The world of Code Wars is Earth in the relatively near future (2142).
The current world powers are The United States of America, The United Kingdom, Russia, China, and Japan.
Australia, Canada, Mexico, India, South Korea, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, and South Africa are-- though in varying degrees-- all doing fairly well off, and are top economic powers.
Antarctica has become an inhabited continent as part of a joint experiment run by several different countries. Its citizens live in specialized buildings to protect from the harsh conditions, and have to import much of their food.
Africa has only sunk deeper into the sea of civil unrest and lackluster conditions. Besides South Africa, the continent is not doing too well. Much of the Middle East and many of the smaller South American countries are experiencing similar problems.
Some time in the mid-2000s, threat of war finally pressured North Korea and the UN into an uneasy agreement: in return for leaving the rest of the world alone, the rest of the world had to leave North Korea alone. As a result, the country has been completely isolated ever since, and is several decades behind even the lower-end countries. The various governments of the world simply turn a blind eye to North Korea and its goings-on.
CoreTech is an American-owned company, and the largest manufacturer of integrated organotechnology and anti-virus programs in the world. It has branches all over the world, and plays a big role in the overall global economy. Their various locations are:

Recently, attacks on CoreTech's main system have increased dramatically, and Abraxas suspects she knows who is behind it. Xabaras, his charisma not lessened by his transformation into a supervirus, has managed to unite world hackers and has given them one goal: take down CoreTech. Many are more than happy to comply.
It's beginning to seem like digital warfare is approaching...
