did you mishear me?" he said, licking his chops carefully, he sat back a little way away from the kill while she ate her fill, he would eat when she was finished, the goat was big enough for the both of them. He did salivate a little as she munched but he held back, "looks like you needed this kill" he muttered.

Once she started to eat she couldn't seem to stop, Bones couldn't remember the last time she had big prey, well she could it was back when she stayed with her family. Apparently she was a lot more hungry than she thought, either way as she chewed and ripped at the flesh she couldn't deny the beautiful taste compared to her usual prey. It wasn't until she'd filled every inch of her belly did she stop take a few steps to another tree's shade away from the body and laid down "Mmm apparently so, still skinny?" Looking to the male she grinned, laid her head on her paw and relaxed, closing her eyes. "Such a gentlemen, letting a lady go first."

Varran watched her eat, "when was the last time she ate?" he thought, as she stuffed herself so much her stomach bulged. When she had finished and asked him if she still looked skinny, he had to smile "nope, with a stomach that large, i'm sure you would be mistaken for being pregnant" he joked before shoving his head down to eat himself, covering any smart remarks with a mouthful of meat

As he started to tuck in she slowly opened her eyes and raised her head, looking down to her stomach it was defiantly bulging. "Really?" She blinked her voice soft and questioning rather than sarcastic or challenging. Scrunching her maw she stared at her belly, thinking back to being a cub and her mothers joy in having her three siblings and Bones. "I've never seen someone pregnant... Well at least I'll know what to look for." Snatching her gaze away she pulled her tail in close and replaced her head on her paws and watched him eat.

Varran smiled and lifted his head up from the meat, "I've seen the odd pregnant female, so yeah, though you haven't got puffy ankles like most" he said, making an not so obvious joke. He ate until he was full and laid near to her, stretching out to his full length he yawned "That was a tasty goat" he murmured towards her, about as close to a compliment as he was going to get at the moment.

At his comment she found herself puzzled but something about it sounded like it should be funny, she didn't really know and it probably showed as a little unease in her reply "Thanks, I think" Raising her brow she chuckled without moving her head from her paws. As he finished up and came to join in the after eating relaxation she smiled, she didn't really know why it just felt right and just as he finished yawning she must of caught it because she found herself yawning to. "It was wasn't it? We make a good team it seems." Shifting her weight Boned moved onto lying on her side and positioned her head in a nice relaxed way so she could see him without it being uncomfortable.

Varran stretched as he lay on his belly, his front paws stretching all the way forwards, his rear ones all the way backwards, he yawned again and nodded to her, "I suppose we do, it's usually easier to flush prey to another, i remember mother chasing boar towards us as young cubs, we had to work together to make a kill, it wasn't easy" he said, not at all sure why he was telling her such private things.

"I Remember we used to beg to join the hunt" Her eyes glazed a little as she remembered "Then one day we where allowed, the thrill of it despite all the energy so made it worth it.... well for all but my brother. Apparently hanging our with our dad was more fun." Shrugging she flicked her ear in annoyance, she enjoyed remembering sometimes, but it was difficult not to quite remember when she last saw any of them.. "Actually... non of the males ever really hunted, needs must eh?" Grinning she winked at the male currently sharing her company.

Varrna sighed, "for us, it was hunt a soon as we could or go hungry, it wasn't ... games for us from the beginning, mother... didn't want us but father had made her keep us... at least until we could hunt for ourselves, we ....learned very early" he sighed, "my sisters.... weren't so lucky as me"

"Nice to know your loved huh...." Frowning she reached her paw out instinctively not actually touching him but closer than he would probably be comfortable with. Bones wanted to ask about his sisters, but couldn't bring herself to do it, she just had to think the worse and feel sorry that his upbringing wasn't as great as hers. Even though she didn't view hers as perfect she knew she was lucky till later on, his story made her feel spoilt and naive. "Dad's are supposed to do that though I suppose, well so are mums, but at least you had one parent on your side?" She felt stupid saying it and regret it as soon as she did but Bones honestly couldn't think what else to say.

Varran sighed, He drew his paws under him, pulling away from her "my father was not on my side, we were supposed to be strong, her abandoning us would have been a sign of weakness, so that's why ...." he shrugged "it's no big deal really i just had to learn fast that' all" he didn't particularly care if it made someone feel bad for him, he had been strong enough to live through it, so what others thought about it made no impact on him, though ... he felt he should show some sort of emotion, he couldn't do it.

Pulling her paw back she subconsciously started moving her head to scratch her ear on the ground and found her eyes sliding off towards the sky, taking in the remains of the day. "Looks like you certainly did learn, and you don't seem half bad either and hey I don't even know you yet." It completely bypassed her that she'd said yet, and that it indicated she wanted to spend more time in the males company it seemed. "Makes you wonder, what do you think you'd of been like if you had loving parents?" Her focus was mostly on the passing cloud though she was still very with the conversation her last question was mostly hypothetical and not meant seriously, whether it came across that way or not was a completely different thing.

