This is a private roleplay between Sakngea [lungrot] and Xiu [Honeybii].

Setting:

Sakn insists Xiu hang with him, and on the way in from a boat trip, the redhead insists on knowing what is wrong with his friend. Xiu in turn gets flustered and emotions are revealed.

Sakn had his shirt off, and it hung around his waist as he moved about the boat, casually allowing it to drift in towards the docks near his village. It was a nice day, just passed noon, and Sakn was enjoying the way his skin soaked up the sun, warming his muscles and easing any tension he had felt from daily stress. The fisher boy took a moment to stare out at the ocean before glancing over to his left and grinning as he watched Xiu lean over the other side; watching the water move along the sides of the boat. It wasn't uncommon to see the monk around Sakn now a days; it was obvious that the two had hit it off. Sakn liked to think of the boy as his best friend.

He had invited Xiu out on a boat trip with him today, and while they hadn't caught more then a few fish (enough for dinner, most definitely), it had been a good day. Well, except for the fact that every time Sakn got too close to Xiu, or teased him, or touched him at all, the boy seemed to freak out. His small monk-friend had been red-faced all day, and Sakn was starting to worry something was wrong.

The bumpkin boy had attempted, several times today, to started up a conversation with Xiu and figure out what was eating the smaller boy, but so far Xiu had shot him down each time. It was getting frustrating, and as they moved inwards, Sakn sidled up beside Xiu and patted him on the back.

"So," he started, already noticing the way Xiu seemed to change as soon as the redhead got too close to him, "Y'gunna tell me wha's goin' on?" because it was driving the fisherboy mad. He was worried Xiu was angry with him for something, and they had become such good friends that Sakn would hate to ruin that with something stupid.

"Com'on, Xiu," he whined, impatient to know what had his friend acting so off.

Xiu was only pretending to watch the water as it crashed against the boat. Every time Sakn turned away, Xiu faced him, watching the play of muscles across the redheads back and the way the sun glinted on his tanned skin. It was only after Xiu realized that he might seriously LIKE Sakn that he noticed how good looking his friend really was. Looking past all the crass harshness of his personality, Sakn was really very handsome.

It made Xiu feel a little crazy, especially when Sakn kept touching him. Innocent touches of course, but they still made Xiu flush. Everything that Sakn did seemed to set him off. Like now. Sakn was prancing around with no shirt on, just flaunting his delicious musculature. It wasn’t fair. Xiu felt like he would exploded in embarrassment at any moment. Even though no one knew what he was thinking, HE knew what he was thinking. It was shameful and he didn’t know what to do with himself.

It’s nothing.” Xiu snapped, body tensing and face turning red at the hand patting his back. He shrugged his shoulders to dislodge it and scooted away. “Just leave it be Sakn. Please. Don’t worry about it.” It was getting irritating. Sakn was like a dog with a bone. His intentions were honest, of course, but Xiu just wanted to be left alone. He didn't want to ruin what he had with Sakn. It'd kill him.

He waited impatiently for the boat to bump against the docks, immediately jumping out and away from Sakn while trying not to seem fidgety.

Sakn made a rather frustrated face when Xiu so blatantly shrugged his hand off and scooted away. Agreed that Sakn would frown upon hugging and cuddling with his guy friends he had no issue being physical with his close friends. And in his mind, Xiu was a close friend. A pat on the back or a arm around the shoulder was a sign of how comfortable he was with the boy. But Xiu didn't seem to want it, and was quiet intent on dodging around what was the problem.

"Whuddya mean 'nutthin'!?" he exclaimed as they came to dock, but Xiu seemed intent on not telling the fisherboy what in the world was going on. Which only helped to fuel the fire; Sakn was now interested, and he would get to the bottom of this! Even if his friend ran and dodged and tried to duck his way out of it each time. There was something seriously bugging his friend, and Sakn just wanted to know.

He just wanted to help.

So Sakn growled and moved to tie the boat up at the docks before dashing over to his friend's side. Xiu had managed to make a good distance between himself and the boat(Sakngea as well), and Sakn huffed in irritation as he caught his breath. This was just stupid now! Why wouldn't Xiu just tell him!?

