Literate Roleplay. 3-4+ moderately sized paragraphs (multiple sentences). You must be 15 years of age or older to play. I'm sorry. Now that I'm 18 I established that rule.
Once upon a time there was an orphaned prince in a lonely kingdom… far, far away.
His castle was covered in shadows and thorns to keep light at bay, and all around his subjects were screaming, “Freedom, shall we pray!!” But even with a heart so cold, in the warming rays of may, he met a man of glittering gold with eyes of steely gray. But this man loved a girl with hair of wheat and eyes the shade of hay. With a blackened heart and a morbid soul, the prince’s jealousy led him astray, so he called upon his advisor and foolishly did dare to say, “Destroy her land! Destroy her home! Destroy that Princess Fay!” The childish prince never knew the game he did so dare to play was with a King of warrior blood and a kingdom by the bay. His world was dark and his heart was hurt but ne’re could he lay. To rest his eyes would mean certain death, for soldiers came his way. So he remained secure as his army fell by day by day by day and waited for the time to come when he, himself, would pay. And when the King came to his door, eyes no longer gay, he asked if he could ever forgive, to which the Gray said “Nay!”
The prince was locked away for five years as the silver-eyed king planned his demise. During that time, he was allowed no human communication whatsoever. Food was slipped under the door and all were forbidden from offering him even so much as the slightest eye contact. The little prince learned what it meant to truly succumb to madness in that lonely cell and he soon prayed for death. The love for the King, of course, had seeped away-- replaced by hatred and fear. His petty jealousies and spoiled whining morphed into exhaustion and guilt. He was ready to die.
However, on day preceding his execution, the angry King requested the prince NOT be put to death. “I would like to keep the prince as my own personal servant. There is no greater shame to a royal than to be forced to work for one’s enemy. He clean my castle, care for my children, and warm my bed in place of my deceased wife,” the young King said. And so it was.

Sometimes, the notches on the wall told a story. It was this thought that Prince Angel Wilkshire clung to when the darkness of his cell seemed to engulf him. Every time he made a scratch on the cold stone surface, he was drawn back into the past. He would see the lives of those who had rotted in the cell before him. Somehow, their memory lived on in the stone, in the hay, and in the tiniest beams of light that filtered through a small, barred window. His notches were among hundreds of thousands that littered the cell. They coated each wall, from top to bottom. Had he truly been in this god-forsaken place for five years?
He remembered his advisor-- a thin, fox-faced man who had waited on him hand and foot. His name was Viktor. Every order he had given the poor servant in the past seemed fickle now-- childish. ‘Fetch me a goblet of water.’ He would whine. ‘Polish my boots.’ he would shriek. ‘DESTROY THAT PRINCESS FAY!’ That last order still resonated near the furthest edges of his mind. His advisor had carried it out without question, kissing his hand tenderly before making his leave. He had not seen his loyal slave for five years and sometimes he wondered if the sly witty man had been executed. He missed Viktor, he missed his palace, and he missed his people.
The prince sighed and rested his head against a moldy stack of hay. After five years, he had given up complaining about his surroundings. His hair was too long. It had grown to his lower-back and somewhere along the line had lost its shin. His form was too thin. He had gone from slender and fit to emaciated from lack of real nourishment. All he wanted now was to die. He knew he deserved whatever punishment came his way, but he couldn’t help but hate the gray-eyed king. Why make him suffer through this torment. Why not merely give him the justice of a swift death? He was ready for it.
The sound of footsteps echoed throughout the dungeons-- hollow and bleak. The Prince wondered if he had miscalculated. ‘I thought my execution was tomorrow,’ he thought to himself and closed his eyes. ‘Oh well. Whatever will be, will be.’ The earlier the better. He wanted this done and over with. He heard whispers in the background that sounded like one of the guards speaking to someone. As the husky man swung open Angel’s cell door, he jolted with fear, trembling from head to toe. Loud noises always managed to frighten him nowadays.
“Here he is, your majesty. A tad worse for wear but that can be remedied with a bath, a meal, and the right training. He will be a perfect servant in no time.” The man grumbled, catching Angel off guard. Servant? What did he mean servant. He struggled not to uiver or whine, averting his gaze from the cell door. He wouldn’t let them see his fear.

