I think they took little red riding hood too literally. When I put myself in the position of the author I think he would have just thought it was a funny story. But I think if any lesson was to be gathered from it it would have been like, "don't go running into the forest, its dangerous", and "be careful while in the forest".
I'd like to read the original Grimm story, but don't have the moneys yet.
Its like the Kappa, it was (supposedly) made up to keep children from running into the water and killing themselves. Sounds like a good idea to me! XD
I haven't read about people taking the Kappa literally, like that turtles are evil and such. But people do claim to see it and it is under cryptozoology. But at least they're afraid of it, and aren't killing it mercilessly. Oh, and they even made it "cute". The Kappa is seen in harvest moon, and has adorable products fashioned after it.
