It was the middle of the first semester of the new school year, a time where panic spread through the air for a bout a week as midterm project deadlines where given out by the teachers. Such was the life of the High Schooler, and Valley High was no exception to this.
"Today we will be discussing your mid-term projects, worth 35% of your grade." Droned the AP Biology teacher from the front of the class room.
Koorie simply glanced up from her notes and her open text book as the details of the project where revealed; it was going to be a typical dissection project, she was sure of it. Not like dissection was a problem with her, and she was one of the few girls in the class that offered to get her hands dirty when handling the insides of the animal. And by 'offered' it was really meant that she took the scalpel out of some students hand and just did all the work herself.
"This project will be a research assignment done in pairs." The teacher's voice broke through Koorie's thoughts like a bullet through glass. Jerking up with a frown etched on her face, she watched as their teacher placed a baseball cap on the desk in the front, strips of paper inside. "Each of your names are on a slip of paper, this will be a first come first serve so if you pull a name that's already called you'll pull again. These pairs are final, and once they've been chosen I'll go over the project itself."
Eyes narrowing into a glare that could burn holes through concrete, she watched as the teacher started at the front of the room, walking through the front row and having the students call out the names they pulled. It would be a while before she was reached, seeing as she was seated in the near back of the room by the wall with the windows.

William was a diligent student. He was a bright kid, that was obvious. Though what he had in academic skills, he lacked in social ones. In all of his classes, he was the one kid sitting alone at the front of the room, his eyes glued to the teacher and his hand to his notes.
Ironically, however, he didn't give a s**t about school. He could care less about his grades, he didn't care whether or not he was at the top of the class. The honest truth is that William enjoyed learning. And as a generally bored teenager, of course he would leap at any chance for entertainment.
But, this was not entertaining. No, this was downright bothersome. William preferred to work alone on these sort of projects, and it was clear that the teacher wouldn't make an exception for him. When the teacher came to him, William took a small, quiet breath. He hated these things. They made him nervous.
Will reached a cautious hand into the hat, fishing his hand around in hopes that he'd get one of the slacker kids, someone who he could do the entire project and get it done without having to actually interact with them. But, no.
He got her.
That chick who sat at the back of the room.
He frowned slightly, his gaze sliding back to her before announcing the name of his partner.
"Koorie."

As the first of the names had been called out, Koorie rested her elbow on her desk and stared out the window while putting her head on her palm. In her right hand, her pencil tapped against her note book as she frowned. This was torturous.
And just when she though things couldn't get worse, he called her name.
Turning her head, she shot William a disdainful glare from across the room; of all the rotten luck, she had to be paired with him. And, judging from the class grades, he actually did his work, which meant she would actually have to work with him. Fantastic.
Her day only seemed to be made worse as the professor announced that for the rest of the unit would be partner based, meaning the seating chart would be changed so that all the pairs were together. Effing wonderful. Shooting William the most hateful glare she could muster, she let her gaze drill into him. Oh, she was not moving from her desk; he'd have to come to her.

William's thought process was just about the same as Koorie's. He knew Koorie got good grades, she was a grade below him, right? If she didn't, she wouldn't be in AP Bio.
William sighed, turning around in his seat to look at her, aiming to play the same game, but her glare burnt into him and he sighed. Gathering his stuff, he shuffled over to her desk and took an empty seat next to her. He wasn't good at introductions or anything social really, so he simply opened the text book and began to flip through it.
"Alright, so...she said the research project is based around chapter sixty-nine..." He muttered, flipping to the page.
Oh ******** me, he thought.
This wasn't good.
"The reproductive habits of mammals."

The entire time, Koorie's face held an irritated scowl as she watched and waited for William to come across the room and sit down. Once he'd settled on the seat next to her, she turned her attention to her notes and text book. She was probably the youngest in the class, being a full class behind the rest of the Seniors in the class. It didn't seem to affect her school work or attitude, being younger than most of the students, and as William spoke aloud their research topic she felt her stomach drop.
"Wonderful," she said dryly checking the table of contents of her text book to confirm that, indeed, they were doing the reproductive chapter. "Because I have nothing else better to do over the weekends than to sit back, watch, and analyze animal pornography."
