Choosing The Right Therapist For You

A lot of people come to me claiming they had been sexually abused, or that they had had some sort of traumatic childhood experience.

I ask them, "Have you sought therapy?"
And right away they tell me: "It doesn't work."

Well,
It's probably because you haven't found the right therapist. Obviously, if you don't like your therapist, you won't like therapy.
Each consoler works differently for each person, there is no set-in-stone feelings when it comes to consoling.

Through my own personal experience, I went through three different therapists before I found the right one for me.
It takes time and patience to find the right consoler for you.

A list of things you should look for in your therapist:

Do they share the same moral views as you?
What religion are they?
How well is their own family life?
How many clients did they have?
What atmosphere do they work in?
Do you feel comfortable with this person?
How long are they willing to work with you?

Where To Find A Therapist

You can always seek consoling at your school. (But I wouldn't advise it).

If you want a more professional and thorough healing process, I would recommend seeking a therapist with a degree, or someone who is highly recommended.

To find these kinds of people, (depending on your situation) you can call certain hotlines, such as 898-HELP (Pregnancy Crisis Center), or by searching for Gay/Lesbian centers, or even by looking in the Yellow pages.

If you attend church, or some kind or organization, you can search there for therapists and consolers.

IF all else fails, Google is your friend.