Instead of the open book he was used to, Sakn found himself dealing with a wall. Xiu was still skulking; a tense little ball that was nothing like usual, "Y'can' say i's nutthin'!" he exclaimed, waving a finger at the scrawny bundle of nerves before nudging him on the shoulder, "Com'on Xiu, it can' be that bad!" what if someone Xiu knew had died? What if his friend was struggling with something? Why wouldn't he just tell Sakn?

"An' dun' say i's nuthing, Xiu," they had been friends long enough for Sakn to know right away when his friend was lying about something. And Sakn had to know what he was trying to cover up. Had to know.

I can say it’s nothing cause nothing is nothing is nothing!” He cried, walking as quickly as he could without blatantly running. He stomped across the slats of the docks, thinking he’d escaped, only to have Sakn hounding on his heels with his incessant, friendship ruining questions. Yeah, he knew Sakn could be stubborn, but he, Xiu, could be stubborn as well. And he wasn’t talking.

That poking finger nearly got nipped as Xiu spun to a halt and snapped his teeth at Sakn, something he’d NEVER done before to the boy. Sakn was working on his last, tiny nerve though and Xiu couldn‘t help it. “It is bad Sakn, but it’s just me and I don’t want to talk about it so why don’t you just leave me alone?” His face was scrunched up in mixture of embarrassment an anger as he gave a childish stomp of his foot. Had this boating trip been a mistake? He liked being with Sakn so, so much though…

Look, just lay off me alright? Can’t you get that I don’t want to talk about it?” Xiu didn’t care that Sakn was just being a good, wonderful, GORGEOUS, friend, but he couldn’t take it. He knew he was being selfish in wanting to keep things the way they were, but that wasn’t enough of an incentive to get him to confess to Sakn.

Bad?!

If Xiu had hoped that mentioning that this thing was a bad thing would help to keep Sakn from bugging him more, he was about find that it only made the redhead think harder on what it could be. Was Xiu moving away? Was he being sent to a different temple some where far away!? The fisherboy furrowed his brows and stomped after his friend.

"I ain't leavin' you no wheres alone, Xiu," he groused, obviously worried for his honey-haired friend. It hurt him to see Xiu so angry and frustrated and while it should have been obvious that Xiu would be fine if he just dropped it, Sakn felt that it wouldn't fix the problem.

"Xiu," he said as the boy moved to step away from him again, his last angry words making Sakn's own frown intensify. He caught back up with the boy and had to speed walk(and awkward thing for Sakngea) to keep pace. He huffed and puffed, not managing to say a word because of his awkward gait, and finally growled in frustration before pulling Xiu to a stop by the back of his robe. "Stop, Xiu," he said as seriously as he could before turning the boy around and placing a hand squarely atop the boys head, "Listen, Xiu. I gotta know wus buggin' ya. Y'ur worrin' me, the way y'been acting lately," and as Sakn spoke he leaned in towards the boy, attempting to make eye contact with his friend.

And that was the complete truth. Xiu was not acting normally, not at all.

"Jus' tell me, Xiu. Promise I won' get mad," he even crossed his heart, standing erect again, though he let his hand fall to give Xiu's shoulder a hopefully reassuring and friendly squeeze.

Xiu yelped when he was yanked by his robes. He’d be preparing for another speed walk, only for Sakn to finally physically stop him. He was so bent out of shape by this point that even his ear fins were tinged pink in agitation.

Made to turn and face Sakn, albeit reluctantly, Xiu stuck out his lower lip in an angry pout, his brows furrowed until his eyes were hidden in shadow. When would this stop? When would this sick feeling of uncertainty and hope end? Would he forever have those fluttering butterflies in his stomach every time he laid eyes on Sakn? The fluttering was especially bad now when Sakn was saying all those things. They were the words of a true friend and it made Xiu ache as he peeked back into Sakn’s staring face.

