I saw a shooting star before competition freshman year! It was so cool! :]
Usually the clarinets do the Hokey Pokey. Flutes, I've been trying to get some good traditions going. We do a cheer before each comp now, and I give them all lemon cookies the day of competition (they go along with the band tradition of lemon heads before each comp... "suck now so we don't suck later!")

At our competition yesterday- we were in our stretching circle before doing visual warm-up, and decided to make a massaging circle...some of our staff decided to get in on it, too. xd

And tot hink i thought my band was the only one to do massage circles. Except we do them after productive rehearsals or during band camp, not before performances.
We dn't do anythgn fun before performances. its all business. Although i remeber on the way to state my freshman year someone brought a tube of cookie dough and shared with the entire bus.

The Pit have traditional treats before each performance, each game is different, and each one has a saying. example: we each get a sugar packet and eat it like a shot, "eat something sweet now for a sweet performance later"

My band likes to do massage circles whenever but we did one before BOA. Also, I like to listen to Daylight by Matt and Kim on the bus rige up. I used to do this with a senior last year and it gets my mood up. Recently I've been listening to Michael Buble's Hollywood too. In drumline the instructors like to give us a hug and then I usually remind everyone about their shoelaces. =) baha

Before our performances, my bus in marching band would have to sing all of Bohemian Rhapsody.
My section would dig out one guy's iPod and speakers and listen to Blue Oyster Cult, and all the other epic classic rock legends.

Well there are two rituals we have for each competition. In the last fiveminutes of the drive we all sing Misery Business. Then right before we go on, we have one of out older players do an ancient concentration thingie on us to get us pumped. On days it is raining the snare drums and tenors take out "lucky shot" from the rain water of our drums right before we go on.

We all get hugs from our Dm's and we are all forced not to look at the band performing. We also get water. Our homeshow was weird. They were these tiny little bowls of water. I drank it and it got dry as if it never had water in it. On Dome day Championships when we get within 10miles of skytop we all have to shutup and focus. After we leave skytop, we have to sing our music parts. High D ona trumpet lmao.

They call me a band geek...@Lord Yujinma: Are you from New York? biggrin My band goes to Skytop, too! biggrin haha, just wondering ^-^
And this year, before our homeshow, my section all knelt down and held hands, and "prayed." And before every show, the directors let us all get together with our sections and get everyone pumped. The past two years we had Jimm (the oldest tsax, one of my best friends) give an awesome, and hilarious, speech, and it pumped everyone up. And the drum majors always go around and knuckle touch everyone! [: And I'm proud to say I am.