Many believed that he'd waited too long to execute the willful child that had ordered the death of his new wife. She had been a beloved princess and would have made a wonderfully kind Queen. And yet the orchestrator of his wife's murder lived for five years in the bowels of the castle. The child-prince--that was how Dorrien viewed Angel--survived for so long initially because he wanted to execute the others involved in his wife's death. Then he needed time to plan the execution that would bring closure to the tragic death. Each method was tested on those criminals that had taken part but none were quite that satisfying. It wasn't until this morning that he had thought of the perfect punishment for the boy. One that wouldn't end with an execution.
None of his advisors were pleased by his decision but they accepted it. It was highly cruel to those that knew his wife, but it would be satisfying for him at least. If not, then execution wouldn't be that far behind his displeasure. His children needed supervision as well, seeing as he had been alone in raising them for five years. Hopefully Angel wouldn't ruin them. Time would tell and when it did, the damage best not be irreparable.
Dorrien tilted his head to one side as he was lead down to where the prisoner was being kept. Five years and he hadn't bothered to once look upon the child. How much had the boy changed? Had he changed at all? Would the boy try for suicide once he lay out what the boy was to do? The thought twisted a cold smirk on his face for but a moment before disappearing when the jailer indicated that they were at the cell.
The small window in the cell revealed the King and the changes that happened in five years when he stepped into the stinking room. From the bright-eyed, brash young man that had all his happiness, the smiling mouth had become a thin line of disapproval, the eyes glittered still but with cruel promises rather than mischief, and his hand rested on a long sword, ready to use it at any time.
"We will see." He remarked, annoyed that his plans for the boy had already been leaked to his prisoner, even if it was only partly. He walked over to Angel slowly, looking him over. When he was standing over Angel, he chuckled darkly. "Can't look at me anymore? You'd better change that. We'll be seeing each other quite a bit from now on." A gloved hand reached down and tilted Angel's chin up, forcing the boy to look Dorrien in the eyes. A dark chuckle bubbled forth from the equally dark man. "Mm... That's right, Angel Wilkshire. You will not be executed tomorrow. Perhaps not even the day after that." Fingers squeezed Angel's jaw as Dorrien waited for the boy to come up with some reply.

The small boy trembled from head to toe as the powerful King tilted up his chin roughly. He was startled by the statement, of course, and also quite confused. The other was not going to execute him just yet? Perhaps he would be tortured before sweet freedom was offered to him in the form of a guillotine. Torture sounded quite plausible.
From what the guard had said it seemed his torture would be servitude—the biggest shame he could endure. He met those blazing eyes with his own weary blue orbs. “For five years I have waited for death. Inevitably, it will come in time. I will continue waiting because I have no other choice. To rush death and take my own life is a task I have no intention of undertaking. You deserve your revenge. When you decide to end my life is entirely up to you.”
There was only one man in the world who knew why he had murdered Fay and that man was probably dead. Most, including this King, did not know the true reasons for his actions. An evil plot to weaken the Kingdom with grief. An instigation of war. A grudge against her remarkable beauty.
These were all rumors that circulated. He had been on fairly friendly terms with the formerly-kind and gentle King before demanding the murder of the other’s bride. His advisor, the man forced to delegate the orders, had been the one person to know of his feelings. Despite the man’s frustrated pleas for Angel to see reason, there had been no stopping the spoiled boy.
He still remembered the last night of his freedom. The sharp-faced man had carried him silently to bed after one of the knights had burst in and announced the kingdom was under siege. He remembered trembling with fright as the other soothed him and tucked him into bed. He was offered no false hopes, only a small flask of liquid that would put him in a deep sleep when the King’s men found him and a gentle hand stroking his cheek gently.
‘Sleep, my Prince. Do not think of the world you will enter when you awaken. I wish I had poison to offer. This will have to do. I will stay by your side you under you fall into a slumber.’ The man had whispered. He remembered trembling and crying himself to sleep in the other’s arms.
Now, he could only regret the past. “If I might be so bold to ask, what is to be my fate, your highness?”

Dorrien smirked, amused. He wasn't trying to scare Angel and yet he had the boy quivering from head to toe. How nice. It was a little disappointing that the boy's eyes only looked tired. Not fearful, not even a spark of hope. Angel hadn't tried to escape in the five years locked up in the dungeon and now Dorrien was almost disappointed in him and his reactions. Didn't he want to live? Did he want to die? If that was the case, then the rest of Angel's life would be pure torture. Dorrien had no plans to kill him for a long, long time. Perhaps he could even discover exactly which of the rumoured intentions the prince had held when he ordered Fay's death.
Fay... Thoughts of her made him think of the time when the other's castle was taken. Then again, it was hard to forget how he'd found the boy when his army had swept over Angel's castle. He'd been there to face the man that had caused him such heartache. The army had made sure to block all the exits they could find before surging to the center to find the man. But finding Angel asleep... He had no idea what he ought to do, so he had the boy thrown in the dungeon. And now--only now after five years--was he seeing Angel again.
"You may be so bold. No one is stopping you..." He murmured, letting go of Angel's chin. "For causing the death of my wife you will become a servant in my castle. My personal servant. Your duties will be explained once you're less...filthy." Dorrien smirked as he stepped back. "I'll be with you the entire time so you don't need to worry about getting a knife in the back. I do have enough courtesy to let you know before I kill you."

