well all except for the yugo

their barrels arent chrome lined and if you wanna shoot cheap combloc bulk ammo out of them they are more prone to damage as that ammo is corrosive. remember that corrosive is what they were being fed before they shipped them to the US.

all that being said, I used to have a yugo and it was a pretty good rifle. I just made sure to take it easier on me and the rifle and used nothing but monarch and wolf ammo.

I'll probably get the Chinese SKS then, I know someone who can get me one for right around $180.

Advice on removing the fixed mag? I was thinking giving the M1 Carbine a run for its money and putting a 10-round box in place of the fixed, but I'd hate to have misfeed issues.
box magazines in a SKS is a bad idea, they start to have feed problems when you tinker with that sorta thing.

first know that all SKS box mags on the market suck except for one exception..
the only SKS magazine that ever feeds reliably almost 100 percent is the tapco 20 rounder magazines. keep in mind that if you do go to use the tapco mags that you can't use stripper clips reliably while using them.

so this either means buy a lot of mags or you'll do alot of loading each round in the same mag by hand every 20 rounds at the range.

if you wanna remove the fixed mag, take a look at youtube for "SKS disassembly" theres a way to do it, after removing the receiver cover and BCG, you poke the little button in the rear of the trigger guard and go from there.

How much are the 20-round mags each? I figure that if I'm going to buy a weapon like that I'm going to buy at least five magazines for it. For example, when I bought my M44 I bought 10 stripper clips to go with it, which will most likely NOT all fit in my bullet pouch, but at least I have them.

We'll see what happens, I'll probably end up giving the Tapco mags a try, but I'm a ways off from buying another firearm; I still have a conversion to do to the M1895 revolver I have coming my way.

Conversion from 7.62x38mmR to .32 ACP, seems to be pretty popular and they make Nagant .32 ACP cylinders especially for that conversion.

Looks like this afterwards.

why .32? and why nagant?

way I see it...you can get something a little more worthwhile and in a more common, larger caliber.
something with a trigger pull that doesnt feel like picking up a cinderblock using only your index finger.

probably for cheaper than the nagant and conversion together

Lessee...$100 for the gun and $73 for the cylinder. Since I'm a DIY-er, that's still cheaper than the Webley MKIV .455 I want. Considerably.

Besides, it looks neat with the smooth cylinder rather than the grooved one. And yeah, I know about the trigger pull on the Nagant being really heavy, but I figure it's a good start at revolver mechanics for when I get more money to put into more expensive, higher-caliber handguns. I'm not even going to spend $200 on the whole package. Y'think I could find a revolver in .357 Magnum or .38 Special for $200 or less?

with ammo you're still spending over 200.

oh, and you probably don't know about the FEG PA63 in 9mm makarov.
check those out. they can be had for around 150 to 170 dollars.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 14, 2011 10:57 am

and yes I do believe a .38 revolver can be found for under 200.

here's a link to one from a site I order from often.

http://www.centerfiresystems.com/AC-M206.aspx

that's one out of 2 in that caliber to choose from at that price

hell, check out your local pawn shops too, you're likely to find tons of pistols in decent condition for under 200

I love the PA-63, but I never was able to stand the snub-nose look of those 38 specials. Get me a revolver with a longer barrel and then I'll be satisfied.

I may actually consider picking that first one up. I think I saw it on J&G Sales.

Yeah, definitely a little more like it. That'd work great.

I'd say. a lot better than putting something smaller than 9mm downrange. and ammo is more common than .32acp

noticed you were looking for a MKIV. if you can manage to find one, try and see if there's a way to get it to fire .45acp.

mainly because .455 is extremely hard to find, and because I dont really think it's even produced at all anymore. if you can find it, it's likely unreasonably expensive just like 7.62x38 nagant revolver ammo.
