Hassan announcing his DQIII LP reminded me of something.
It was not in the original version of III I believe, but all remakes include a personality system that affects the way characters gain stats when they level up. There are numerous personality types, and you can change a character's personality by reading books that you find all over the world.
But in the beginning of the game, the hero is given a default personality based on a questionnaire that is given to you in the form of a dream. It takes the form of several questions, ending with a scenario in which a variety of outcomes are possible.
I think I stated a while back that I had started replaying my copy of III. When I took the test, I found that it was not only scarily accurate, but also that it was quite a different answer then when I took it at age 9. I thought that was interesting. The answers are usually quite biting, actually. Goods and bads.
I had two of my friends take it as well. What was really interesting was that they both got the same ending scenario, but they came out from it differently. And both were pretty accurate. There are a limited amount of types, and they had to make them all different, so it can't always be accurate.
So tell me. What has the game called you? Did you think it was accurate? Did you like it? Or did you think it was trite?

Oh yes, I remember this, I also found it rather accurate. I remember I got the rock scenario and I didn't want to do it (wanted to get straight into the game) and I got the "Lazy" personality. Now, it may sound like I'm paranoid/superstitious, but the real life me is quite the sloth, I am known for my procrastination abilities, getting things done as soon as I can just to get over with it and other traits to further my laziness. This was a few years ago, I wonder which scene I'm going to get this time?

I actually took it again right after I made this thread. I always take it completely honestly (though certain scenarios rely on not knowing how to go through them, like the monster and the rock scenarios. Though I never have gotten either of those).
When I was a wee 9-year-old, I believe I got the "Macho" personality. I don't remember the details. But when I started my new game least winter, I got the "kindly" personality, which fit me like a glove. Out of curiosity, I did it again shortly after and was given a different set of questions. That one gave me the "lonely" personality, which was.... depressingly accurate as well. When I took it this afternoon, I got "kindly" again.

Getting started on my LP, I made sure to take it honestly and I got the King scene, never getting it before I handled it exactly the same way I would I'd I was actually in the game the results surprised me: I got the "joker" personality. Now most people know, I have one Hell of a sense of humour, but what the voice said shocked me "your jokes will become old in time and you'll wish you were young again." D: then my computer went boom again so now I am left to stew in his words. I guess the truth ain't always easy, eh? But I'm happy I have my sense of humour, not everyone can find humour in serious issues as easily as I do.

... A friend of mine has put me through this test several times over the course of knowing her.
When I first took it, I was called vain in my opinions. Then I kind of had an epiphany halfway through the semester and tried to not suck as much.
Then it called me naive and idealistic. This is likely because I am a huge paladin-sort with strong ideals.
Now it called me an arrogant bully.
And it is so right.
*whack whack whack*
Why is this game so good at telling my exactly how I suck at any given moment in time?

I always find it interesting when people get the same scenario, but a different personality. Hassan, was the one you got the scenario with the scheming Queen and the King who is sending his soldiers off to war? That's the one that I get much more frequently then all the others. And that's where "Kindly" comes from.
I have two friends. One of them is Miss Marcello up there, and the other is a nice, yet extremely closed-minded dorkburger. Both of them got the rock scenario, which was surprising to me, because prior to that I had never seen that one. Marcello got the "Vain" personality, and the dorkburger got "Lazy." The dorkburger in question refused to believe it since he got plenty of physical activity. However, the description was much, much more suited to how closed minded he was and how he never puts effort into understanding anything that doesn't directly benefit him, content to sit in his room until he rots.
I guess it operates in fortune-telling logic, where the descriptions are just vague enough to fill in the blanks yourself, but from what I've seen in people taking them, the descriptions really ring true. Probably because of the sorting method that takes place before the outcome is determined.
I love you, Enix.

Marcello- it's great to see others than just me and Roto take this seriously, I know when my Dad did this scene, he just passed it off as "an electronic fortune cookie", but I find truth in the game's beginning scene, it's vague enough to make people feel like they "suck" at any given scene as Roto said. xD
Roto- that would be the one! Although there is a translation error being my speculation as the Chancellor seems to loop his questions when I answered him, and when I talked to the King, I was under the impression that "no meant yes" as he thanked me when I said no to helping him. D: Before that, I only got the rock scene and no way was I going to push that rock to the man 50 times (hence- the Lazy personality..)

I represent all...WELL GOD DAMN YOU OVERLORD!
This b*****d said I was selfish, all because I took a wrong turn. THAT IS NOT ME!
But away from this point, man I love this game. It has been so long since I played it, and it brings memories back. One of them being that this was a childhood game of mine. As soon as I hit that moment at the waterfall I knew...this was the game I used to play that was Dragon Quest.

I'm so happy I chose a winner for you to play! And you aren't the first one to be insulted by the test. As I said, some other people I've seen threw a fit over it. For a while when I brought up any DQ game to the friend the game called "lazy," he would ask "Is that the one that insulted me?"

But DQIII nostalgia is the best. I can remember that I enjoyed the game, and would continue to take the personality quiz because it made me laugh sometimes, or throw a fit. I was a little kid, what did you expect?

I meant to post on this earlier (holy cripes, Erdrick's sub-forum needs more forum posts! D: ), but when I was a kid (like five years ago, late gamer, FTW), I sadly didn't have the luxury of a personality test as the original Warrior didn't have it (and it had the same sprite for male and female hero/ine silly enough), it wasn't until I played the SFC remake when I got to take it as sadly, I wasn't much of a GBC gamer, so I missed out on the localized DWIII remake.

Now I wish I would have screencapped my original answers to the 'test" at the beginning that tells me about my personality. I know that it was shockingly right, and that I fell for the treasure trap because I'm like "Ooo, ADVENTURE! =D And on the way there I'll snatch a trea- WHA? A Trap door!? gonk "

A Trap door!? gonk " Now you know where this thread's poll comes from. :B That's actually the answer I'm the most questioning of out of all of them. There are those who would go for the gold because of easily distracted or whatever, then there are those who would go for the gold because they play RPGs and are used to looting everything. I only found out about it when I was fooling around with the questionnaire one day a while back. I never get the cave scenario. It's always Kings and Queens, or Towers. There seems to be a lack of towers in the responses you guys are getting. And Sue! Are you playing DQIII too? Coolest beans!

I never get the cool ones, and pushing a bolder to an old man 50 times for rad stats isn't cool at all. : (
I want to get the monster scenario where you have to press certain buttons to not burn the villagers, it sounds like fun. ;P

Anyway I do need to get back to this one.