A servant? The mere notion would appall anyone of noble blood. Death was, indeed, a preferred option. At least one could die with their head held high. However, he would not give the other the pleasure of his tears just yet. “I see,” he merely whispered, averting his eyes from those piercing orbs. “How considerate of you.” A small, subtle tinge of sarcasm laced his bitter tone. There was pure exhaustion flickering in those dull blue orbs.
A rough hand gripped his forearm and he was half-dragged out of the dungeon. That was fine with him. It seemed his legs were too shaky and unused to movement to get him around just yet. What followed was the most painful bath he had ever experienced. Tossed into a massive tub, a swarm of elderly maids began to wash him roughly. They scrubbed him until his dust-coated skin was once again a shade of porcelain and gummy limp hair almost back to its bright silky blonde. The washing was painful. However, it was a strange relief to feel clean again after five years.
Dressed in a servant’s uniform, Angel was simply relieved to be in clean clothing. The finest silks he had worn during the past held no comparison to the relief he felt when he was dressed in clean clothing, soft blonde hair slipped over on shoulder. The reflection of himself as depicted in the mirror was not the same as five years ago. His face was gaunter, his eyes were wearier, and there seemed to be a somber look to his expressions. When the King re-entered the room, all signs of relief vanished instantly. He would learn his duties now. Something deep inside told him he didn’t want to know. He averted his gaze to the ground, not wanting to meet the man’s eyes again.
"What happened to my Kingdom?" he asked softly, a shakiness to his voice. He wanted to know if everyone was massacred or if his innocent citizens had been spared. He wanted to know if the man had conquered his Kingdom and absorbed it, given someone else rule of the land, or simply salted the fields and left the rest for dead.

"More considerate than what was done to Fay." Dorrien murmured as he watched Angel be dragged away. He pulled himself out of his memories of his wife and forced a chuckle, shaking his head. It was almost cute, how the boy refused to break down. But that was what he was hoping for. Angel was going to repay him in what he would consider the worst way imaginable. Angel would take Fay's place in almost every way. Live the life she would have had if he hadn't robbed her of it. And also do other servant duties. The boy would only be his servant. Perhaps more a slave or a pet. Never would he amount to anything more than that. Dorrien needed a woman for his Queen. Still, what a sight it would be once Angel realized what his position was in the castle.
After a moment Dorrien walked out of the cell and strode in the direction that the prisoner was dragged. His expression was schooled into disinterest as Angel was stripped and washed. Part of him wanted to know what the boy looked like without the grime--five years and memories faded. Unfortunately he was interrupted and had to leave before they finished. He wanted to make sure that the boy was not compromised before tonight, but that would have to wait. Dorrien walked with one of his ministers and they discussed the points that had been overlooked during the council that morning. They spoke in hushed voices and, once it was done, another minister accosted him. Two more quiet discussions before he could go and find Angel again.
The boy was...clean. That much he could see. Underfed, but regular meals would see that it was remedied. Dorrien walked slowly, circling to see what still needed to be worked on. "Your Kingdom?" He repeated as he faced Angel full on, regal and a little amused. "Your Kingdom is now a province within mine. I allowed your nobles to remain but I had to change the certain things, behead any that refused to swear loyalty after the first insurrection. But your Kingdom is safe. Perhaps your continued existence has to do with its good behaviour." A shrug before he reached out and forced the other's head up. "Look into my face next time you speak to me. You will be punished if I have to force your eyes away from the ground again."

