So what relevancy does this topic have to do with debating/discussing atheism?

Well, obviously, it's making a joke, so that's directly relevant.

But I suppose we could debate how, many people think it's stupid and have a deep bias hate for not only atheism, but for how Atheists in general have hate towards other religions?

I don't think "atheists (no need to capitalize the word atheist) in general have hate towards other religions". Where did you get that impression from?

Considering how all those gung-ho atheists seem to just looooooove bashing other religions and their followers, its a pretty common perception to have. What can I say, some people just love to argue. sweatdrop

Honestly, I'm atheist for the sole purpose of staying out of all that religious drama. Nowadays, its not about religion, but the image of people of your faith that people pay attention to. Oh, Catholics are bad because their priests are molesters, Muslims are terrorists and the Jews are intentionally screwing our country by existing. You hear it everywhere, but no one ever talks about the actual religion.

Drama, drama, drama.

PS: I don't want to hear any hating because of that paragraph, because I do NOT agree with those statements. Just examples of religious bias in the general public. Kthxbai. whee

I think religious people often confuse any kind of critique of their religion as "bashing". Sure, there's actual bashing too, but that's not exclusive to atheist ( as kind of pointed out in Shouza's post ), and I don't know why that should be the defining "trait" of atheists. The main problem I had with that post was the "in general" part.

And frankly Shouza, you're not avoiding any drama by being an atheist. After all, atheists are immoral, irrational religion bashers who hate God - in general.

To each his own, then. Some people think they're better than others who put their faith in things they cannot see and thus the religious bashing. But in my opinion, both sides are gloating like immature brats who claim to have the better toy, you know?

I, for one, chose to separate myself from religion because I simply find it impossible to believe in something I can't see for myself. I'm not saying its irrational, but I myself just can't grasp the concept. I'm a proud person, and I can't fathom the idea of being ruled by a higher power who I will never see, will never know, and demands praise every Sunday.

But that's just me. I'm not going to go hate on other religions because I think they must have some potential that I'm not grasping to attract millions of followers. Maybe I just haven't seen it yet. sweatdrop

I'm just commenting on this part of your post. I think you said it well. There are the religious people who get all self-righteous because they think they're saved and therefore better then everyone else and then you have the atheists who get all self-righteous because they think they're some kind of genius who can use words like "reason" and "rational" as opposed to the flock of 'blind followers'.

It's just two sides of the same coin.

*note* I was just talking about the ones who that applies to, obviously not all Christians and atheists are like that.

That's more characteristic of the general (younger) population. The philosophers and people who actually think about these issues have some really good points.
A few days ago I went to this "debate" organised by an american christian group. I was expecting a lot of proselytizing, but to my surprise, it was very interesting to talk to them and learn about why they believe what they believe. Ended up going for a beer with two of them and had some really interesting conversations. I still think they're wrong, though smile

I don't think it's a generational thing, I've seen it in all ages but there definitely are a lot of those gung ho kids out there.

That debate sounds like it was interesting 3nodding

I wish I could get into an actual debate with someone in person. It's always a one-sided conversation when I try to do it face to face with people.
