((because Xaotl REALLY NEEDS MORE CHARACTERS! *bricked*))
Name: Conovar
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Craft: Apprentice Beastcrafter
Rank: Candidate
Physical Description: Conovar cuts a distinctive look, particularly with his deep, red-auburn hair and fair degree of height, which tend to make him catch the eye easily, even before you notice the rest of him. Conovar is full of straight lines and rough edges, both physically and metaphorically. His jawline is strong, traditionally manly, and his nose is slightly Romanesque, the sort of high cheekbones and lines that will age well, and His eyes are storm gray with a hint of blue.
The things that make him handsome, however, also make him arrogant, and this shows on his face, the tendency of his mouth to twist into a wry sneer or smirk, and a hard, dismissive look in his eyes.
Personality: Pride is one of Conovar's defining characteristics. He's well aware of his looks and, more than this, considers himself highly skilled. He's an bit of an adrenaline junkie, and likes any part of Beast Crafting that's just a bit dangerous, though Dragons and Dragonriders take care of the felines, he'd gladly take on that challenge, just because he's convinced that he could. ((He couldn't.)) So far, rules and boundaries have managed to keep him from testing his ideas against reality, which is very likely just as well.
He tends to look down to women especially ((As seen in his history)) though it's not impossible to be a woman and earn his respect, though it's an uphill battle to prove that they're not the weak, gossip controlled creatures he thinks they are. Dragonriders have a slight edge on this, since they need to be trained to drill, but a stereotypical, flirty, bubbly green-rider is unlikely to be seen as having much more value than a quick flight-related tumble, and he'll resent taking orders from them.
He takes orders from men better, but an authoritative, confident woman, especially one with physical prowess, will get less grumping and heel dragging, and considerably less derogatory under the breath muttering. This can make his work ethic feel slightly "BiPolar" for lack of a better word, since, much as he likes to be looked up to, he also looks up to the men he wishes to emulate, in however crooked a fashion he tries to do so, and wants to impress them, though if he's not too careful his strutting and attitude tend to take away from what he's actually achieved.
He's a bit of a mans man, most of his friends will be men, and most of those will probably be, if not straight, not effeminate, since "If it acts like a girl, it might as well be a sharding girl." He'll play up a hint that he might be a lone wolf, but he's not really. Much as he denies it, he not so secretly eats up the adoration of others, especially younger people who haven't reached his level of prowess.
With his general attitude problem, it's hard to see Conovar's redeeming qualities, and sometimes hard to imagine that he has them at all, though once you get past the attitude, the bitching, and the chauvinism, he's usually truthful ((Sometimes to the point of being absolutely blatantly rude)), and once he says he's going to do something, he's going to get it done, come hell, high water, or blood loss, though you may have to wade through the heel dragging and complaining about how it's not worth his time to catch on that he's done everything in his power to make sure what he's been set to do is done well, whether or not he thinks it's 'worth his time'.
History: Conovar is one of the Weyr brats, his mother a Trader who happened to be in the Weyr during a flight, and was caught up in the 'excitement'. She became pregnant from the experience, and stayed to have her child, rather than go on the road again. She had her child, handed him over to the Cretche Workers, and left as soon as she was well enough to travel with the first group of traders who didn't know about her son, embarassed by the lapse in Non-Weyr morality. She passes through occasionally, and he knows her in something of the way of a passing stranger, but feels no particular family bond to the woman. He resents her to a degree, and blankets this resentment to most women. He sees them as weaker, with few exceptions, and bound up in fear of how they're perceived. This particularly fuels his behavior, trying to affect the way people see him half consciously, though he's more convinced that his addiction to dangerous behavior is to prove that he doesn't care.
Although Born in the weyr he apprenticed to Beast Crafting to help maintain the animals that the Weyr uses as a food base. It gets him outside and lets him exercise skills he takes a great deal of joy in.
Other/Talents:
Conovar shows promise as a beast crafter, and particularly as a tracker. He's good at finding animals that have escaped from the group, or back tracking pests and predators that have been preying on them, though he wishes that he could get permission to take care of more of them himself. ((Fortunately there are a sufficient number of people in the weyr not blinded by an Bronze-sized ego to prevent him from getting himself killed before his testosterone cools down enough to know better.))
Will this character be a candidate? (Yes/No) Yes
((Originally put over at Sands, thought it might be fun to play him here too, in all his jerk-face glory.))
