"If you're worried about her father, don't be. It's just a dad thing. Viktor's very bad for it. My father would be too, if he found out about Lance. But I think he's got his hands full with just Uncle Viktor for now." She shook her head. "It's not you. And even if she did talk to him, it's probably more the fact that you're a boy, and she's his daughter. Fathers naturally don't trust boys who want to be with their daughters. It's a weird thing for them." She shrugged.
Though, she was smiling. Howl was trying to woo Sophie again. That was a good sign.
"Howl, you shouldn't try so hard. Sophie loves you, doesn't she? Not that charming mask you put on for all those other girls." She smiled, and shook her head again. "I think you should just relax a little."

"But I'm her husband," Howl started. "That makes him my father in law--" he paused and gave a shudder; Fanny and Lettie had been bad enough as inlaws, and now he had a family of vampires as his. He was certain if he made one wrong move, he'd end up being their next meal. "He's still not very nice. Sophie says he is--but I don't trust any vampire who invites me to have a steak with him."
The wizard knew quite well vampires couldn't eat a proper steak. And that the other kind of stake killed them. Implying that Adrian had either wanted him to kill him; or made him his breakfast. "I'll tell him I don't taste very good," Howl decided. "Maybe he won't see me as breakfast after that."
He paused. "But what if she falls in love with someone else?" he asked. "I have to do something, or she will, and I'll never get my heart back, so I'll never be able to love--" he realized he was rambling.

"Do you really think Sophie would forget about you, Howl? She loves you. She saved yoru heart last time, didn't she? How could she fall in love with someone else?" She knew it was possible, but even she couldn't tell Howl that. It was possible that Sophie would just get fed up with Howl, but...well, for his sake, she hoped that wouldn't happen.
"Howl, why wouldn't you trust him? He could have been inviting you to dinner to get to know you better. You've got to give him a chance. And don't act so afraid. I know you're a coward, but Howl, would you really slither out of a situation that might help you get Sophie back?" Her opinion of him would drop so many levels if he would.

Howl sighed. "I don't know what to think," he confessed. "I forgot her, I shouldn't expect her to react differently to the magic in this world... And if she forgot me, and Morgan, and all of Ingary, I don't know what I'd do." He looked at her doubtfully. "Easily. Someone could work their charm--"
He smirked suddenly. "No one's as charming as I am," he decided.
He rose an eyebrow at her. "It was quite obvious he had a dislike for me," he muttered. "He wouldn't ask me to dinner. I really tried to make a good impression... He seems to be nice towards everyone else. Sophie says he's nice."
