I started my period last week. I usually have a very heavy period and it ends like for a week. No it is 9 days since I started my period and it doesn't seem like it is going to end soon. Is there something wrong? I am only 15.

Edit:I missed my period for about 4 months

At your age it's totally normal to have long periods, short periods or to skip them all together. Most doctors start to worry after about two weeks or if you start feeling weak from blood loss and that kind of thing. As long as you feel ok you should probably wait a couple more days but let your parents know what's happening just in case.

Periods are very screwy when you get them at first. Just make sure you drink lots of water and eat enough iron so you don't start feeling tired.

A lot of people don't 'even out' until they're in their 20s, or never. Not to scare you! Mine balanced out at 19ish, and I found that exercise was a great way to keep them shorter.

As others have said, it's fairly normal for your age. It's not a bad idea, however, to see a doctor. It's possible to have complications and you may want to consider going on the pill or something similar to help regulate your period.

Without the Pill, I had a 7 day cycle, so it's not unheard of. If you are concerned and want to do something to check it out and your options, highly recommend going to a gynecologist.

Before I went on the Pill at 17, I was usually regular to within a few days, and my cycle used to be about a week, myabe 5 or 6 days if I was lucky.

After I went on the Pill, it came on the exact same day after a few months, and my cycle shortened a bit.

Seeing a doctor, just in case, might not be a bad idea though.

On relation to this topic but about me, I started having a period about 4 years ago, and for the first 2.5 years it was semi-regular - occuring about every month and a half to two months, but now it will only come every two months at the soonest. In the past year and a half I have only had 7 periods and am wondering if that was anything to be concerned about since those seven each lasted from 2-4 days with really light bleeding.

Seeing your doctor/gyno about it. smile Even if we had an idea of what was wrong and/or why, it's always best to get a medical professional's opinion. We are not medical professionals, and can't diagnose you with anything.

How much do you weigh? If you are too skinny, that can prevent menstruation (most professional gymnasts, for example, do not get their periods).

There could be other things wrong. I would recommend you make an appointment with a gyno just to check everything out.

You're period when you're younger will vary. When I first got mine I had it for a week and then didn't have it for 9 months. It's normal. You may be "finding" your schedual.

If you don't think that's it normal you need to go and talk to you doctor.

I'll also throw out that being sexually active does weird things to your period. it's all about hormones sometimes.

Now I feel light headed if I stand up for a while.

Go see a doctor. We can't diagnose you with anything, even if we are throwing out suggestions as to what might be wrong.

Though yes, missing your period for several months when you're young is normal.

If you're light-headed, it can be due to illness, lack of proper nutrition, diet, etc.
