Where should I start?

I'm 16 years old, still in the ninth grade. That makes me about two or three grades behind. Despite this, I'm dually enrolled in a community college. I'm on my second semester now. I'm also taking Japanese lessons at another campus at a small Japanese Center. Learning another langauge helps, I think. I also took guitar lessons last year, my teacher said I was pretty good, but I quit, because apparently my mom couldn't afford it. I still remember some notes but I might have a review certain things if I'm going to ever learn again.

I think I'm still going to stay in high school and stay dually enrolled in college. The GED thing is very tempting, but I rather avoid it. It seems really basic, and I'm not sure if it will help me get a good job in life. I've also heard bad things about it.

I'm starting to think that I think in a certain pattern: I go all over the place, not staying in the same static line. I don't think in left or right and because of that, I tend to have a hard time driving as well. I have a permit, and whenever my mom tells me to turn left, I might turn right by accident. I know what my left and right is, just not subconsciously.

Do you have the same problem/thinking pattern/asset/whatever? Have you ever noticed that you think in a certain way that affects your artwork, or even your life?

Also, am I the only one that's two grades behind or something like it? gonk

Yes, I do. Instead of making some whole beautifully thought out, well-educated sounding response, I'll take the easy way out and just tell you that my thinking pattern is classified as major depression.

No, I'm not two grades behind. I was the opposite back in grade school. I had completed 12th grade math by the time I was done with 5th grade. As I progressed, though, there really wasn't much left for me to do which I'm sure only fueled my depression further. It did leave loads of room open for independent art study classes, however, which was nice.

Now that I'm in college, it's been the opposite, which is frustrating. I switched majors a year into my studies, which delayed my graduation, and I also had to take two quarters off for surgery. It really sucks. neutral

I just have a hard time committing myself to anything with a long-term goal. I've changed college/uni majors three times now, and am still not satisfied with the direction I'm going in.

I really hated having to go through school and every year narrow down my options more. That's the way it works here. It is a good system but it just bothers me because I am such a Jack of all trades, master of none type.

Now I like what I am doing but I would be unhappy in life if I just fell out of Uni into a job that I will have for my entire life. It's just a boring waste. Ah *sigh*, I guess they call this "growing up".

This is probably insensitive of me, but shouldn't this kind of thing be reserved for journals and the like? @___@ That's silly, of course the way you think will affect your artwork and your life. If you're sulky and see life through bruise-colored glasses you can't help but be miserable and make dreary artfarts.

What happened? Were you super sick? Are you trying for a three year program at the highschool? @0@

I've... changed my major once- when I first went into this school, I was aiming for illustration but then went into animation and haven't looked back. ^^' I was never held back nor pushed forward, although I've always been told I was smart... I dunno. Lately I've felt as though my creativity/"smartness" has possibly declined, but I think mostly it's because I'm 21 and the booze and smokes have probably just killed their share of brain cells and hopefully I'll grow them back eventually. ^^' I don't know what advice to give other than seriously- it's YOUR life. Take control of it. Sure, be practical, but you're the one that's got to live it. What would honestly make you happy? How could you obtain that goal within your abilities and what you have in your grasp to help you? (Just because you can't affoard lessons doesn't mean you have to just up and quit the guitar for example- you can get second hand books from all over the place- teach yourself! You know the basics from your lessons, from there it should be easier! Not as easy as having an instructor, but it's better than just up and quitting. XP Hell, I couldn't affoard art lessons- but my dad bought me some Hogarth books and I saved up and bought some other reference books and taught myself. :3 Luckily he could critique me, but yeah- I'm sure you get my meaning.)

Thanks, that was a really thoughtful post. I appreciate it.

I'm also slowly teaching myself the guitar again. It's not an everyday thing though.
