Nullah needed to get away from his sister for awhile, but it was hard, being that she was, well, his sister. Fortunately now that they were older she'd found some new hobbies, other than bugging him. Unfortunately, that meant he was left alone, unless he wanted to hang out with his other family, but, well...
that wasn't much better.
He needed some new friends, but he was stuck in the Tomkin packlands. But there were definitely more wolves his age here, right? He just had to meet them, and hope they were friendly.

Tuilinn was, well, bored.
And that was lightly putting it. The adolescent often found herself left to her own devices, now that she was a little bit older. She was also that much determine to prove herself as a strong and assertive member of the assassins pack. She needed an outlet for much of her energy and often times had a hard time deciding exactly what she wanted to do. It was this that led to her making her own entertainment along the outskirts of the pack, where she hoped the prying eyes of her family wouldn't be too judgmental. A wolf had to learn, after all, and she wanted to hunt. She was still young and hadn't exactly been trained in the art, but it didn't prevent her from practicing whenever an opportunity arose.
Like right now.
The rabbit she was eyeballing was young, as well, and she hoped it was equally inexperienced.

Nullah wasn't much used to hunting. He could do it, but he came from a big family and a bigger pack, and a father who was only good at teaching by example -- and Nullah wasn't always observant. His siblings always shared and he'd never had reason to learn the art that well.
He didn't recognize that the female was stalking prey, only that she was on Tomkin land and his age. So he set off through the grass to see her, blithely startling the rabbit into flight.
"Hey!" he barked cheerfully. "What are you doing out here?"

The rabbit was there... And suddenly not. She watched it's fluffy little rear disappear beneath the roots of nearby shrubbery. Her sharp, blue eyes narrowed and a growl rumbled in her throat. She didn't even have a chance to chase the damned thing, let alone kill it. She rounded quickly on the fellow that had interrupted her mediocre attempt at a hunt and frowned at the other pup. She didn't know him, but she recognized him vaguely. He had to be of Tomkin, as well.
"I was hunting, but you scared off my rabbit, thickskull." She snorted, though she made no move to chastise him physically.

Nullah's ears plastered back against his head so hard that it looked like the stripes were only markings on his neck. Only a minute into the conversation and already he'd screwed up... he really was just a thickhead.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he said, and then said it some more, in case that one wasn't good enough. "I'm really, really sorry, I didn't know you had a rabbit. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare it off." He peered around the surrounding area, trying to see if there was a way to rectify the situation. "Maybe... maybe we can find something else?"

She looked as though she was going to complain, soundly, again. She hesitated, however, and merely grunted. He seemed rather, well, submissive. Wouldn't be worth it to waste too much energy on heckling him, especially because she was hungry and still hadn't caught anything. Instead, she cocked her head slightly, trying to remember a name or a sibling, or something. So far, no luck.
"Quit apologizing so much and fix it. You any food at tracking...? What's your name? I'm Tuilinn, daughter of Schatze and Stryder."

He whined, really wanting to fix it but not liking being yelled at about it.
"I'm Nullah," he said, just the very tip of his tail wagging earnestly. He recognized her parents' names as others in the pack, but that was about it. "Um, my da is Drover and my ma is Nanaka." He didn't know if that would carry any kind of weight, since they'd only joined a bit before he was born.
"I'm not... well, I can do some tracking..." he said, not wanting to look like too much of a failure but also knowing it was dangerous to over-commit.

Tuilinn flicked an ear as she waited for an answer. Their names meant little to her, but she was still young and did not know all the members well. But if he could track, well, then maybe she would have something to eat that afternoon, which would put her in a bit better of a mood. She bobbed her head after he spoke.
"Nullah. Alright, well, if you can track and stay quiet, I'll kill whatever we find. And then... We'll split the spoils, since you helped. How's that sound?"

Ohh, dear, now she thought he could track. But, she seemed friendly now that she knew that, so he wasn't going to dissuade her; he didn't want to be yelled at again. Besides, how hard could it be? All he had to do was find an animal, and then she would kill it, and then he got a free meal. There were animals everywhere in the territory!
"Yeah, okay," his tail started to wag with ease. "I can be quiet! I'll find something." The more he said it to himself, he more he believed it.
He sniffed the air and then set his nose to the ground the way he sometimes saw his father, and started to pace this way and that. He didn't sense anything just then, but he could at least look convincing until he did.

"Good, 'cos it's no good if a wolf can't contribute to the pack." She snorted, but her demeanor was a little calmer. If he could be useful, she wouldn't complain too much. Of course, she was about the same age as he, so she didn't have that much room to talk... Not that she was going to admit to that. She watched as he sniffed the air and paced. She, too, scented the air to see if she could catch a wiff.

He was a good wolf! He could contribute! He absolutely knew he had to, because otherwise he wouldn't belong in the pack, and he didn't know what he would do if he were all on his own. Even if they didn't like him he needed to be around other wolves.
He was getting a little uneasy, that he wouldn't be able to find something. "Um..." he started, then lowered his voice, remembering he was supposed to be quiet. "I think I smell something... over there." He took off toward a stand of birches, hoping his chances would be better there.

She winced slightly at his verbal filler, worried that it might frighten off any prey that may be near, regardless of how slim the chance might be. Her irked expression evaporated as he lowered his voice and she nodded, grinning. Food there, that was good! Hopefully his nose led them true. She shifted slowly in that direction, her nose diligently searching for some trace of something. Given the dense populations within the forest, there had to be something!

He convinced himself that there was food in the stand, and his confidence returned a bit. Luckily for him, there was potential food -- a pheasant mother and four nearly-fledged chicks had taken refuge there. Nullah wasn't familiar with pheasants, or their size, or how they could bite the tip of a nose off a wolf. He just knew they smelled of meat.
"Oh, here!" he said, trying to be quiet, but the pheasant, used to fleeing wolves, certainly heard. She flared her wings and rose a cloud of dust, startling the adolescent.

They were in luck!
She, too, was unfamiliar with pheasants. Thus, being unfamiliar with them, she had the youthful eagerness and a lack of fear that others might call almost ignorant. Her dark nose practically wiggled as she inhaled the delicious smell of tender pheasant. Eager, she slowly tiptoed towards the underbrush that the younglings and their mother took shelter beneath, flinching as the other spoke again. At the same moment the pheasant flared her wings, the dark brown adolescent lunged at her.