Fay. No, he had not been considerate to that poor, poor princess but there was nothing he could do about it now. Angel could only live out the rest of his days playing the role of a servant until the man was ready to kill him and avenge that woman. He was ready for death. He was ready for eternal rest after five years of solitude. The loneliness of the dungeon ate away at a person, deteriorating their mind and body. He could feel that strange madness nipping at his brain.
The fact that his Kingdom was okay made the beautiful prince sigh in relief. Any suffering they had undergone was his fault personally after putting them at risk for his own selfish deeds. He had exposed them to an unwinnable war. He could only hope that they could someday forgive his selfishness, though he doubted that would ever be the case.
When that large hand reached out and grasped his chin, Angel visibly flinched and jerked away. He did not appreciate being forced to meet those piercing eyes nor did he like the other’s rough nature. After five years, it was too much to take in. The man’s touch made his small body begin to tremble much to his disdain. “Dully noted,” he whispered, forcing himself to look the other in the eye. “I apologize. It’s been a while, your majesty.”
It was at that very moment he noticed a flash of ebony in his peripheral vision, making him turn his head towards the door and scrunch his brow in curiosity. A small head peaked into the room, catching him off guard, and piercing golden orbs peaked up at his own blue ones through thick lashes. The child was tiny; about five or six. He had heard something about the King and Fay having an infant son but had never though much of the tiny boy. Now, seeing him, the guilt settled in.
“Hello, little one. It’s all right. Don’t be afraid,” he whispered soothingly, trying not to frighten the child who kept looking at the King with wary, timid eyes before entering the room boldly and moving swiftly over to Angel. At first, he thought the boy was frightened of him but still curious enough to enter. However, he found that was not the case through further observation. The child seemed to be looking fearfully at his own father rather than the Prince, tugging on Angel’s sleeve for his complete attention.
“My name is Prince Armand,” the boy said softly with a hint of pride to his tone, eyes widening when Angel patted his head and said, “Nice to meet you, Armand. My name is Angel. I am… a new servant.” It seemed Armand wasn’t used to such gestures but he liked it enough to smile fleetingly before looking up at his father and bolting out the door.
He had lost his parents at a young age and because of him, this tiny boy had been robbed of a mother. “He is… a beautiful child.”

Was Angel scared of him now? Dorrien glared at the young man. He wasn't happy that the man was trembling because he touched him. Angel woud have to get used to his touch quickly. He wasn't going to let any of the duties he would have Angel do slide. He tilted Angel's head and let go when Angel turned to the door. He frowned when he saw who was at the door. Who let him come here?
Dorrien didn't say a word when his son entered. He hadn't been able to care for Armand in the five years that the boy mother had been dead. He stood silently as he watched Armand go over to Angel and introduce himself. Armand was the only person that could make him feel that he should have spent the last five years doing something other than trying to get revenge for Fay's death. He sighed at the fearful look on his son's face. He was never cruel or abusive towards the child and yet he still managed to scare him. Not something he was happy about. When Fay died, Armand lost both of his parents. In two very different ways, but he still didn't have a mother or a father.
Armand ran out under his gaze and, if Angel wasn't here, Dorrien would have sighed and closed his eyes, shaking his head. But he couldn't do that before the prisoner turned servant. "He is..." Dorrien agreed as he walked passed Angel. "He's also terrified of me." There wasn't any emotion as he state what anyone could very plainly see. He knew people thought it was cruel of him, to not care that his own son was terrified of him. Dorrien walked to the door and shut it. "Starting tomorrow you will be taking care of him. His caretakers have been letting him wander around the castle too freely." And the last thing Dorrien wanted was for Armand to witness an execution.
"Today you will not have to much. No cleaning but you will make sure to bring my dinner to my study and I will explain your last duty tonight." He tilted his head as he watched Angel. "You'll be fine with that, won't you?"

Angel blinked in surprise when he was told in such a blunt tone that the tiny boy was afraid of his father. However, he doubted the man truly did not care one way or the other. Those deep, weary eyes told him otherwise. It seemed the King’s quest for revenge had caused him to neglect the only piece of his bride she left behind. He was a tad taken aback to learn he would be the small boy’s caretaker. He did not mind the duty. The child seemed sweet enough and yearned parental guidance. He had stolen two parents from the poor child. The least he could do was fix his own mistake.
“Yes,” he answered when the other asked if he would be fine with his duties. He tilted his head slightly to the side and looked up at his new master. “You are an intimidating man, your majesty, but your son’s fear can easily be dissolved if you only show him a bit of time and affection each day. I am sure, despite his apprehension, that he still looks up to you and admires you.” His gaze left the King’s again, looking weary and tense.
Later that day, he found himself walking silently through the halls towards where he had been informed by one of the maids the kitchen was. As he was walking, he heard the soft pitter patter of footsteps trot behind him and paused to wait for the tiny boy to catch up. Dressed in his little nightgown with bloodshot eyes, the tiny prince truly was an adorable sight. “The old maid is chasing me,” the boy explained. “I don’t wanna sleep.”
Angel smiled weakly and scooped the small child into his gentle arms. “Shh. I will put you to bed, little one. The morning will come again soon and you will be able to play as much as you like.” He soothed, carrying the child in the direction the prince pointed his bedroom was. Smiling faintly when he saw the angry, scrambling maid, he shooed her out with a gentle gesture. The tiny prince, eyes softening with exhaustion, was playing idly with his long blonde hair as Angel lowered him onto the bed.
In the end, he was late arriving to the King’s chambers with the man’s dinner.

