What is the grading structure of your style I have noticed a fellow Wing Chun student had a difrent grading system so I thought I would ask about other systems.


In my Wing Chun class we are graded when our Sifu thinks there are enough people needing to grade. It is a little strange I have jumped ranks for knowing more than what I was realy ranked at I have traind in Wing Chun for at least five years and am curently going to school out side my home town so I am taking a break. Our ranking was created rather recently from what I heard when asked to come up with a ranking system my teacher said William Cheung said every one was a black sash but I guess that changed. I went from white to dark Blue then brown to black and have stayed that way for a wile now I talked to my teacher about gradeing again but have not got the chance curently I should be a green sash I already now the Biu Jee form or thrusting fingers and aplications of most of it I plan to stay with Wing Chun I want to reach instrucktor level.

This is a link to our gradeing structure I have found some difreces in how our teacher grades but I have never been graded by the grand master befor so I need to ask a few of the Sifu's that are in our class to see if they did get graded difrently I would like to be graded by the grand master once at least I think he has to grade you when you reach master levle which is red sash yellow is instructor.

We test into the system to determine the advancement of starting students, then we just cover material as we go, and test on it once its learned. We have only five ranks, and I'm at the third rank right now. It should take me another 3 to 5 years at least before I'm black belt, if that.

In my Wing Chun class we are graded when our Sifu thinks there are enough people needing to grade. What I mean is that most of our class are older students that have been there for a long time we have two master level teachers who traind with our grand master and about four others who are at the level of instructor some of them graded at the time I did. Few people stay in class long a friend who started with me quit after a year he never took it serious. Due to the few newer stoodents when I began all new stoodents trained for about six months then tesedt but at the level I am at now we don't test as offten we wait tell we are told we are ready to test then if we pass we go on. I was told by our Sifu that he wont test us if we aren't ready. I think it may be a good thing that we grade as slow as we do it alows us to learn more befor we move on I have said no to gradeing at least once off the top of my head and have also been unable to go test for awile now.

What he ment is that it just shows what level your at it holds up your pants I think he just thought it was stupid and may make people show off traditionaly there were no belt system teachers took on few stoodents and new them well.
