bandgeekus shorticus As gross as this sounds, we are trained to take one deep breathe in, suck in all the spit, and swallow :/ its absolutely disgusting when you say it but in reality its just pure water thats been condensing, and when you got one shot to please the judges, sometimes swallowing the spit is your only option. I've been there, done that. That is exactly what I do, except there may be times that the spit just runs down my mouth... Oh well. rofl

-cuppycake luff- selkie_chick i usually have spit right before the impact in the ballad, but i don't know when to empty my spit valve when there are ia judges walking around on the field??? I wish I knew, cause halfway through my show I've got spit running down my chin and my shirt. Hah.. I'm so sorry, I hate it when that happens.

Lord Yujinma Psh. Try playing at Carrier Dome. They have an unbelieveably high box. Empty your spit when the guard does something distractiong and you don't have your horn up. What do you play anyways? It kinda helps. I play mello, so I have a nice huge bell razz

If there is a time between songs when you end facing backfield, empty your spit valves then. Do it real subtle-like, and I have been told that you don't lose points for doing it because it's part of your instrument ( also because you don't lose points in competition, you can only gain points).

Yeah F.Y.I, Valve Oil is toxic (lethal) to humans. It burns if it gets in contact with your skin, kills you if swallowed, and is very harmful when inhaled.

Not all valve oils are toxic, and clearly im still alive.

Oh well. rofl The reason it does that is because your valves are full and the condensed water is coming back down the tubing. Your valves also fill up quicker when it's raining.

Well we start the show back field, but otherwise it's front facing, or we face the person in front of us doing a follow the leader...

Great General Wallace you spit right when the judge is directly in front of you so that you get them soaked. at least that's what i would do. That is my goal this season lol, I accumulate enough spit during a show that a could like soak a judges leg. It's a problem my spit, I think some of the pictures on the TOB website have me emptying my spit valve.

main point swallow your spit that what every brass player is told to do in my band and just because it tastes like it doesn't mean that its in it.
