To Write Love On Her Arms Day

"To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

To Write Love On Her Arms Day is a day where anyone can write the words love on their arms, to support those who are fighting against depression and those who are trying to recovering. On this day, just write love on your arms, and show it off. Other people will ask why you have love written on your arms, and you tell them you are supporting to write love on her arms day, and how its benefiting a non-profit organization helping stop depression, and make love the movement."

This is a movement I've supported for a few years now, and I think it's important for those who don't know about it to learn about it, especially with all the stories of teenagers and young adults being bullied to suicide dominating the news lately.

A couple of my friends here on Gaia know my recent troubles with depression, but it goes farther than even they know. Last November, I spent days on end contemplating suicide, for a purely selfish reason. I ultimately managed to talk myself out of it, all the while never revealing a thing to anyone. There are some, though, who are not that strong, who never reveal their pain to anyone, and instead suffer through it to their breaking point. This movement, in short, is about letting those people know that there is still hope, still a future to look forward to, and that others can share their pain with them.

It's such a small thing to do, so simple, and yet can mean so much to anyone who crosses your path that day and happens to see love written on your arms.

Despite my position as a security officer and the appearance standards we have to meet, I'm going to do this, and I'm going to upload the pictures to their Facebook page, and even here on Gaia. I hope you will do the same, if humanly possible.

*hugs Adrian* Thank you for posting this.. I never knew such a support movement existed. I cried when I read this because I want more people to understand what people with depression go through. I want the stigma to be lifted, I want everyone to feel better... but it's hard. It's really hard, and it's even more painful if you don't have people in your life to support & help you. Or, if you do, but they're hurtful bastards.

I'll probably have nowhere to be that day..but I should write it on my arms anyway..I should tell my boyfriend to do the same.. I wish he were home right now...I could really use a hug right now.

Sounds interesting. I have a bit of depression myself, though I hate the idea of suicide.

I am going to do this. I have struggled with depression for quite some time. Even though I'm in recovery, the days I was hospitalized on suicide watch were some of the worst I had in my life.

Depression is no little case of the blues. I know the difference. I can shake off a case of the blues. Depression is different.

Depression is an underlying sense of gloom and blah in your life which makes the very parts of your body too heavy for your body to bear. You do not care how you look. You might not even bathe, shower, or even get dressed. Your have no interest in the things that bring you pleasure. For instance, I was involved with theater at the time, but I hated doing theater. It overwhelms you and makes every ache that much more hurtful.

You even think about dying. Either you want to stop the pain, get revenge on someone or something, or even actually want to die. Many people even end up completing this final surrender to depression.

But...if you are caught into a net of love and support, you can recover. The gloom can lift.
