That's a lot to think about.

Do you want a second child? Do you have the time for a second child? Do you have the money for a second child? Is there a spare room in your house for when that child gets a bit bigger? Are you able to take time off from school and/or work so you can deliver the baby? Are you able to take time off from school and/or work or bring the baby with you so that you can breastfeed?

If you answered yes to all those questions then talk to your friend. Let him know that you want to the keep baby and that he is welcome to be involved in his or her life but that it isn't necessarily required either if he'd rather not. Avoid cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Eat right, take prenatal vitamins, and schedule a doctor's appointment.

If you answered no to any of those questions, look into abortion or adoption and get some birth control after. You should always have at least one reliable method of birth control that you know how to use.

No one is required to breastfeed. It's the mothers choice.
My mother didn't breastfeed me, I was just fine.
Now they have formula with all of the vital nutrients, and all formulas has to follow all of the FDA's regulations to be put on the shelf.
I mean sure breastfeeding is better but it is not a requirement anymore.
So if she says no to breastfeeding then so what, she shouldn't abort or put the child up for adoption for it.

Studies show that formula fed children have a much higher risk of a wide variety of health issues. Formula just cannot compare. It says that right on formula canisters.

Formula was created for women who cannot breastfeed, whether because they don't make enough breast milk, they are sick and breastfeeding may be dangerous to the baby, they have to take medication that may be passed through the breast milk and be dangerous for the baby, etc. It is absolutely not meant to replace breast milk for women who just don't feel like breastfeeding even though they are able to.

So it's not exactly a choice unless someone just plain doesn't care about their child's health. And if that is the case then they shouldn't be having children.

Both of you are right in my opinion. Yes Breastfeeding is better for the child but as Testicular said its not required and therefore you should not give up your baby for adoption or have an abortion. Thanks for the advice guys I think I will remember this information as it gets later into the pregnancy :]

If you know something is better for your baby and it's even free for you, wouldn't you pretty much consider it a requirement? Breast milk shouldn't have to be an optional luxury for a baby if his mother is able to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding isn't just for the wealthy. lol If you want a personal opinion on breastfeeding, I say do it. Not only is it good for your baby, its just such an amazing feeling. There's load of other health benefits for you, as well.

Lorien is right, formula is meant for women who cannot for a variety of reasons. But in this day and age, breastfeeding is seen as disgusting and unnatural which is so untrue considering its the most natural thing you CAN do.

Ultimately, that decision is up to you, though. We cannot make it for you.

I would do it but... I want to work.
I want to provide for my family and I cant do that while worrying about feeding a baby.
I know about the pro's and con's but I mean most babies aren't breastfed and they do fine.
All of the children in my family weren't and they did great.
I have to work, the fiance works too.

But I feel lazy and horrible if I'm not working, I need to pull my own weight.
Plus extra money coming in makes life easier.

Then get a breast pump and keep bottles of breast milk for the baby. Then you can still work and not have to rely on formula to keep the baby healthy.
