Victoria walked into the grooms’ room after hearing, from her least favorite female acquaintance, that her husband-to-be was having company. Privately. She walked down the hall in her wedding dress, of which was made just for her, and marched right into the room. She slammed the door open and found her best friend necking with Joseph. She didn’t know what to say to them both that expressed the feelings that she felt. Samantha had been her friend since childhood. She had shared everything with her, had even asked if she should marry Joseph. Now she understood Samantha’s reasoning. Victoria threw her ring at them after standing in the door way watching them squirm, desperate to right their clothing. Not knowing what to say to them, Victoria turned on her heal and slammed the door on her way out. Tears ran down her cheeks, her mascara running with them. Victoria pulled her vale off of her head and took her hair down, leaving a trail of pearl hair pins behind her. The dress was long and had a foot long train behind her. She stomped into the chapel and looked at all the family and friends waiting to see a wedding. “It’s all off! Go home!” she yelled out at them. Startled, the people looked behind them at her. Not wanting to be looked at like that, she turned and left the room. Victoria was called from behind her, it was her stepmother. “Vic, wait please! Vic! Wait!” she caught up to Victoria and stopped her. “Look at me, Vic. What happened?” she asked her while pulling a strand of heavily hair sprayed hair away from her face. Victoria didn’t want to explain it to her. “Go ask Joseph and Samantha!” Victoria told her stepmother. She tore away from her grip and picked up her train over one arm and ran out of the church. By now Victoria was sobbing and stumbling blindly through the church’s graveyard. Her light brown hair was free and bouncing around her as she ran. Victoria didn’t think of where she was going and didn’t care. The new cemetery met the old. The headstones were worn and cracked; on some you couldn’t even read the names. Victoria stopped and collapsed in the grass under an oak tree that was very old. “It’s not fair! It’s not fair! I loved you and you betrayed me! How could you?” Victoria paused for a few seconds, her crying ever whelming her ability to voice her anger. Tears poured down her cheeks and fell on to the grass under. “I never would have done that to you! Samantha was my best friend and you were eating her as if she were your last meal! I hate you both!” Victoria cried until the few hours to dark. She was sitting on a stone bench and sniffling a little when the sun finally set, using the hem of her now ruined dress to dry the tears on her cheeks and her eyes. Victoria held back another sob as the sight of those two played back in her mind once again. She hit the stone with the palm of her hand and tears seeped past her tightly closed eye lids. “It can’t be fair.” She whispered. “What can’t be fair, lady?” A low and smooth voice came from behind Victoria. She snapped her head around and saw a man standing there. He was tall, lean, and had black hair. He wore a long dark colored coat and boots. He had a white shirt under the coat and dark dress pants. She watched him as he came around and stood next to her at a respectable distance. “Who are you?” she asked him. The man smiled slightly then bowed low to her.

“Pardon my rudeness, my name is Alexander. I was just passing by when I came across you crying. What would make a bride come way out here and cry on her wedding day?” he asked her. She was mesmerized by his voice. It was soothing and comforting. “I was to be married today, but my would be husband was shoving his tongue down my best friends’ throat. I found out and ran out here. I just don’t understand why it is that I have never had my trust, loyalty, and love returned? It’s not fair!” she burst into tears again and this time she let it all out. The man waited by her side patiently for her to calm down. He walked up to her and knelt down in front of her. Victoria cleared her tears away with the back of her hand and looked at him sniffling. “I do not know these men, but I do know that no one disserves what you have been given. What is your name?” he asked her. “Victoria, Vic for short. Why do you care? About what happens to me, that is.” She let a small frown furrow her brow as she watched him. He watched her in return, saying nothing. There was something in his eyes that made her feel light. Like something was deep inside that wanted out. “May I sit next to you Victoria?” he asked her as he rose from the ground. She nodded and made room for him on the bench. It was a small bench, but she didn’t mind a little physical contact right now. He sat next to her and she could feel the power in his body for a brief moment. He looked at her with his dark eyes. “I care about you and what has happened because you are a woman. No matter how strong you put your self up to be, you are still fragile. Like a rose. A rose has many thorns to p***k your finger, but they need care and their flowers are soft. Easy to fall apart if you’re not careful and handle them with gentle hands. If you do so, your actions are rewarded with their beauty and sent.” He looked back at her. “Wow.” Victoria was amazed at what he said. She looked down at her hands, almost feeling embarrassed at his words and the look in his eyes. “You’re very smart. May I ask you what you do for a living?” She wasn’t sure why she said that. “I have investments around the world, I trade stocks and land. I even write sometimes, but it is more a hobby than a living.” He smiled at her with soft humor. “What about you? What do you do for a living?” he finally asked after the pause. She looked up at the stars that were beginning to shine, watching them wink at her from their far off worlds. A sad smile and a hiccup of a laugh came from her sigh before looked back down at her hands. “I’m a painter. Well, I like to think I am. I also like to watch the night sky. I even take kids out and teach them the stars in the sky.” Victoria took in a deep breath before continuing. “So what kinds of books do you write? I might have read one of them.” She told him. “I don’t think you would have. I haven’t written one since, er, well for a long time. So tell me more about yourself.” He asked her. Victoria only smiled. “Well, it might put you to sleep. I really don’t have much to tell.” She warned him. “Try me.” He told her with a slight grin. “Well, I was born here. My mother died when I was five of pneumonia. My father remarried and we moved out south when I was ten.” Victoria told her life story to this man and he listened to her with his full attention. When she was done it was getting late, but she didn’t want to go just yet. “That is one hard life Victoria. I wouldn’t have stood for those men who treated you that way. Victoria, would you permit me to walk with you for a short time?” he

