The forest was quiet. He knew the animals nearby knew he was there. Not that he cared of course; Breath let out a chuckle. He was on top- what other creature would be brave enough to stand against him?
There. A scent. Breath picked up his pace as he picked up on the scent. It's been two days since he started hunting the large game and he was slowly inching closer. The vapors from his breath stung against his nose and snow gently fell to the ground. Winter. It wouldn't be safe for him to continue into unexplored lands. Hahahaha! Fat change he would abandon the hunt; not when he was so close to feeling the blood of his prey soak into his fur. If he died... then it would happen and that would be the end of it.
His tongue dragged on the ground as he carefully read the vibrations that littered the floor. He could sense a small herd not too far away as well as other creatures. he shrugged them off as he followed the scent before him. Never lose concentration or your prey will escape from under your nose.

In a nearby clearing, a pale female lay in the sparse grass, nose buried deeply in one of the few remaining flowers that had thus far survived the cold. "You smell so nice," she mused, lifting her head with a silly grin. "Shame you'll be dead soon. But maybe I could wear you in my hair, then as you rot, I can watch the petals fall away, like big colorful raindrops..."
Giggling to herself, she wasn't paying much attention to the rest of her surroundings. She wasn't hungry, so she wasn't looking for food. She was big enough that the smaller predators left her alone, and for some reason, the larger ones seemed to keep their distance from her as well. Who knew why?
Then again, her fellow Krokotas didn't really enjoy her company...maybe the other predators would if they'd just give it a try! She could find a nice wolf pack to join. Maybe if she rolled around in the dirt enough, she could disguise her coat to look like one. They probably wouldn't let her skin one of their dead to get herself a better coat; for some reason, others seemed to frown on that sort of thing. She always got strange or angry looks when she suggested it.
Distractedly, she pawed at the flower, giggling once in a while at the amusing thoughts that passed through her head.

Breath walked slowly on the frozen dirt, willing the ice not to give away his location as he heard the gentle crunching beneath his paws. He looked around and saw that the ground was frozen but still held some vegetation that would undoubtably wilt within a few days. He wouldn't be able to run, not so close to the game he had been hunting for so long. He needed the element of surprise.
Eventually the trail he was following led him into an open plain, and shockingly, he saw one of his own species. He gave her a quick glance and intended to continue on until he saw her condition; an outcast or possibly a rogue. It was clear that she wasn't part of a pack or at least happily welcomed by one. Should he talk to her? Breath thought silently, unmoving. She could ruin his hunt if she didn't know what he was doing.
He decided to brush her off. He couldn't waste time explaining what he was doing to her, and talking might alert his prey of his presence anyways. If she ruined his hunt he would eat her instead.

Lily's tail swished lightly over the ground, she was still regarding the flower with complete fascination. It was going to die anyway, but what if she could take it with her? She stood up and started digging around the flower, loosening the dirt until the roots were all exposed. Then, she gripped the stem between her teeth and pulled it up out of the ground.
Afterwards, she turned her head about, looking around the area before locking onto a distant heat signature. Another Krokotas? Either way, it was warmer than the surrounding area, and mobile! She could keep the flower alive and take it with her...oh, and the other Krokotas she supposed. Whatever.
Trotting lightly over the ground, she headed towards the other Krokotas, flower still in her jaws, dirt falling from the exposed roots. Even without the flower in her mouth, she wouldn't have known what to say to the other Krokotas, so she merely trotted over and began to follow him without a word.

He was only a small distance away; he could taste his prey on the tip of his tongue.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
Breath flinched angrily at each noise. It didn't come from beneath his paws this time, but from behind him. What was this brat thinking!? He turned quickly and gave a low growl at the female. He was careful not to give off a loud noise. "What do you think you're doing?" Breath whispered harshly. "Don't answer. Just stop following me. And be quiet, will you!"

Eh? Lily tilted her head, the flower hanging limply from her jaws. But she wasn't talking! And how was she supposed to answer his question and be quiet at the same time? Act out the answer?
Then again, she was following him, that's what she was doing...and she could act that out just by continuing to do so. So, she grinned, pleased, and kept at her goal, which was following this strange Krokotas. Her steps were light, proving that she could move silently when she tried, even the bracelets dangling from her front paw never made a noise.
She knew what she was doing, but what was he doing? Was he playing a game? Ooo, if so, who was he playing with? Lily didn't know what game it was, so it probably wasn't her. Well, obviously, the only way for her to find out if she couldn't just ask would be to wait and see what kind of game it was. So, she stuck close to the other Krokotas, practically on his heels and walking in his footsteps, completely silent and grinning all the while.

Huffing in annoyance, Breath continued his hunt as he followed the trail he had almost dedicated his entire being to. In a sense he had, as passionate as he was. He probably wouldn't be able to find his way back home easily.
There they were. A small family, weak. Delicious. Breath inched forward, swishing his tail in excitement. The withering grass covered him as he stealthily approached the family, careful not to make too much noise or to disrupt the grass more than the wind would.
The female was quickly forgotten. So... Close. Just one pounce and he would have one of the lumps of meat between his jaws. Slowly, he rolled in his tongue and readied himself for the attack.
