Saturday was a good day, Lesner lost, Oritz lost. It made me happy. Then I watched football today. Lots of great things, many surprises that caught me off guard and happy to see. But others I could only shake my head and wonder Good lord what is up with the NFL this year? Well here were some of the things that crossed my thoughts today.
1. More Issues with Bad Officiating- It seems like every year we get complaints and examples of where officiating fails us. Today we saw two major examples of how questionable, and just down right bad officiating changed the outcomes of two different games. I was shocked to see Buffalo put up the fight they did against the Ravens. Taking an early lead, loosing it, then battling back to force overtime. But as the Bills were driving the ball, and lost it on a Ray Lewis strip, many experts and fans alike, even Baltimore fans question whether if forward momentum was brought to a hault, and if the whistle should have blown the play dead. When Forward momentum is lost, the play is over. Though some question this, I thought it was pretty blatant that the play was over before the strip. However, the Roethlisberger fumble vs. Miami, that was a blatant fumble which Miami did recover. While the Ravens/Buffalo call was questionable at best, this one was just a bad call. And Pittsburgh should be thankful to get away with that one and move on to 5-1. But I have to say, I think Miami has demonstrated a good way future opponents vs. the Steelers should attack the team and face them. But now I'm off topic. Bottom line is, once again officiating has made some bad calls, which unfortunately changed the outcome of two games in favor of the AFC North.
2. Wait? Who the Hell are Those Guys?- 59-14, that was the final score in which Denver lost by Sunday. Was it against an elite Jets or Steelers team? No, the Raiders! I cannot believe this team, who lost 17-9 to the winless 49ers last week, in which many thought we have seen Jason Campbell in his last start, would bounce back in such a devistating fashion. Their 8 touchdowns and 59 points scored ties a team record for most points scored by the Raiders in Team history. I want to know where this team came from, and what they did to the real Oakland Raiders? Granted the Broncos aren't necessarily the best team in the NFL, not by a long shot, but to loose that badly to one of the biggest laughing stocks of the NFL for the past decade. Unbelieveable! Well the good news is that for the Broncos who were embarrassed today, and for the 49ers who let yet another game slip away, one of these two teams will bounce back next week with a win in Jolly ol' England.
3. Bad Teams aren't as Bad as They Seem- From the Winless Bills nearly pulling an upset over top notch Baltimore, to Cleveland's stunning victory over the Superbowl Champion Saints, Every team with two wins or less has this season put so much heart into their games, and in several cases fought good fights and nearly walked away with tremendous upsets and victories. The Bills are winless, but could very easily be a 2-4 team. The 1-6 49ers have lost 4 of their games by a combined 11 points, less than three points each. And despite being 1-6 aren't completely out of the division race. The Browns picked up their second win today, but fought so hard in their first two games loosing them by 3 and 2 points respectively, they could be a 4 win team. And Detroit, a loss to Green Bay by 2, Philadelphia by 3, and an opener to Chicago which I don't need to remind anyone they should have won. Bottom line is, bad teams in the past have had a reputation of being blown out and an embarrassment to their organization throughout the season. And yes all of these teams have had bad losses, but have all played tougher, and have record which I don't think fully justify how good they are. Before you could make many mistakes against these bad teams and still win by double digets, but we are seeing, as New Orleans and Baltimore can tell you after today. Don't take these bad teams lightly, they have the talent and the heart to steal a victory from under your noses. And if Buffalo continues to play the way it played today, it won't be long before they start accumilating W's.
PLAYERS SHOUT OUT
Darren McFadden (Oakland Raiders)- Today was a career day for McFadden, 16 rushes for 165 yards 3 rushing TD's and 1 receiving TD for 4 on the day. I can't remember the last time I've seen Raider Nation this excited over a Victory.
David Bowens (Cleveland Browns)- Cleveland might have lost this game today if it wasn't for the big plays of David Bowens, two INT returned for Touchdowns. What a performance to have when facing the defending Superbowl champions.
DeAngelo Hall (Washington Redskins)- Where I think Cleveland might not have won without the play making of Bowens, I know for a fact the Redskins would have lost today if not for Hall. 4 interceptions including one for 92 yards and a Touchdown, and the Redskins only won by 3.

The 'bottom' of the NFL is looking really good right now. The Rams, Bucs, and Lions are three teams that look really good. As crazy as it sounds one of them might just be in the playoffs next year if the Bucs don't do it this year. It's unfortunate that the West divisions still suck overall though, but hey can't ask for everything.
The officiating this year has just been bad all around. Bad no calls and horrible calls in general, and really bad possession calls. Not sure what the problem is but they need to fix it and quick. It's making games change completely. Pass interference calls and endzone decisions being what I think are the worst.

Things get worse for the Boys in Dallas: Not only do they lose their QB(Tony Romo),how can the Cowboys bounce back. The worst thing for the Cowboys is they lose dramatically, against the Giants. It's tough to say that the Cowboys luck seem to be getting worse. Since Tony Romo got hurt, who is to blame here. The O-line, the QB pocket presence. Heck if the Cowboys need something to look at it needs to be themselves. They make stupid penalties, in earlier weeks, now with their QB down it's safe to say that their season is over.