He slowly raised his head after having ducked it below the comfortable heat of Sakn’s hand. Would Sakn really not get mad or would this be his only chance to do what he’d been wanting to do for a while now? Xiu wasn’t sure as he looked up with big, almost glassy eyes, into the green of Sakn’s.

The hand that was now on his shoulder was soothing and Xiu licked his lower lip in thought. “Promise?” Xiu asked in a soft voice. It was now or never. Looking into Sakn’s handsome face, Xiu found himself tense all over again. He couldn’t go on like this anymore. He stomped down all his knotted emotions, refusing to be ruled by his fear of rejection.

Before he lost his nerve, Xiu was up on tip-toe, grabbing one of Sakn’s braids so he could pull the boy the rest of the way down. At the middle their lips met, Xiu pressing slightly chapped lips assertively against Sakn’s in an inept kiss.

I like you Sakn.”

"Pramise," Sakn reassured, all smiles. He watched Xiu then, curious with the way his face seemed to shift as he thought. Then the boy had his hands around Sakngea's braids, and the was being pulled down and--

He wasn't quiet sure how it happened.

But Sakn did know that this was a kiss, and for a moment, just a single automatic moment, he closed his eyes and his hand tightened on Xiu's shoulder, lips pressing back against the smaller boys. Until he realized that he was indeed kissing Xiu. Xiu, his friend, his good friend. The redhead jerked back, restraining the urge to wipe his lips, and took a step back from the monk. It wasn't that he had kissed a boy, it wasn't that at all. It was just that he was kissing someone who he cared for.

He was being intimate. And Sakn was never intimate. It wasn't right, and he couldn't do this with Xiu. Couldn't change risking their friendship over some silly soft feelings. Soft things get torn, trampled, kicked around. Sakn knew that, and he had long ago locked up that kind of softness. Or tried, at least, until Xiu showed up. Having a friend his age, someone who didn't judge him, had allowed the redhead to open up a bit. But already the book was closed again and Sakn was shaking his head.

"Xiu, y'don' like me like dis," he tried to say it with certainty, but it came out as a tentative question. He didn't want Xiu to have these feeling. These were the feelings that were best left to women, who knew how to handle them.

"Y'can't like me like dis," he continued, taking another step back from Xiu. His hands were shaking, and anger was bubbling up in his chest now. He was confused and there was a torrent of emotion swirling in his mind, all thanks to one innocent kiss from his best friend. It angered Sakn so much. He hated be out of control of his feelings, hated showing how he felt, and here he was, uncertain how to deal with his current situation. The fisherboy clenched his fists and ran his fingers along the rope of his belt, fingers tracing the rough smoothness before fingering the small turquoise-crested fishing knife he grandfather had given to him. Touching it reminded him of his grandfathers strength, and he took one last step back from the boy.

"We can' do dis kinda thin', Xiu. I can't."

What would happen now?

For one blissful, fantastic moment, his kiss was returned. Sakn was warm against his lips, tasting like salt and something that was purely Sakngea. Xiu wanted to preserve the moment forever and never let it go, but then Sakn was pulling away, looking alarmed and confused. There were no smiles now.

I do like you.” Xiu persisted seriously, blue eyes growing larger as feelings of abandonment had washed over him. Sakn said he wouldn’t get angry, yet here he was, backing away as if Xiu had the plague or something. Was the other boy disgusted? Xiu watched the array of emotion flit across Sakn’ face and he wasn’t sure which was being felt the most.

Gods. What had he done? Was Sakngea, is best friend in the entire world, going to leave him now? He’d wanted to know what was wrong, had seemed sincere, and Xiu had trusted him. Like an idiot he trusted Sakn to understand because he thought that they were close enough to share such secret things. Briefly, Xiu had held the small hope of his feelings being reciprocated, but was quickly realizing that the seven hells would freeze over before that happened.

You said you wouldn’t get mad.” Xiu’s mouth trembled and his eyes brimmed with tears of betrayal. “You said. You promised.” He was crying now, big fat tears rolling down his cheek. They were silent tears belaying the deepness of his hurt. He knew it was wrong to already think that Sakn would give up their friendship so easily, but Sakn’s rejection had left him horribly uncertain.

