Willow smith
Will smiths little girl had just come out with a song. Very harmless kiddy pop sounding and her age oriented song. She's only nine years old. And though the song isn't perfect. Again it's very harmless and pop cute.

I haven't been aware of this song until very recently when a class mate mentioned it and was talking about what a great video it was. So I looked it up, and was disappointed. I don't particularly care for this empty, soulless "song." It lacks substance and to be honest, it sounds like everyone else out now *cough*Rihanna*cough*. Of course same-sound-syndrome has been a plague for years, so meh -_- . Also, I don't really care for the people involved in making this video, and that includes the ones that made Willow.

What exactly is "empty" or "soulless" about the song?

Don't you think that's a lot of scrutiny for a song made for a 9 year old girl to sing?

Also.. kids at that age just want to have fun. They don't want people trying to shove "substance" and "meaning" down their throats. They want to have fun and be entertained.

The song has a positive message and unless it's just generally not your type of music.. there's nothing wrong with it.

I don't just like when Hollywood Stars use pretty much pimp their own kids. Why can't they just go to school and be educated? We have enough people in the media. We need more lawyers, scientist, and doctors especially in the colored America.

They probably did what any other parent does when their child shows exceptional ability and/or interest in a certain area.

Use what resources they have (in the Smith's case, a lot) to nurture and develop that talent and interest.

I agree with both your replies, Mr. Crawley! 3nodding

I agree that a 3rd/4th-grader isn't going to show much lyrical depth in her songs at her age, which is fine; let a child be a child.

Also, there's nothing wrong with doing what you love in life; too many of us get stuck in jobs we hate for most of our lives. Bravo for a kid being able to do what she likes doing for right now.

Those kids that really want to be doctors and lawyers need to be nurtured, too; I think their hopes & dreams too often get squashed by parents/teachers/peers.

As for the actual video, I actually like the choreography in this video MUCH better. Plus, all the dancers seem to be the same age. I didn't like how Willow's video and her live performance on a TV show featured so many dancers who were obviously much older than her. Other than that, it's kid-like & cute -- good for her! 3nodding

I still think it's pimping children. As of course kids like doing what their parents do. Doesn't mean the OUGHT to though. She should enjoy being a child.

I love that video. I think she IS having fun in the moment. We all have fun in different ways. If she wants to sing, I'm actually happy for her that she's in a place where she's able to sing. She's doing her own little thing and the starpower of her parents really isn't the factor here--she's shining all on her own.

I like that her message is positive and all about celebrating yourself and life, and especially that hair. There was plenty of depth and soul when I saw that little one performing in that video. Who knows where it will go? She might do it for a year, might end up doing it for the rest of her life and carving out her own niche. As I've heard it, she's the one who wanted to sing, not her parents trying to pimp her out.

I'd rather see little girls singing about this than the other tripe I've seen them soaking up like little sponges. I have a 3 year old in my watch who sadly knows about "making it rain" and all that. That's all her mom's influence, though. Anyway, it's a great song.

well I dont think the message is that positive. Since whipping your hair back and forth is suppose to be something to do when haters get big. And it's kinda hard to believe that an eight year old has that many haters. Especially since she just came out with the single. But it's a harmless song. Not a real good coming out song. But harmless none the less.

There's so much Willow hate. She's just a kid, so I don't understand it.

I remember in that even elementary school girls would talk about each other behind backs and things like that, so I'm thinking that the song is more about that kind of thing and to just brush it off and be yourself (etc.)