Grey eyes narrowed at Angel and his audacity to say anything that had to do with his and Armand's relationship. If Angel hadn't done what he had, Armand wouldn't be so scared. If Dorrien had paid a little more attention to his son, then maybe the boy wouldn't be so terrified either. He sighed and waved a hand, dismissing Angel. He didn't want to see him until dinner and after, when the last of his duties would be explained. Until then, there was work to be done.
A stack of papers were waiting for him when he arrived at his study. The King shook his head before he settled in to do the day's work when the day was already half over. This would be a challenge. He couldn't wait... Reading paper after paper and being bored out of his mind. Exactly how he wanted to spend the day. No one disturbed him as he worked, not even to ask if he would be organizing a feast for the court.
Dorrien had several reasons why he didn't have those ostentatious banquets that many other royals held in their courts--he didn't have the time. He'd spent the past five years plotting strategies, working on putting a new system of governing in Angel's former Kingdom and managing his and Angel's Kingdom separately until he could find a way to properly integrate the two countries into one--it was harder than it looked, especially when an entire country tried to resist. While he was their sovereign, they refused many of the changes he tried to introduce. He had no idea what he was getting into when he announced that Angel's Kingdom would be protected, but now he was dealing with a lot more than he ever expected. Attacks from other Kingdoms were being passed off as raids by bandits, testing to see if they could conquer while his attention was divided. So absorbed in work, he barely noticed that Angel was late until the man walked into the study and he looked up.
"I assume you have an explanation for your late arrival." He asked as he leaned back in his chair, setting down his pen and calmly waited for Angel to reply.

Angel nodded and placed the King’s dinner tray on an empty space on the table away from the important documents. “Armand was giving his maid a difficult time, running through the halls. I thought it best I put him to bed. He is sleeping soundly now. I apologize for my tardiness.” He whispered softly, eyes scanning the papers regarding his Kingdom. It seemed the place was fighting Dorrien tooth and nail. Both worry and warmth filled his chest when he saw the words on a single sheet of paper sent from his people: ‘Release our prince to safety and we will succumb.’
“After everything I’ve done to put them in jeopardy, they still speak on my behalf,” he whispered in shock. Their loyalty truly baffled him and made him feel all too guilty. What had he done? He severed his Kingdom for nothing. He shook the thoughts away and leaned back against one of the walls, looking weakly into those eyes. “You said you would give me the rest of my duties tonight.” He started with wary eyes. “Pray tell, what are they?”
His arms crossed self-consciously as he spoke and he averted his gaze from the King’s sharp piercing one. The man made him nervous and he was eager to leave the other’s bedroom. Whatever the extra tasks, he was sure he could handle them efficiently. The fallen prince was far too innocent to guess what the King had in store for him. After all, he was a virgin. His adviser had protected him from such indecencies, prompting that he always wait for a possible marriage union. The man had been aware of Angel’s preferences and had promised to find him a prince or King who would wed him. The boy had shaken it off at the time, rejecting all suitors.
He had fallen for Dorrien—the kind King that spoke to him so gently and treated him with the utmost kindness and affection. They had met numerous times over the years and developed a friendship before Angel had shattered everything when he learned of the King’s new bride and infant. Now, all of what came before his deceit was completely forgotten. He had destroyed it with his selfish jealousy.

Dorrien raised an eyebrow at Angel's reason for his tardiness. Armand was causing trouble for the maid? "Was he now..." The King murmured, tilting his head. He frowned when Angel read the missives from his Kingdom. He had to agree that the loyalty was baffling. They were supporting a man that had put his wife to death and then they dared to ask him to release Angel? What right did Angel have to live after killing Fay? He had been seriously considering cutting down every wife in Angel's former Kingdom after reading that. But Angel was not in danger to dying just yet. They ought to be satisfied with that.
There was, however, something else looming in the not to distant future that was a threat to the prince. Dorrien looked over Angel. Down in the cell, the boy had looked terrible. Now, not so much. Apart from looking weary, which was fine all things considered. Angel would do in taking Fay's place in his bed. Though Fay would hardly be subjected to what Dorrien had in mind for Angel. He set down the pen and stood up, walking over to Angel. And once again he was turning Angel's face back to him again. "Your final tasks will be performed in here, Angel." He replied coolly. "Specifically in bed."
Dorrien turned Angel around and proceeded to push the boy to the bedroom door. The bed had been prepared for tonight, made up as if they were newlyweds. But the items on the bed were not at all the sort of things that one would expect newlyweds to know how to use. "If you would strip, Angel, it will make things a lot easier."
