Btw, you can get Mew right now. (HG/SS)

Boot up HG/SS and at the start menu go to "Mystery Gift" and "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection" option and Mew will be sent to a guy at a Pokemart. Clear a space in your party and he'll give Mew to you.
