Another topic thought up in a discussion elsewhere...I couldn't find a way to meld both the zombie apocalypse and the potential of humans in the same thing, so I just made two different threads. ^^; But anyways, what do YOU think it is? I personally think humans have potential to do GREAT good. I mean, with people like us that really care for the planet out there, just like with life on other planets, there HAS to be more out there, right? Amirite?....please tell me I'm right...

I definitely agree there is more life out there, and im not talking little green men who fly in saucers and stick things up your bum, I mean with the countless different galaxies and systems out there, youd have to be totally ignorant to think we are alone, its just a statistical impossibility. As for the potential of mankind... Ive been witness to acts of kindness that go above and beyond what is expected (I could tell at least one story) and then I have been witness to a heck of a lot more of the opposite. I think greed plays the biggest factor in what drags us down as a species, and I think until we see that unless we work together for a better cause, then competing with one another to line our pockets and reach our goals by stepping on the heads of others, we will ultimately destroy ourselves...and worse...is that the damage wont be limited to just us...but as we see in the case of BP oil spill...it will take down so many species of animals and the natural ecosystems with it.

Lets share hopeful stories, it'll show us that there ARE reasons for us to continue caring I think. Or it'll push us to strive to do something similar...at least it would for me.
I pretty much feel the same way though Kin, about both things. Humans for the most part are more concerned about "self" and not enough about the world as a whole...it sounds like a lot, but even the little things count, but for stupid reasons, or even scarier, no discernible reason at all, they don't do those things, and it bothers this one, a lot. >.<

With a good attitude, yes, human can make the planet as a beautiful paradise. With a wrong attitude, no, they can destroy the planet.

I guess that I don't understand about the whole business race thing. With one winner & everyone else loses is so lame! rolleyes Something like that doesn't make any sence to me. I crying when I see anyone hurting people or bird or tree... well y'all get the idea.

I think that the human species greatest strength is its ability to affect its fellow humans and the environment around it. The problem is that we spend so much time running around and competing with each other, that we end up destroying a lot more stuff that we stabilize. We're so concerned with making something new that we forget that what we have can be slightly altered and just as effective.
I think our greatest potential is to learn compassion. The problem is that I think compassion is LEARNED. And when people are constantly having to worry more about feeding themselves, or finding work, or being a "winner" rather than a loser, things get messed up. I think there needs to be a change in how we raise, educate, and foster the abilities of the children AND adults of our society.
If that makes any sense... whee