Varran's ears flicked uncertainly, in the back of his mind he registered that she seemed to want to spend more time with him, but for the moment he was unconcerned... or at least.. he seemed to be. "I can honestly say i've never wondered what it would have been like, there seems no point, it was my past, it's over why should i let it matter to me now" he commented, smiling just a little as she rubbed her ear on the ground, she looked pretty sweet when she did that.. wait... did he just think something....positive?

"Well it's our pasts that make us who we are today isn't it? So if something was different in your past you might be different now, or me, or well anyone." Closing on eye she looked up at the clouds, trying to see shapes that weren't really there, then closing the other she tried again but with the other eye. "Seriously though... you've never wondered, now even about the small things?"

Varran nodded slowly "it's the past, i don't care much for the past" he shrugged, "i have never wondered at all, not even the small things" He actually smiled at her squinting to look at the clouds, he looked up briefly and snorted "There's one that looks like the goat we just ate" he said without thinking

Bones was listening honestly and she was going to reply to the serious conversation they where having... until he mentioned the cloud shape, instantly she snapped her attention at him and tried to follow his gaze. "Really? Where!" Grimacing she frantically examined the sky trying to see what he could see "I Can't see anything, I think my imagination must of got pushed out when I was stuffing away all the goat."

Varran nodded "yes look there's the head.... and there's the entrails... strewn behind it, can't you see?" he said totally serious.

As he was nodding she still couldn't see it, she was becoming desperate to see it, letting out a huff she laid back and tried to relax and calmly follow him gaze. Scrunching up her maw she still couldn't find it "No... I must be blind...." she was starting to become angry now, if only she could what he did, maybe if she was laying closer or where he was she might spot it.

"never mind, it's going now" he said, looking over at her, "no need to get worked up about, it's only a cloud" he chided her. "so .... miss ... what brings you around this territory, i've been here while but never seen you before"

Letting out a small pout she tried to steady her breathing, she couldn't believe he saw something in the clouds and she didn't, wasn't he the serious one and her the silly one. It didn't make sense but she tried to let it drop and just calmly peering back up the sky, maybe she'd see something up there if she wasn't paying much attention. "Wanted a change of scenery I suppose, been wandering for a while now, doesn't suit to stay in one place with no reason." Bones hadn't meant it at all in the suggestive way but seemed to find herself saying things that could be taken in different ways regardless, she hadn't noticed and if he didn't then there would be no harm done. "Wait, so this is your territory?"

Varran listened as she spoke, he noted her expression but said nothing. Not at first that is, he let her sweat it out a little bit. "I'm in the middle of carving it out" he said, his muzzle twisted up into a semi smile.

Raising her brow she peered towards him in all seriousness and asked "Is that how it works? You have to Carve the outline of your territory?"

Varran looked at her quizzically "well, not actually 'carve' it .. i meant, marking the borders, checking that no other males are too near, things like that" he explained as if to a cub.

"Oh so it's more like you mark it in your head than just have to let everyone know who comes near?" She genuinely didn't know, she grew up in a pride where as a female it wasn't really any of her concern. "But it's open right now yea, otherwise you wouldn't of let me in?" She tilted her head and returned her gaze to the clouds.

Varran rolled his eyes, "no .. i have to scent mark my borders, and check that no others have overlayed mine, if i scent another male, i have to chase him off" he said, his voice getting irritated a little "to.. females they're always open"

"Aw don't you want more friends, wait only females?" Blinking it slowly dawned on her... "Oh." Looking around she slowly started to play with the grass with her tail, desperately trying to keep her gaze up at the clouds and not look over to what look he was giving her... whether it was taunting or... something else.

Varran scowled a little, "females...." he muttered turning his head away "you should get some sleep miss ... I'm Varran by the way" he said resting his chin on the soft grass.

Biting her lip gently she found herself fixed on one cloud, watching it slowly cross the sky as all but her tail seemed to be frozen in time and space... till he spoke. "Bones....I'm sorry... I'm new to uh... this kinda thing..." Closing her eyes she had no idea what was going to happen next, he hadn't done anything bad yet, in fact the worse had been there little arguments which had still been kinda fun.

Varran grunted "get some sleep, i'll keep watch" he said quietly with a soft sigh "i ... don't get company often"

Peeking her eyes open she gazed quickly towards him and softened at his last words, nodding she got herself comfortable, and curled her tail around her body. Closing her eyes she found it a lot easier to drift off, and for the first time in a while she went into a deep sleep, not a light-ready-to-run doze. Right as she slipped over the edge and drifted off into her gentle sleep she mumbled "Thank you" then proceeded to dream of times of the past, arguing with her siblings and the bright ambitious looks her parents used to give her.

Varran waited for her to go completely asleep before he got up, he sat nearer to her and curled his tail around his paws, looking down at her sleeping form. "Females....." he said to himself again, this time softer than he had before. He watched as she slept on.
