I am a pre-freshmen tuba player in the Druid hills marching band and our season just ended today but im very sad because i know that our band could have been really great this year but the band was so misbehaved that we could never come close to our full ability. But seeing as im a rookie i could not say anything to any of the other students about acting out. Has this happened to anyone else but me?

I think it's pretty common actually. My first three years in high school marching band we took first in division every time and often overall, even against the huge schools (we were pretty small, 80 people max). But my senoir year, the show was uninteresting and none of the people were really all that into it, so they just goofed off and never really tried to make it any better. So when we lost, we'd try less, so we'd lose more, rinse and repeat. It wasn't that we couldn't be an amazing band: we knew we could because we had done it before. It was just that no one was respecting anyone and it was pretty much a waste of time. I hear they are back on top again this year, though. And don't be afraid to speak up because you are a new and younger. The DM and assistant DM for my old band this year are sophmores and they rock it hard. Some times a fresher take on things is really helpful.

Ugh. I know how you feel. And I'm a section leader and still can't really do anything about it because no one has any respect in my band. :

Oh my gosh, my band's not the only band who is in disorder because people are acting like they don't care?! My band's attitude was horrible. A lot of people were so disrespectful and unfocused. It was, and I hate saying this, no wonder we lost our first band competition in almost last place when my first three years of marching band we were practically on top.

I agree with Cherry, Oreo. This is my last year in band. So, yeah, you have more time with the band to make it really good.

well this year was good but next year is not looking so great because our DM this year is sort of a douche and has been telling people to act up on our Assistant DM and he told them to do it all next year and since i have heard that im gonna be going ape s**t on people that dont listen to her because i know our Assistant DM and she will break and probably have a nervous breakdown (she isnt loud at all and takes lots of stuff personally) if they do it, and since i feel like being a good band next year i will have to help her get the respect she deserves and i dont care if i scare them away cause they are only bringing the band down when they act like children, sheesh, so pretty much dont be afraid to fix behavior issues
