“She seems a pretty sharp beast at least. When Zhask was growing she was so mellow to everything and everyone I thought her brains were addled a bit. She took well to commands though, and was agile and clever enough at exercise that I stopped worrying.”
Zhac rose with a grunt for the stiffness in his knees. “Think I’m not the one that needs a little exercise. I think I’ve been going soft here in the weyr since working in the mines.” He grimaced and pressed his hand into his side, leaning and stretching a complaining muscle.

Erie grunted when she tried to stand, after kneeling so long one of her legs had gone a little numb and she had almost fallen over. "Sharding plants, they had better be worth this effort" she grumbled, "That's good then, at least she wasn't addled, for a Queen, the wouldn't have been good, she'd certainly have not been allowed to clutch surviving eggs" she said flatly, whether she meant to sound unfeeling ... was debatable, but she held no true ill will towards the Gold's handler.
"you used to work in the mines?" she asked with a wry smile "there's no 'soft' when it comes to Whers Zhac" she said, very slightly chuckling. "Well .. the plants are in the soil, and we've done what we can. We can only hope they'll live... anyway my next shift is about to start, better not keep Erisk from her job" she said, having to almost drag the green away from the Gold "Seems these two had fun conversing" she said with the barest of smirks. "Come on grumpy green butt, back to work" to the wher, her tone was blatantly loving.

Zhac nodded in silent agreement to her rather cold phrasing. Luckily he’d sorted out his wher’s behavior before she’d gone on her first Run, but while the little gold had been growing he’d been told to expect having to smash her eggs to prevent clutches malign to the breed.
“Thanks for the help, and good luck.” He gave a nod to Erie as she went to wrest the green away from Zhask. He whistled his own beast over (much to her reluctance) and started loading the tools back into her harness. Maybe the sharding plants would grow. He climbed onto Zhack’s back and gave a sigh for the hopes of the weyr as his wher started back for their quarters.
