Cayden stood on stage as the party started. He was cheering along with the rest of the crew. Their last heist had been a major success, with no deaths on their side, and only a minor scrape to the paint job of The Black Cutlass. After such an unusually successful heist, there had to be a celebration. As the group cheered, Cayden looked around, he saw Evee go into Max's quarters after taking her own sweet time doing so. After a bit, Max came out holding his triangle, at which point Cayden yelled, "And here he is! Our amazing captain!" As Max shrugged off the cheers and headed for the stage, Cayden noticed a gold object in Max's pocket. He wondered what it could be, but quickly returned his thoughts to the festivities. Surely if Max wanted him to know, he'd tell him.
As Max and Cayden began playing hearty music for their band of rogues, Evee snuck up behind them and tackled them to the floor. With a laugh from all three of them, Cayden quickly jumped up and cheered to the crew, who returned his cheer. The party went on for several hours, dying down only after everyone had nearly killed themselves with grog and ale. As the party broke up, Cayden walked over to Max and Evee, who were now standing just outside the captain's quarters. Cayden walked next to Evee and kissed her on the cheek and said, So, how's my girl doing?" He watched intently for a response from Max, hoping to push a sore spot for the fun of it. Evee chuckled, and Max just stared at Cayden, he then just brushed it off by laughing.
As the three of them headed inside Max's quarters, Cayden shut the door and asked, "What's that gold thing in your pocket Max? Is that what we raided that ship for?" Max sighed and answered, "Yes, Cayden. This... is the Tempus Ex Machina." Cayden stared at Max wide-eyed and unblinking. Had they really found the real thing, Cayden thought. Were they really on their way to finding the ultimate treasure? Would they be wealthy beyond their wildest dreams? Cayden laughed and jumped up and down clearly happy. Max pulled the watch out of his pocket and dangled it in front of Cayden. Cayden stared back with the interest of a kid outside a toy shop on Christmas.

Magnus sat on the edge of The Black Cutlass' railing reading a book. He was on watch tonight, and he was bored. He thought about the last raid, how odd it had been that Maximilian had decided to raid a random civilian ship for a modest amount of treasure. It seemed out of character for the captain. Of course, Magnus would never question the captain, not in the open anyways, at least, not until the time came. Magnus looked around the ship, checking for assailants, there were none. He sighed and closed his book and checked his watch, it was almost time for his friend to join him. Not 5 seconds later, another person came up from the crew's quarters and approached Magnus, "Were you followed? No? Good, let's get down to business."
Magnus hopped off the railing and looked around once more, it never hurt to be too careful. After making sure there was no one else around, Magnus turned toward the figure and said, quietly, "This last raid bothered me... Why were we on that ship? It was too sudden and forceful, all for a mediocre amount of treasure... Leon said he saw the captain take something from the treasure room before he sent everyone else in. I saw something gold in his jacket pocket earlier during the party, that could have been it. Gold... true gold is very rare... could it have been that? Maybe it's something more... what kind of treasure would possess the captain to do that? Oh well, I'll find out eventually." Magnus stared at the figure, as though listening to it. He nodded his head a few times, then said, apparently replying, "No, no I don't think he's a worthy captain, too much of a jester and a goof to make a good captain... Him and that annoying b*****d Cayden, the both of them, they need to take everything more seriously. What about Evengelina? She's just the captain's queen, she's more serious, but the fact that she puts up with him means she wouldn't be much better."
Magnus now appeared to be having a conversation with the figure, who wasn't talking, but Magnus seemed to be replying to unspoken questions. He sighed and continued, "I'll hold off on the mutiny until I know just what it is the captain has. No, and that's final. I said, NO!" Magnus screamed at the figure, who still hadn't spoken. Suddenly light flooded the deck as the captain's door opened and Max walked out, saying, "You yelling at nothing again Magnus? Well, stop it, the crew probably wouldn't appreciate it. You must be bored out of your mind, come have a drink with me. I doubt anyone's going to attack us when we're 40,000 feet in the air. Come on, it'll be fun."
Max smiled as he waved Magnus over to him. Magnus groaned quietly, glanced at the empty spot where the figure had been standing before Max arrived and replied, "Thanks sir, I'd be glad to. The company is certainly welcome." Magnus walked over to Max and glanced at his jacket pocket, nothing golden, he'd have to probe a little deeper, maybe after a few drinks Max's lips would loosen. As he headed inside the captain's quarters, he smiled evilly to himself.