Mortified and a little heartbroken, Xiu hid his face in his hands and just cried, expecting to hear Sakn’s retreating footsteps.

Sakn wasn't sure what to do now. He had stood, dumbfounded, as Xiu's eyes welled up and his friend started to cry. The redhead never did well with people crying as it usually was. But this situation was more then uncomfortable. Uncomfortable, but not enough to scare Sakn off.

He was upset with the situation, not Xiu, and he wouldn't up and leave without reassuring his friend. At least, as best as he could. Sakn raised a hand, stepping in to give Xiu a pat on the back, but paused.

Was this the right thing to do? He was uncertain how to act now that the monk boy had expressed his feelings. Was he allowed to be physical, or would that send messages. It was confusing and too much to deal with, so the redhead let his hand drop, never touching Xiu's shoulder.

"Xiu," he spoke instead, hands now shoved deep in the pockets of his pants, looking rather miserable for more then one reason. He then bit his lip and added, "Com'on, don' cry. It makes y'seem girly. Lis'en, I ain't mad...," Sakn tapered off for a moment, trying to find a way to put this issue to rest. Some way to hopefully end it cleanly. But all he came up with was, "this, this thing, it jus' can't happen," he frowned then and scuffed a foot on the ground.

So awkward, so uncomfortable. Sakn wasn't sure what he wanted to do now. Run away or stay. "Best friends, though...right?" A childish attempt to reassure himself, and hopefully Xiu as well. Because Sakn could get over this, he could. He had pushed Xiu into it, so really, he had no reason to be angry at his friend.

Xiu tensed, not sure what to expect when Sakn approached him. He was shocked and somewhat comforted as he stood there, not waiting to see what Sakn would finally do. Xiu wasn’t sure what to expect, but when no physical contact came, he grew nervous, finally peeking up from his hands and staring up at Sakn with red rimmed eyes, tears slowly ebbing away.

He saw the way Sakn’s hands were shoved into his pockets and the way his scuffed his food against the ground. His expression resembled what Xiu thought his own face probably looked like, minus the tears. It was then he realized that he HAD laid some heavy baggage at Sakn’s feet. Just because Sakn had asked what was wrong didn’t mean Xiu had to tell the truth. Lying was bad of course but…seeing Sakn like this was upsetting.

Yeah.” Xiu replied glumly, refusing to sniffle as he ignored the girly comment. “I know. I’m sorry. Really.” He bit his lip, only sorry that Sakn had taken things badly. He wasn’t sorry he had confessed though, despite the repercussions. Still though, it seemed Sakn wanted things to go back to normal and Xiu was okay with that. He’d have to be.

Valiantly, Xiu squashed down his emotions and tears, forcing a smile to his face. “Yes. Best friends.” He immediately agreed, his only consolation was that Sakn still WANTED to be friends.

Feeling the pressing awkwardness of the situation, Xiu shifted from foot to foot. “I…better go now. Master’s probably waiting for me.” Still keeping up the smiles, Xiu began to edge away. “I really had fun today too. On the boat I mean. We’ll have to do it again, ‘kay?” The words sounded strained even to his own ears and Xiu wavered for only a moment, waiting for Sakn’s reply before he’d speed up the road and back to the temple.

Sakn couldn't help but bite down hard on the inside of his cheek as Xiu stepped away from him, some stupid excuse(why was he so angry now that Xiu wanted to leave? Why wasn't he happy that the boy agreed to be his friend!?) tumbling from his lips and Sakn just watched those tear-sore eyes look away from him, how the smiles were tasteless and the way he spoke was strained.

And he was so angry but it wasn't at Xiu. It wasn't at anything, just a sudden intense anger that rolled deep in his stomach and all Sakn could do was clench his fists and nod stiffly as Xiu wavered, waiting for some sign that he could leave.

"Y-Yeah," Sakn finally managed, eyes making contact with Xiu's before breaking, and he tried to act normal, tried to look fine. But he wasn't, "I'll see you sometime," not specific, not tomorrow, not the day after. But sometime they would see each other.