asked her. Victoria thought about all those warnings about walking with strangers that were pounded into her at a young age. But she ignored them and nodded. She needed to get back, and not knowing the way out, it was nice to have someone with her. They left the bench and walked in the direction of the way she ran in from. With her train over her left arm and Alexander on her right and leading her through the graveyard. She stumbled on a loose stone on the path. Alexander caught her, causing her to run into him. With her train dropped and both hands on his chest in front of her, his arms around her keeping her steady, Victoria looked up and met his eyes. “I’m sorry, I’m such a klutz.” She whispered. Alexander bent down and kissed her on the lips. It was so gentle and yet demanding. He brought her up closer to him and kissed her harder. Victoria got over the shock real fast. She kissed him back, slipping her arms around his neck. Then she felt his tongue licking her lips. She opened her mouth and let him inside. It was the best kiss she had ever had. She could feel something in him that was stirring. The same something that was stirring in his eyes she had caught a glimpse of earlier. He took the straps of her dress off of her shoulders and the dress slipped down a little, the weight of her dress hanging on her bodice under the dress. It was supposed to be a surprise for Joseph once they were alone. So much for that. He moved from her mouth to her neck and down to her shoulder. Victoria’s skin was on fire, every little caress from Alexander sent a shock wave to her head and down her spine. She couldn’t seem to catch her breath. He undid the hook of her dress and slipped the zipper down far enough to expose her breasts. He kissed them too, she moaned and leaned back. He held her in place and kissed her. Her mind was saying that this was not right, that she shouldn’t be doing this. But her body was screaming that it the most right thing that had ever happened in her life. He nipped at her skin with his teeth causing her to harden, the skin on her breasts tightened. The night breeze picked up and she shivered. “Victoria?” he asked her between kisses from between her breasts. “Ahh, hm?” Her eyes closed and breathless, she barely was able to answer him. “Will you spend eternity with me? Will you live with me forever?” he asked her. Victoria looked up at him and kissed him. “Yes, oh yes.” Victoria heard in the distance behind her someone calling her name. She didn’t care. Alexander moved from her mouth again to her neck. He licked her neck and she moved her head to the other side, exposing her neck for him, her hair falling over to the side. She knew what he was, and she welcomed him. The person calling her name was closer now. The voice rang out, annoying her. Victoria moaned out her irritation, making her feelings known about that voice. Alexander bit into her neck with sharp fangs. She could feel them slide in with ease and little pain. She felt her blood run down the side of her neck. The voice was closer and seemed to boom in her ears. Who ever was calling her was going to see them soon. Victoria felt her heart slow down and her body became so light. He pulled on her, drawing out the blood from her neck. She could feel it leaving her body. A sense of her mind feeling light, but her body was so heavy. Her eyes now open, looking up at the blurry sky. The thought of dyeing never crossed her mind, she just felt so tired. Finally he pulled away and licked her throat again. Her blood was still running out, but slowly. He set her down in his arms, one around her shoulders as his leg supported her back. She watched him bring his wrist to his mouth and bite into it. Blood welled up and out the corners of his mouth from the wound. He brought it to her mouth, drops of his blood

spilled over her lips and run into her mouth. She took his blood, his wrist into her mouth. “Vic! Vic! Where are you, Vic! Come on, I said I’m sorry.” A male voice rang out, sounding desperate, exasperated, and irritated. “Come out, I know you’re here! Vic!” It was Joseph. He was looking for her. But she didn’t care anymore. “Hay you! What are you doing to Victoria?” He saw Victoria with blood on her neck, still running down around and dripping onto the moss covered stepping stones where a man with his wrist to her mouth and her hands around his wrist was holding it there. Alexander looked up and saw Joseph and Joseph saw the blood colored eyes. Joseph took a step back, then another, then turned and ran for it. When Victoria let go of Alex, she was so sleepy but feeling her body seemingly lighter, her head was swimming. Alex picked her up, and walked away from the church. Victoria was asleep. Alex watched her as she slept in his arms. Her bleeding stopped and her breathing slowed to match his. He brought her to his estate in the forest ten miles from the church. The servant who opened the door was expecting him, but was surprised to see Victoria. Alex brought her up to his room and put her in his king four-poster bed. He had taken off the dress and placed her in the covers with only her under things. He sat next to her, watching her sleep. He was very happy to have found her. It had seemed to be fate. “Victoria.” He said her name out loud and she turned over to face him without waking. She was so beautiful. She had fit his body perfectly; she tasted like honey and roses. “Sir, is there anything else you need?” the servant asked him. “No, Stien. That will be all for tonight. In the morning will you hire a maid for Victoria? One that will meet our needs?” he told the servant without taking his eyes off of her. “As you wish. Anything else, Sir?” “Also have someone buy her clothes to wear until she can have her things brought here. She’s going to be here for a very long time.” He looked at Mr. Stien and smiled at him. “I need a bath.” He said as he thought of his clothes. His wrist was totally healed now, but there was still blood and a little dirt on him. The servant bowed and left the room. He looked at Victoria again before leaving to take his shower and put on fresh clothing. He still had a lot of work to do tonight. Tomorrow morning will be eventful. Alexander smiled to himself as he knelt back down at the dead side. The blood had begun to dry on her neck. She wouldn’t wake up for hours more. Taking advantage of it, he took it upon himself to clean her neck up with his tongue. Her hair smelt of heavy spray and chemicals. He was half tempted to take her with him to wash her up, but when she finds out she could very well become angry with him. He didn’t want to do that, just yet. Regrettably, he pulled away from her and headed for the master bathroom to take that shower.
