Do you value the letter or the items inside it?

So I saw this guy in the exchange with 116 June 2007 letters.
LMP was 500k, and he insists on selling it for 440k saying "Hey, it's 60k off." But then the items inside it are worth less. The Cloud having the highest worth is only at 420k; Mythrill Halo at 219k and Western Zodiac 110k.

The question is:
When buying letters, do you consider the items inside it or the LMP and ABP of the letter itself?
I myself consider the items inside the letter but I got quite confused on how the guy insisted.

There are several people who collect letters simply because they're generally rarer than the items inside (even if they're kind of useless in that form). Those people will generally pay the letter price. Most people I know pay the value of the item worth the most that comes from the letter. It all depends on what you want to do with it.

Nothing is ever as black and white as it is in theory, but this is my opinion: Regardless of what you get from it, the letter is still a different item from the items inside it. That doesn't mean you should completely disregard the items you can get from it, but you should acknowledge that letters and the actual MC are definitely different market items.

Think about CI singles and CI bundles; you don't pay 810k for a 9 pack because the singles are selling for 90k each; you pay 810k because the market price of the bundle itself is 810k. Same goes for the single itself: you don't pay 90k for the single because you have a 1% chance of getting something worth 9m; you pay 90k because the market price is 90k.

The price of the CI single (MCs) is already naturally factored into the price of the bundle (letter) by the time you buy/bid on it. You don't have to make it a primary concern when buying but it's definitely not a bad idea to keep it in your mind.

It used to be that people would value the letter over the items inside but lately I've noticed a shift towards valuing the items inside over the actual letter. At this point I think it depends on who you talk to. In essence even though the letter is not an equipable item it is nevertheless still an item and to some extent can be viewed as the third (or fourth in some cases) MC of every month-- the envelope included will never be released again. Because they get opened as time progresses less and less are available, theoretically the letter should be worth more. But like I said there seems to be a recent shift towards items over letters, and that's where Lunatics reply comes in over letter collectors. Most letter collectors that I know of will pay the price of the highest priced item within in and on a rare occasion slightly more.

I've been collecting letters. I have all of them starting from Dec 03 to now (aside from 3 in 04 and one in 05). I generally look at the item with the higher price and depending on the price of the item, go up accordingly. I think I've gone from like 5k to 100k to upgrade a ninja headband into letter form (july 04 Keep in mind, this was maybe a few months ago, and it was an older letter)

I do agree with Cryptex, in some cases, when you look at LMP or ABP the items was worth more then the letter. I guess its the fact that the older the letter, the less likely you are to ACTUALLY open it, thus it becomes a bit useless. Plus, why spend more to open something when you can get it for cheaper?

I checked some of my older letters. I'm finding a lot of them have dropped compared to their old prices. Guess I should have waited sweatdrop

I'm not sure if this is really relevent, but in the Exchange a couple of times I see people say: Selling Ninja Band; ect. But they actually trade the Sealed Letter to the buyer instead.

Good to know. The last few I'm missing are costly and if I don't have to pay more. I don't want too. sweatdrop
