I don't know about you, but I often see something along the lines of "Vocaloid is better than [singer]!!" or [Singer] just got owned by a voice program!!" in the comments of a video where a Vocaloid sings an English song (most common being Lady Gaga it seems). Do you think this sometimes when you heard a popular English song sung by a Vocaloid? Is it because you prefer the electronic/computerized sound over the original singer's voice, auto tuned or not? Or is it just because a portion of Vocaloid fans jump on the "I hate mainstream" bandwagon and want to fit in?

Examples:
Bad Romance - Miki
Poker Face - Rin
Bring Me To Life - Kaito
Toxic - Luka
Alejandro - Meiko
Telephone - Miku & Rin
3 - Len

Sorry if these aren't the best examples, college has sapped my sanity away for the time being D8
...And I will admit to liking the song "3" that Len does. I heard it a lot before hearing the original Britney Spears version to where the original just sounded...meh. Does that mean Len > Britney? No, because I don't really think it's fair to compare a computer to a real person.
So opinions? Yes? No? Maybe so?

Screaming babies would be better than Brittany or Lady Gaga.

I like the songs, but I also think they just sound bad most of the time. They're English songs. Not sung by English vocaloids, even. And some are off pitch anyway.
Besides, I would never say that a vocaloid>real life singer because i love gaga<3 a [good] singer takes talent. A vocaloid is someone's voice manipulated into pitches and sounds, then made into a song.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I feel. Not to say I don't LOVE Vocaloid songs, but vocaloids almost always sound better (and more natural) singing songs made for them as opposed to songs already sung by real singers. It's sort of how when people try to cover vocaloid songs by singing, it sounds strange- to me, anyways.

TBQH I only really like covers if they're extremely well-done. I mean like, you spent hours, maybe over the course of a few weeks or a few months, smoothing out the Vocaloid's voice, and tweaking the pronunciation.

To me, it should sound smooth, and I can tell what they're saying. If it's supposed to be in English, I expect to be able to understand it without reading lyrics... like normal English songs. Unless it's some insane remix, then I can (usually) tolerate the Voca singing robotic-like, but only if it absolutely fits with the song.

Yuki - Castle on a Cloud

No amount of overrated mainstream songs covered will ever top this, in my mind.

Same could be said with English Vocaloid singing in Japanese. I could care less whether they sound better in Japanese than they do in English. If they can't speak Japanese well, and you require the lyrics to be played throughout the video, then they fail at singing Japanese.

I come to terms that if one requires lyrics be posted in the video, I assume that the reason is because the creator weren't able to make the Vocaloid speak the language well enough.

I'm mostly out of touch with current mainstream music, so I can't say I've ever felt the same. I can understand why some vocaloid fans would prefer an actual artificial voice over a song with obviously altered human vocals though.
